Adjust the scale so it fits the bed. mine is 220x220x220

Ppa-cf or pps-cf and get cracking. Couple hundred euros per kg though

You wouldn't download a T Rex.

The fuck I wouldn't.

Turns out a boat is the most downloaded object.

I have a bus fit into my PC a car is nothing.

I have at least two bridges in my PC!

The funny thing about this is that the entire hobbyist 3D printer market we have now grew out of rapid prototyping machines developed by the auto industry in the 80s:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printing

People were building their own printers in 2005, with development led by the RepRap project:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RepRap

In 2009 the patent for FDM technology expired, which allowed MakerBot to begin selling consumer machines:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MakerBot

...which is really when the whole consumer market took off.

IP holds us back from having so much cool shit.

yeah. it really needs to end. private property in general was a bad idea.

Also they 3D print metal eg for rockets.

Those machines are crazy expensive though.

Easy, just download and print the machine.

That's when you use that sinterable filament that's like half metal powder 😈

Selective laser melting

The metal powder is cheaper, but the printer itself ... not so much.

Printing with that would be crazy expensive tho. 300€ a 1kg spool that will lose chunk of its mass upon baking it to remove plastic, and we’d need few hundreds of these.

Yup, and that's like way more money than just buying a car 😭

Plus, I think those sintered metal FDM parts have some porosity issues unfortunately... But it's a fun thought

I feel like before you'd manage to print an entire car, the metal powder would absolutely fuck the nozzle up

Good thing nozzles are cheap and replaceable

....probably true yeah 😅

There is a process for printing metal parts, it's being used on one of NASA's new aerospike rocket nozzles. IIRC it uses lasers and metal dust

Most good cars have ABS.

In fact a lot of them also have parts made of ABS

I saw a 3D printer for metal parts about 15 years ago in a university setting. I don't remember the cost or limitations of the equipment, but they exist.

If I remember correctly it was printing a batch of bottle openers.

And cars suck anyway. Download good public transport and bikes!

I kinda wonder how much of a bike you could 3d print and how good it would be. Frame should be possible, might need alterations for the different material but the tubes are hollow anyway, maybe with reinforcement inside or thicker walls it would be mostly fine.

Wheels could be completely 3D printed, let's make a boneshaker!

Most questionable part is probably the moving joints. Axles, bearings and chain.

But I do NEED 1000kg of epstein files... would even get few printers to reduce printing time.

Been downloading cars since 2014!

My ABS engine is good! Warranty is one stroke of the piston.

Well there are printable materials that are super hard like steel

Like I have said it in the past, Australians have already done this. I saw a 2 minute fairbairn youtube documentary and everything, where a guy downloaded a car and offered his friend to go for a ride with him to test it out.

Fun fact is that arc welding is sort of a deposition process too. So you definitely can print with metal and not just metal dust, metal "filament" would work. The problem is that you can't print at a precision level AND speed that would make it remotely worthwhile.

Modern machinery is pretty incredible. I'm not sure how to go back to even steam power days to DIY. Hell, even some of that made back then was pretty precise. Those who do such craftsmanship are amazing.

Hm could work with laser wielding
