Good luck kicking out the headlights from the trunk. That's quite a stretch.
If they put you in the trunk and you manage to kick out the headlights from back there... Why did you let them put you in the trunk in the first place.
If you've never replaced a car tail light before, why would you make a comment in the first place?
From inside the trunk one can easily access most vehicle's rear lights. Kicking them until the wiring is damaged or the bulb shatters is easy to conceptualize.
It was already pointed out to you that the suggestion was to kick out the headlights, not the taillights. But also, what was the last car you owned where the wiring and bulbs were exposed? All of mine have had hard carpet panels in the way and those will absorb a lot of the force when you kick at them.
You'd have to remove those panels first and if you can do that, you're not really tied up so that means you could probably just straight up tear the wires out by hand quicker than kicking

FYI, the 'keys between the fingers' thing doesn't really work and will probably injure yourself more than anyone you hit with it. Keeping a pepper spray canister on your keyring would be much better.

I carry a gun myself, but I recognize that it's not for everybody.
It's more expensive, has more legal issues surrounding it, is more dangerous, requires more practice and training, is prohibited in more places, is heavier and more difficult to carry, comes with more burden of responsibility, poses more risk to someone who might have mental health issues, etc, etc, etc.
I do think it's by far the most effective self-defense tool you can have, and good for you if you do ... but some people can't or shouldn't have one. I wanted to recommend something more accessible and applicable to a wider range of people. Pepper spray still has pretty good effectiveness, and it doesn't have a lot of the gun's downsides and problems.

Yeah, but I was born in May, so my birth gun is a .50cal. It's not practical for everyday carry.

idk there are schools and a kindergarten near my home and let me tell you, those kids scream while playing. just a few days ago, I heard a super loud scream and it turns out they played soccer, someone scored and they mimicked men cheering after goals, but so much louder. it was almost satirical. my point is: ppl living near/with kids get used to random screams.
kids need to be taught that screaming is ONLY for emergencies

That might only work to stutter them with shame and get a few looks, but the loud shaming'd be the likeliest takeaway for onlookers. (ie. embarrassing, ignore, etc.)

Can a trunk be kicked open from inside?
Trunks in modern cars are required to have a release inside. They may not be easy to find in the dark.
The kicking out the lights advice I believed is aimed at disabling the lights to encourage a police officer to stop the vehicle for broken lights. Not to enable an escape.

They should make requirements for visibility. Glowing would definitely make them more effective.
They could also be tampered with if the offender is planning a crime. So they may not work or may not even be visible.
It would be easy to cut the cable connected to the trunk release. They are there for safety in case of an accidental lock-in not a tool to prevent vehicles being used for kidnappings.

These are rare occurrences in America too, but if you care for your daughter or wife or sister or whoever else, you prepared them for the worst so they can still be there with you tomorrow. Honestly when I replied, I didn't even realize this was a French instance but the anecdote is the first one that came to mind.

- « au feu » au lieu de à l’aide, la première fois que j’ai lu ce conseil c’était par rapport à la france, principalement parce que personne ne répond sous prétexte que "quelqu’un d’autre va forcément passer et faire quelque chose"
- il y a des applications qui indiquent les safe places les plus proches de sa position aux femmes qui sont suivies dans la rue, je parle toujours pour le cas de la france
- pour les attouchements dans les transports en publique ça … ouaip, ça c’est très commun
Ne pas le vivre c’est une chose et c’est tant mieux en fait ! Par contre, et c’est terrible, c’est extrêmement facile de ne pas en entendre parler : les victimes ne sont plus forcément là pour en parler, celles qui le sont n’ont peut-être pas la force de le faire, les plateformes sociales et médiatiques invisibilisent et discréditent …
