Still a webbrowser in disguise, adds over 1 GB of reserved RAM.

What makes you think Valve doesn't use AI?

Vibe coded? More like cuck coded, they typed some stuff and watched it do the work

It should be noted the startup improvement was on Steam Beta before the release of the Epic Vibe Launcher but it is funny regardless

It didn't even take Valve a week to optimize their client after Epic updated theirs.

It amazes me how absolutely tone deaf Tim Sweeney is.

He’s a complete dipshit. An utter twatwaffle, if you will.

I still can't believe he basically ruled game engines after Carmack shot himself in the foot with IdTech Doom3 and megatextures, and fumbled the fucking ball this hard.

He's literally sitting on fortnite money ON TOP and STILL FUCKING UP.

HOW?!

When you're on top, it's easy to insulate yourself from anyone willing to tell you, "No, that's a stupid idea!"

Should show the video of someone changing video settings in Fortnite, it asking to relaunch the game, and EGS loads up Among Us.

No way that actually happened that's hilarious. I'm guessing it just launched the first game that was installed alphabetically or something?

I tried the update on two different machines (one with a SATA SSD boot drive, other with M.2), and my Steam startup time is still about 15 seconds on both.

It been downhill since they went ~~Electron~~, I don't remember the old app taking more than 3 to 4 seconds. Since the ~~Electron~~ client loading times have been unpredictable sometimes 5-10 seconds and sometimes to around 30 seconds even though no updates available.

Edit: CEF

The client isnt electron, its based on CEF.

Still Chromium

Yeah, much as I like the New Big Picture UI, the Steam Input Configurator is an order of magnitude jankier now than it was before.

Yeah Steam is cool and all but this is not its strong suit. It is rather hilarious to see every other app on my CachyOS install launch in the blink of an eye, and then Steam is really no different than it was on Windows.

ha ha ai bad! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I mean, it depends on who's using it, but usually. Do you think epic decently implemented features with AI? Because I doubt it. They can't even set resolution properly.

Damn ONE minute too late, I was gonna say the same thing lmao

Yea AI CAN be decent and useful, but you gotta put the effort in to check and fix it's fuck ups. Epic is not the ones I'd trust to do that lmao

I opened epic, it froze my laptop, and then gave me a crash report code about resolution. I don't think epic is competent enough to review code. If they can't review code, it doesn't matter how good the llm is, unless it's perfect.

If they can't write code, they can't review it either.

Exactly. More junior devs doesn't fix the absence of QA

Continue posting AI slop that no one likes. Blocked.

Its always 6 months with AI... strange pattern.

what do you mean?

lf you guys can’t type a complete sentence could you stop responding to me? just keep your weird thoughts to yourself

Oh you haven't noticed it yet? When it comes to improvement of AI or perceived value, its always that it will be better in 6 months. Just like fusion is only 2 years away. All the while the world is burning, hurrah for the shareholders!

AI has not significantly improved in the last 6 months and won't in the upcoming 6 months, it's all marketing nonsense at this point. We've reached the mathematical limit of what transformer models based on language can achieve and there's no new fundamental tech in the pipeline, all you see now are minor improvements in efficiency and implementation (harnesses and stuff). New domains it is used in doesn't make it better overall, and it sure as hell doesn't improve LLM's ability of understanding structural design or suddenly add an ability of abstract adaptation (what would be necessady for "AGI").

Even the trust-me-bro benchmarks - if not faked - show them topping out at this point, not just scientific studies into the matter.

The technology has reached its limit being financially pumped up without breaking even. To say it has improved massively in the last 6 months is just drinking the marketing Koolaid, only the implementations proceeded. The models behind it are stagnating.

And for the love of god, stop with this "but China!!!" bullshit. The west literally moved all production capacity there and now blames China for the results. I dislike the CCP as well, but once taking production capacity, market of said products (i.e. western products get counted for western CO2 budgets) and population into account it looks completely different.

You can put as much lipstick as you want on that pig, I still wouldn't fuck it with someone else's dick.

Spoken like someone who has never tried to read AI slop code.
