I think the movie is good, but about as corny as the original post here but on the other hand if you manage to exit the idea of cars as status symbols and/or, if feasible, that every adult in a household needs one you do tend to save absolutely stupid amounts of money. I'll not pretend this solves every problem about affordability that faces much of everyone today but good god car brain overwrites large parts of peoples fiscal sense

Unpopular opinion: macroeconomically, "need" is tricky as a bar for purchase decisions. In our pretty-efficient and specialized system people make way more stuff than is needed, and often stuff that isn't "needed" in exchange for their salary which goes to food, shelter, etc. Without consumer demand for their specialized labor, they can't afford necessities in the current system.
If you pare down the economy to things that are truly Needed, then so much of our work and livelihood is on the chopping block. I don't think we should all go to being isolated subsistence farmers - rather we need to establish a baseline of support so that everyone's real needs are met and if folks want to labor in exchange for advertised luxuries, they can

For fuck's sake, not every single board computer is Raspberry Pi®. There are lots of other brands. An old regular computer will probably function as well for everything you may want except the GPIOs, maybe slightly less energy efficiently though.
