Hahaha wydm just pull the plug and plug it back in
What always gets me about this is how little it would cost to add a manual override over whatever internet connectivity stuff. I mean secure it with a passcode or whatever so disgruntled grocery worker #58 don't fuck up your shit but that's like, what, 20 eurodollars of parts and maybe a thousand of R&D to make every use case in which your software decides or somebody decides in your software to sous vide all your shit so much less worse
True, although what's more likely in this case is that it's on a BMS (building management system) with all the other AC settings for the building. Sure, back in the day this would've been analog with timers that tick and whir for when things turn on, but it's pretty sensible to have it on a BMS that's got it's own secure network.
Basically whoever set this up probably did it wrong and fucked themselves over, in the same way that if you have a NAS you should be sure you're not opening it up to the whole internet.
Source: maintenance guy, the buildings I manage use it and never get hacked because we have a closed network for it.
At least if it was Zigbee or something there is a physical boundary to the internet that needs to be explicitly bridged. The logical steps to make an IP LAN into a WAN is a much lower bar.
