It's not as hard as it sounds, and definitely not as hard as its made out to be.
It's partly a matter of trust, I'm not savvy enough to clean an infected package.
Nobody cleans infected packages, it's just a matter of trusting the source and using one that's popular enough some of the users will have done the hard work of checking.

Oddly, give it a year. They made so much more money off the online part that they practically (and literally on Epic) made GTAV free. Then we both get to try it for cheap.
GTA Online is also probably part of why there was a crazy amount of time between 5 and 6: They didn't want to kill their cash cow.
