"The route of least intellectual resistance" is my new favorite insult.

This guy really thought Elon Musk was one of the engineers designing Tesla cars?

I get wanting to respect someone, but he’s literally just a rich person. He’s not an engineering wiz.

Elon is mad that a scientist is pointing out the flaws in his latest grift.

There never were going to be data centers in space, that's just another way to dupe investors.

The science is sound. Otherwise a Thermos would be as effective at keeping things hot as any other bottle.

Honestly though, how fucking naive do you need to be to ever think Elon was a competent engineer?

We're still trying to find the bottom of that barrel unfortunately

I don't use twitter, this is satire right? cause if this is a real conversation im glad i was never on twitter to begin with lol

This is kinda what Twitter always was. It's what happens when you sort by author instead of by topic.

Look at the like counts. It's his platform, so unsurprising.

That is the thing that annoys me most. Getting heat away in vacuum / space is super complicated. Plus, what if a component breaks down? You can't send an engineer to replace a faulty cable.

You are fully r_tarded.

…according to Musk. But to anyone with an IQ above room temperature, you’re absolutely correct.

A quick google search aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand

https://www.weforum.org/stories/artificial-intelligence/space-data-centres-cooling

Scale ISS-style hardware to the modest 1 megawatt data centre, and the mass is punishing: roughly 100 tons of radiators alone. By comparison, 1 megawatt of cutting-edge AI compute racks is on the order of 10 tons. That is the economic knife edge: the radiators alone could weigh close to ten times more than the compute hardware. Since launch cost scales with mass, cooling could impose an order-of-magnitude launch-cost penalty, before the first token is generated.

Also; slop?

idfk I'm more agreeing with the guy and the article leans towards the guy being right too. I am not a scientist.

It's crazy though that elon musk, the person who owns SpaceX, didn't know about the radiation thing.

The partially intellectually delayed response of a fellow autistic..... I've been there buddy but you're better off explaining your answer long-hand than just insulting.

If you claim to be a high IQ individual that's some kind of savant on the spectrum, when those moments arise, those are the moments where you're supposed to be able to recall information at the drop of a dime.

I think that musk showed his intellectual delay.

Let's be very clear about one thing: Musk is not an engineer. He employs engineers, but he is not an engineer himself. He has given himself the title of Chief Engineer at SpaceX, but that's no different than me giving myself the title of Chief Surgeon. It's meaningless. The actual engineers at Tesla and SpaceX are very capable, though perhaps misguided, as one would have to be to work to further the interests of a megalomaniacal mega-dork like Musk. Unfortunately, many of these actual engineers must also have a kind of cult-like, sycophantic devotion to Musk, which is why none of them have the guts to tell him that AI data centers in space is a stupid fucking idea.

mega-dork

Hey now, let's leave the poor whale dicks out of this. 🥲

Rocket science is really cool. Rocket scientists are huge geeks about rocket science. If there are really only a handful of organizations hiring rocket scientists (and most of them are run by megalomaniacs or deeply entwined with the MIC), you're faced with the prospect of working for a bad company, or not working on your passion that you specialized in.

I remember some AMAs from The Site That Shall Not Be Named by SpaceX employees, and a common comment was that they do their best to keep him distracted so they can do their actual work because his ideas are stupid.

Rocket surgery, even more so.

Also, can we start referring to ridderp as "TSTSNBN" or "tstsnbn"? 🤣

(or, "ts^2^nbn"?)

Somehow we have to restructure our society so that no one has to be beholden to men like Musk. We have to end this plutocracy. We need to replace it with a meritocracy. Or, we could be really radical and replace it with >gasp< democracy.

TBF, I'm not confident he is human. I mean, if it went public that he's not, would anyone be surprised? Ofc, Zuck's more likely to sprout that leak, but still. Would we?

It should be (and might be?) illegal for him to call himself an engineer unless he graduated from an accredited school with a degree in engineering

Mega-dork is way too weak. He is a full blown Nazi and wants nothing but more power, money, influence etc.

you can bet the few that have the guts are quickly fired, so, the proportion remains

You don't really need a cult following, either. Most engineers just want to get paid well for their hard work and experience. Does Musk pay well? I don't know. But it's hard for me to believe so many smart people work for him just because of a cult following.

No, he does not pay well. His companies base bay is generally about 10-20% under market, and they are all 5 days in office.

The only reason you work there are for stock grants, you love his politics, or because your a true believer in the mission.

I guess you don't become the world's richest man by paying people fair wages.

In fact, history shows that it's literally impossible. 🤢

Every single penny those fucks have is ours, by right. 🤷🏼‍♂️

One would think an academic would realize that the hype man doesn't actually do any engineering.

It's an idea that would work much better after a few more years when the chips are mature and not changing as much and you have a moon base producing aluminum metal and then you can use the waste rock as radiators with a little bit of moonwater cooling. Doing it now is the worst time.

Yeah a data center, on earth or in space, sits on a ton of infrastructure. It is foolish to even mention the cherry on top when you don't even have a cake yet.

First we industrialize cis lunar space then we industrialize the moon then we'll see about data centers in space.

Apropos then that fElon prefers to declare he's placing said cherry on top and the rest of his cult scrambles to design, manufacture, and position said cake directly under the cherry's forecasted destination vector. ☝🏼

If you haven’t already, you should read Artemis.

Elon, a grown ass child man dropping the hard R word. wtf

Zero respect for this man child. And dropping the R word is probably the least offensive thing he has done. I lost respect for him a long time ago. I wouldn't look his way if he wanted to stop and chat. What a wanker.

If he is autistic, then you can tell he didn't grow up in a school like most neurodivergent people.

hard R word

Just a gentle reminder that the phrase "hard R" refers to an entirely different insult. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Elon used that word, too.

Good thing I said "hard R word", then.

But yeah, I'm sure he sprinkles some N words throughout his day.

lol what word is that?

cocksuckeR

I don't wish him on any cocks, TBF. 😅

The n word with a "hard r" at the end. The word Elon used is generally referred to as the "R slur"

Also,

Teslas are great cars

The heck?!

Good engineers designed and worked on them. Elon might be a tool but that doesn’t mean everything in Tesla is bad.

They may've been great when said engineers still had hands on them, but they were rapidly enshittified directly after leaving the womb.

Unlike fElon, who's been absolute shite since before his two gametes even met.

I didn't say everything about them is bad. I merely strongly disputed that they are "great cars".

Just one random anecdote: My colleague has a Tesla, and his trailer ball... thing... Whatever it's called in English, came off during towing, while driving. The load was way under specification maximum weight.

The whole thing underneath just let go of the rest of the car. Could've been a fatal accident for any vehicle near the event. I've never heard of that happening in my life lol. So many other problems with his car, too.

Was it first person/tesla installed hitch? I didn’t know they sold one. https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3-tow-package

But it could be an after market one.

Installed by first party, yes. Had to drive almost across the country to have it repaired, too. Not something a simple mechanic shop could fix. One more reason why it's shit.

The Model S and 3 were great cars when they came out. They redefined what a car can be. Now they're technologically stale because the rest of the industry has overtaken them in many areas. The Semi is by now an also-ran. The Cybertruck was always a crock of shit. Tesla could have done great things in the automotive space if they wanted to. Instead they concentrated on selling snake oil.

I think the latest 3 and Y are quite good because Musk was distracted by cybertruck and space x.

But they are getting left behind.

They're quite good but they're not class leading like they used to be. They were way ahead of the competition but then threw that away for Musk's pipe dreams.

To be fair, Elon was right: to have ever believed that Elon was respectable or an engineer was indeed "fully r-------".

Elon never was an engineer. He hired amazing engineers who managed to make amazing things despite his constant incompetent meddling.

Not even that. Brilliant people made brilliant things, word reached his vulture ear, and he bought their company.

People, stop giving your money to schmucks. Don't let them buy your company, take control, and fuck shit up. Aim for sustainability, not impossible growth.

Oh he didn't buy it. He placed loyal people in the board of directors and had them vote to give him control of the company. He didn't buy it, be stole it.

So you thought he was a good engineer up until this one thing? Okay at least something. But people here, why is this person suddenly relevant that we need to share this tweet, posted on the Nazis fucking own platform?

188k people like Elon’s ableist deflection.

What the goddamned fuck.

And how many of those are from bots, and how many are from Elon’s PR team?

That's one group, though.

It’s x dot com. 😔

X bot com

Bots, not people

At least 80% of them are bots.

Plenty of people here on lemmy downvote me when I politely ask folks to consider not using that epithet. While it seems the usage of it has gone way down, there are still plenty who feel it is their god-given right to use it. I've been given all sorts of reasons people think it's okay to use.

Sorry, which epithet?

Tbf elon was probably just talking to a mirror

tbf his tweets make more sense 99% of the time if you think of it not as messages directed at others, but his inner voice made digital manifest.
