I think most people just keep the bowl full out of convenience, rather than sticking to a schedule and measured amounts. A lot of kibble is the animal equivalent of McDonald's as well, and you wouldn't know it unless you're checking the nutrition labels. It's actually possible for pets to develop diabetes from kibble alone, depending on its nutritional value and how much they can freely eat.

It's definitely more work and more expensive, but it's still important to diet and track nutrition for your little dudes just like you do for yourself!

budget wet dog food (aka a real, but low quality meat product) can do it if you allow the cat to eat as much as it can for extended periods.
