We have moved on.

Foreign policy is dictated by the president. Tariffs could get even worse, though Trump is looking pretty beat.
Oh please, if ignoring America worked I'd have left it by now instead of staying to vote and fight it all.
Whilst I admire your voting and fighting etc I'll also point out that the distrust of the usa and it's population doesn't just go back to the way it was.
I mean, I did that when Biden was elected... and then nothing happened to the evil people. Then Fatboy McKiddieFiddler was elected again.
If you peeps actually and properly go after PresiDunce Drumpf, and the enablers and the handlers etc, then maybe things can change.
But if not then they will just get a more competent evil idiot to do their evil bidding and we will all be back to where we have been the last 10 years.
You are being ignored, and people have moved on.
I wish this was how it is, but we all know it isnt and things will mostly just go back to how they were.
not this time.
I work in IT for a public company, and a big chunk of the budget is now for de-americanification (ditch microsoft, aws, and switch to foss and ovh).
As much as I would absolutely love for EU to collectively disown all dependence of America and invest in sovereign tech concentrated in Europe, I agree that it sadly seems like a far stretch, for now. But there has been progress - France's government opting to Linux over Windows, for example.
If you wouldn't mind sharing (totally fine if you don't), where are you based and/or what sector are you referring to?
I work indirectly for "France’s government"
Every couple of years we will flip flop between batshit crazy and somewhat less crazy. You need to move on from us. This is not healthy.
In your opinion, what would it take for the US to push for electoral reform of some kind?
I would say money out of politics is a good start. Citizens United needs to go.
Beyond that though, American willingly voted in a man twice who said he grabs women by the pussy.
Then there's all the other shitty things about him that were known for years prior to 2016.
I don't know how you fix that. America shows us all who they are and how do you change who you are? A sexist, racist, money obsessed bipolar lunatic.
Probably getting rid of Citizen's United, taxing the wealthy correctly, getting rid of the electoral college, reworking the makeup of the Supreme Court, and ranked choice voting would do most of it. All hard but doable.
Theoretically we could end the electoral college next year. There's a thing called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. We now have trifectas in enough states for it to go in effect, should a few more states join. We also have Congress too (needed because they'll have to approve it). It's unlikely the federal government can force the states to do ranked choice voting without a Constitutional amendment. But we could implement it on a state by state basis. The Supreme Court could be reshaped by the next President and a willing Congress - the needed precedent is already there in the circuit courts. Citizen's United is trickiest. The straightforward approach requires either a Constitutional amendment or the Supreme Court to overturn itself. But it's possible there's some tricky alternate paths to accomplish the goal. One of them is convincing enough states to ban corporate spending on political speech. Since corporations are a state creation, they alone have that sort of power. Problem is even one non cooperating state could possibly ruin that. But there might be other ways too.
Don't count on it, they are proud that their constitution is really old.
Violent Revolution.
Sadly, that’ll never happen. Americans only protests when it’s convenient, and they’ll never boycott the things they will not let go of.
If it was revealed that the federal government is mostly a front to transnational criminal syndicates that traffic humans, smuggle drugs and weapons.
Oh wait...
Yeah, it all changed in the 70s. Oh wait.
Define electoral reform. Ranked voting in all states?
I don't remember the percentage of the top of my head, but in America a huge amount of people are one unexpected large bill away from poverty and a lot of people are living pay check to pay check. Once a significant portion of America can no longer afford bread, then we might see some change.... and likely deaths.
Bread is cheap. Rent is expensive. People won't go hungry and revolt, they'll go homeless and live in their cars.
This is not 1850. The world has changed. You gotta talk to people to build your movement. 100 years ago, people lived in communities and organised around the dinner table. Now try inviting someone over for porridge to discuss revolting against the king. They'll tell you they're too busy for a revolution. They're a half hour drive away from you and they're exhausted from 12 hours telling Copilot to balance spreadsheets. They'll order maccas over doordash, eat while doomscrolling, and fall asleep.
They keep us just comfortable enough that we'll keep running the maze for our next slice of cheese, but far too busy to question the maze itself. And they train us to respond to economic stress by running harder.
Yeah that's cool but as soon as people think they can make money making deals with the US, it's back to business as usual. I don't make the rules, but it's money over everything.
If I'm wrong, great, but I'm doubtful.
I can't believe my countrymen ruined our country's friendship with Canada 😞 shit sucks
Just wait until the Reserve Currency changes.
And Iris² & Freya kicks off.
Trump sure burned what the USA had to the ground.
The genie is out of the bottle now. The US allies now realize every four years an absolute moron can grab power and shit on them.
It’s gonna take decades at least to repair the damage the maga morons have caused, if it ever even can be repaired at all.
Simply going ‘UwU sowwy’ is not enough.
Multi-polar global power distribution is better for everyone across the board. One country holding too much power leads to abuses of that power.
Once the dust settles and the Trump era is over, we shouldn’t go back to the way things were before. Bush did a lot of the same shit starting wars on flimsy excuses. Even Obama upped the drone killings.
The post-WW2 rule of international law has to be restored to avoid something worse happening in the future.
What about a heyyyyyyyyyyy?
u up 🍁?
Death to America. They need to be sanctioned out of existence and balkanized. They have proven once again they cannot be trusted. They have run out of chances.
What's it like being an insufferable edgelord tankie? Is it like a phase? Or are you just emotionally stunted and unregulated?
What's it like living in a country that you don't get a choice whether it commits genocides or not? Better be careful what you post on the internet or the Gestapo will get ya.
Shut up tankie.
Eat yourself to death fatass.
As an american: Agreed
✊
We're not getting rid of tariffs to make friends, we're doing it to make our own imports cheaper.
Can't afford not to. Dependency on America is a massive liability now. Nobody is returning to that golden age of trade. Americans ended their own dominance.
Moving on from us with benefit us both
They never said they were going to remove tariffs.
One of the dems suggested they should focus on reconciliation with Canada. I think as a country we have an idea that reconciliation isn't a quick or easy thing, and frankly, we'd be morons to get back into bed with the US.
Don't forget the other Americas, they have permanent trade deals with Canada and Europe now also.
As an American, it sucks, I'm sorry, I get it. Hold us accountable please, until we can figure out some better safeguards.
I never expect to have the same relationships we had, but I do hope that we can at leastend some of the damage. Long term, the EU and Canada will be stronger because of this, but I hope we can be amicable and respectable at some point and just have a healthy relationship with our neighbors and once allies.
I was at an economics lecture today (Piketty), and the closing piece was about hope for the future that basically boiled down to: the US is weakening. The specific piece was the US losing veto power at the IMF very soon.
Americans may have the memory of a goldfish. The rest of us do not.
Goldfish have a better memory than I do.
Multipolarity is coming!
Nothing wrong with that, just been discovering more productive and reliable partnerships.
Um I'd bet good money most of y'all are one or two elections (edit: gone wrong) away from becoming like America here it's not like you're living on another planet. Also it's kinda funny seeing all the Europeans and Canadians so offended by America's recent behavior, like what do you think your country has been aiding and abetting since WWII?
While plenty of parties tries to import the american culture war to my country, our democratic system kinda prevents the shit Trump tried to pull.
And while Americans usually have trouble grasping the Europe is not a single country I can assure you that there have been plenty of push back against US imperialism over the years.
Also, nice to include refugees as a backlash, nicely outs your opinion in the matter.

You mean exactly what Putin, Orban and Vucic did? If there was a silver anti-authoritarian bullet nobody would struggle with this stuff.
I can assure you that there have been plenty of push back against US imperialism over the years.
Sure if by "pushback" you mean "participating less than usual in specific acts of imperialism." For every Iraq there's an Afghanistan and a Yemen, and don't get me started on Israel.

I'm actually a radical open border commie, but clearly most Europeans aren't happy about the whole refugees thing.

What I mean is, countries with proportional elections or weaker presidential powers are a bit more 'vaccinated' against executive take overs. Also there's all this religious bullshit in the US that is not existing in the same way in Europe. Americans are religious nutjobs on a whole other level which is why creating an Christian etnostate seems tempting for many US voters.

Don't forget Vietnam, the Gulf War, the military coups and so on! But sure, governments change and public opinion are not static, which explains why some countries happily helped in some US bombing campaigns and harshly criticised other at another time.
I'm actually a radical open border commie, but clearly most Europeans aren't happy about the whole refugees thing.
Bet you are, that's why you added it as a drawback, for our sake.
