He definitely hallucinates, but I think what he might be trying to imply is that if they get more RAM in the data centers it'll be easier to get more RAM for people and lower the over all cost? Which because of capitalism is obvious bullshit. But also, this is the guy that said AI will bring about the end of the world, so I suspect he wants more RAM to speed up that process.
LLMs have the basic decency to admit they were wrong when corrected. That places their humanity level above that of CEOs.

I am new, so be gentle? But is any part of his sentiment correct? From a societal change and/or national security for AGI development perspective the more RAM/data centers the quicker he achieves these goals which in his mind will up end computing and the human relation to computing. While yes I want to game, program, and use my own internet machine the faster we reach the tipping point he has envisioned the sooner none of that will matter.
The question is whether that goal is achievable. And the reason he has been lambasted is because most folks who k ow what's what, do not think it is nearly as easy or achievable as he does.
Sam Altman is a notorious liar, his job is to get the press to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt, but not in the usual way - aimed at competitors - but his own company. Because uuuh, big scary AI very powerful, very smart, very super, wouldn't want to be left in the dust, buy now!
The RAM comment he made doesn't actually help with that though, it just pissed people off because the AI hype has caused prices to shoot up and stay up. It's the head of a private company sounding incredibly entitled and tone-deaf. So now he tries to backpedal, probably also because there's real resistance to data center plans.
I think the hype bubble jumped the shark when he announced that he believes that we're already in the age of AGI. We are so clearly not that you'd think that even the dumbest investor would start asking questions. Maybe they'll notice that actual researchers are calling him out on his bullshit too. We are still in the "AI sends you to the gas station on foot because gas is expensive" era and won't be leaving it with the current tech.
Why would society allow or help this psychopath achieve his stupid goals? I want a Disneyland in my backyard, that goal is achievable, I deserve everyone's money.

Surely the best and most secure system is one with multiple levels of redundancy? Spreading RAM over a large area means that there is no one single point of failure / single target to attack. Everyone having their own AI would be the best end goal (assuming the technology ever actually starts to provide dividends).
i don't think it's worth making our present worse as it is now for a hypothetical future utopia, even if the chances were quite high (they're not).
People and the environment are suffering now because of big tech's incessant rush for an AI singularity, expensive ram is only a small thing on a huge pile of grievances.
Why would RAM suddenly be less or even irrelevant when we would actually have AGO?
I think in the mind of the tech bros there is this utopia where AGI would/could fix ALL problems.
You would then prompt AGI-GPT: "Hey we are low on RAM, please fix. No mistakes". Immediately the AIs big brain would find a solution; hordes of autonomous robots swarm out and start working to build factories, mine resources, ~~enslave humanity~~ , build infrastructure...
