Vegan or not, i love broccoli.

Broccoli is incredible.

I've been vegan for a little over a year now and I realized why that old joke is true for a couple reasons. For one, there are a lot of commitments that involve food with coworkers and friends, so of course the fact that you're vegan and accommodations will come up there. But it's also just kind of a lot of work looking into ingredients and the reasons for why ingredients are or aren't vegan. It just naturally becomes something you talk about with coworkers and loved ones.

"We've got to eat meat"

"You need protein"

"I couldn't live without _____ "

Honestly, I think a lot of people just think I'm not hungry very often.

I have a vegan and a vegetarian co-worker as part of my group. The vegan says we care more about accommodating them being vegan than they do. We've never gone out to a lunch or brought food in without thinking about them and making sure the place we're going has something they'll actually like.

That being said we make comments about it every fucking time. But it's like a gentle ribbing, but it is constant. If I have to think about it, for some reason I'm going to make a comment about my food's food, and I can't stop myself. I'm sorry!

Imagine being "gently ribbed" for not eating puppies.

You have meat eaters in your life eating puppies?

Not that I know of.

I can rephrase: imagine getting "gently ribbed" for not participating in something you find cruel and sickening.

It's not like eating cows and such is morally different.

I would have gone straight to humans then. We're also animals. People actually do farm dogs as food, the vast majority of Western meat eaters are against that and they actually can't square the circle you are trying to make. They legitimately can't make the connection between pets animals and food animals, it's the same disconnect that lets people walk past a bunch of homeless people and do nothing. They'll just think "well I don't do that" and ignore your point, making you preaching to the quoir.

Now if you say imagine getting ribbed for eating the same stuff you're made of. Of course you'd be grossed out, what's the difference between a person slicing into a piece of pork and you. Go full modest proposal. That puppy shit just makes you look goofy too the people you want to convince

I'm so thankful that meat eaters know all the best ways to convince others to stop eating meat. You can tell by how well it works for them.

Fun anecdote but from another side: I eat meat but not regularly. I ordered vegetarian option on a lunch with people because I didn't like the meat options they had. But the vegetarian person was like "why are you ordering vegetarian? You don't have food restrictions do you?" I didn't say anything but I was thinking "how does me being ok eating meat means I need to eat it every meal?"

I don't like eggs. I don't like the smell, I don't like the taste, I don't like the texture. I'm not allergic to them, but they make me gag. Whenever it comes up with someone who doesn't know me, I'm typically drawn into a tedious recounting of why I don't eat eggs and then the inevitable "You'd like my eggs, I make them differently." Oh, do you now? You've got a magic recipe that makes them not taste, smell and feel like eggs? If that's the case, what's the point of eating them?

All that to say, people should be left alone about their food preferences. In fact, there should be no conversation about what's on somebody else's plate beyond "that looks/smells good" and even then, only if they are dining together.

Except in the case that they're eating human meat; Questions are required.

Yup. When my wife asked me if one of my friend doesn't eat meat for religious reasons or sth else, my answer was "I don't know" because we never had that conversation. Some people are vegetarian, some are vegan, I don't really think about asking why unless it comes up. I know some of my cousins don't eat meat because they grew up in the city and one time they visited the farms and saw how meat is made and they couldn't eat after that. But that info came from their parents, I never thought about asking, and I like it when someone doesn't ask me about my preferences too when I reject certain food.

I was tricked into this post with promises of broccoli but all I got was annoyed at carnists lol

🙂🙂

my son (born and raised vegetarian) just came second in a 5k with a time of 15:33 ish. a relative said "if he ate a burger he would have come first"

I don't think people are born vegetarian.

Babies are only supposed to drink boob juice for a while, so I guess they are?
