I put oat milk in my coffee just to piss off god. Strike me down now if you don't like it shithead!

I feel like I'm on Facebook.

Oh so jesus comes from a long line of table flippers

Not that long a line, just jesus, his dad God, and his dad, Supergod
there's no more links in that chain

theyrethesamepicture.png

and then each turtle beneath them.

If god doesn't want almond milk why did he give them nipples

Nut milk comes from male cows.

Well god, if you hadn't make a huge chunk of population to be lactose intolerant, we wouldn't be looking for alternatives.

I used to work as a barista and whenever someone would make a snide remark when asked what kind of milk they wanted I'd agree and say I was a purist too, only Mommy's milk for me.

Man I wish the baristas here kept asking that question, I always forgot to ask for anything-other-than-dairy and then I get tummy aches. :c

Around here a lot of cafes go with alternative by default, no extra charge and you have to ask for cow milk if you want it.

Don’t have to non-consensually impregnate the almond and force it to stand in one spot hooked up to machinery against its will daily.

I only have almond milk that was obtained consensually. I get it from an almond-whisperer I met in Santa Fe. She has reassured me multiple times that she asks each almond individually if they're ok with being milked. It's $400 per bottle, but I swear to god it tastes so much better.

Almonds also wear armor to keep themselves clean and aren't forced to wade around and dangle their milkmakers in sewage.

Eww never considered that, worth knowing

it's absurd to discuss consent from something that can't be informed. do you get consent from your sink before you put dirty dishes in it?

You should apply to the FBI.

You think the cows don't very obviously express their displeasure at what's being done to them? My cat uses body language to convey when they're upset I pet them at the wrong time.

this doesn't change whether it's meaningful to discuss consent from something fundamentally incapable of consenting.

the whole discussion is absurd. it's like debating the maximum height that a pig can fly.

Is physically resisting not an expression of not consenting to something being done to you? Also, abinals absolutely can express that they like something being done to them, which would be an expression of consent for the respective behavior. We don't need them to be able to talk to draw the conclusion that artificial insemination isn't ethical.

consent is informed. cows aren't people. expressing that they don't like something doesn't indicate that they understand it. they are no more able to consent then an inanimate object. discussing consent from them is just as absurd. if artificial insemination has an ethical issue, it can't be consent from cows. it must be something else.

Is full understanding necessary? If they find it unpleasant, then resist because of it, and you continue anyways, you're violating their bodily autonomy.

understanding is necessary for consent to be meaningful.

I don't believe livestock have bodily autonomy at all.

You fuck your sink?

no but I put dirty dishes in it

Okay so if you agree that animals can't consent, then we should leave them alone.

And I would get consent from my sink if it was a sentient being. (What a weird non-sequitur comparison)

Ideally yeah, we should stop doing to animals what we've been doing for a while now. People would rather feel right about eating meat because powerful people tell them too, than feel wrong because people like them tell them so.

I would get consent from my sink if it was a sentient being.

sentience has nothing to do with the ability to be informed

you are so bad at this.

disengage

sentience has nothing to do with the ability to be informed

it's like you're trying to accidentally prove this yourself.

Okay so if you agree that animals can’t consent, then we should leave them alone.

no

By that logic there's nothing wrong with pedophaelia or child labour either (as long as the kids are young enough to be unable to inform)

turns out, humans can be informed. and ethics are about how we treat other people.

other people

I notice you didn't say "other humans" there. I think that speaks for itself.

it says what it means. bad faith interpretations don't change it.

Excuse me god (if you exist), you also gave us almonds.

but not lemons, we made those

It's the nut milk that's weird, not interspecies breast milk.

Exactly the most ridiculous argument I've ever heard.

I mean do you want to see human breast milk in stores?

If you're appalled by the idea of human milk in stores, you need to reconsider why you find consuming milk from other animals to be acceptable. It's weird as fuck. Just because it's normalized doesn't make it not weird. It just means you don't think about it.

I don’t drink milk, I’m just asking if you want to see it in stores.

Personally, no, and I don't want to see animal milk in stores either. There are only two logically consistent answers to that and it's this one or the inverse; yes. I guess the yes could be two reasonable answers of "yes, and..." or "yes, but not animal milk."

There are only two logically consistent answers

wrong.

The only answer left is "animal milk is fine, except for humans." I don't see how that one is logical. It's emotional only. Humans are animals, and human milk is the stuff that is actually made for human consumption. Humans can also consent. I don't see any logical way you could exclude human milk but include other animals.

human milk is the stuff that is actually made for human consumption.

cows milk is also made for human consumption. and goat milk. and many others.

no, you can say animal milk is fine, and human milk not produced through exploitation is fine.

How is it worse than force breeding another species, take their child away to steal their milk? I mean, i wouldn't drink human milk, but i don't find it so much worse from some other species.

At least the... uhh... vendors could consent.

Nice (?)

sigh Are you sure you want to ask that question on Lemmy?

Yes, please.

Yes

Wait was that an option?

Formula?

Much weirder to steal the breast milk from other living beings.

I'd say tofu is almost as strange as food gets.

Strange? It's just cheese made from soy milk.

Oh so it's like paneer. Neat

I saw a documentary once, it went through all the different types of tofu, showed how they were made and all. From soft tofu to smoked and tofu skin.

It has many different varieties and uses. Yes like paneer, but also like cheddar, mozzarella and pastry.

Until god admits he also gave me lactose intolerance he can fuck all the way off

Lactose intolerance is also the default - we evolved to stop drinking milk after childhood. Only eastern Europeans (and a few other areas) gained lactose tolerance due to access to cow breeding.

Forcing an animal to continuously breed and steal the calf away to steal the milk is a little weird..

Psst, I think you mean Western Europeans.

You are correct

Nah, god just wanted you to suffer

Expected behavior from the Demiurgos

He also gave us the science to fix it with gene therapy, but we won't for reasons.

I just skimmed the video again, and in the vein of being fair, he did revert to being intolerant over the period of 18 months and is considering changing it up and doing it again in the future. He can't just use the same virus, (he's now immune) and he'd need to change up how it's done so it doesn't fade when his intenstines schlough off over time.

TIL

Ironically almond milk was invented because God said people couldn't have animal milk during lent so they improvised.

I don't think that's quite accurate. It was used in the Middle Ages on fast days, for sure, but we have earlier examples from West Asian cultures (e.g. the C12 Iberian Arabic Kitāb al-Ṭabīḫ and a mention by the C11 Persian author Ibn Sina).

I can confirm this stuff is legit. I also have a great collection of shiny things now.

Oats make better milk anyway

In terms of cost, environmental impact, and ease of making your own, yeah absolutely. In terms of flavor, it's almonds hands down.

I like Coconut "milk" best, especially cooking with it, but idk how it ranks for environmental impact.

Disagree, oat milk tastes great

Soy all day every day, yo.

This God is dumb cause this God yucks on people's yums

"I have nuts, Greg. Can you milk me?"

Wait...

8 animals? Wtf?

Cow, sheep, goat, horse, donkey, camel, yak, buffalo?

How about:

But I always drink my….malk??

Bison, alpaca, llama?

Can you milk a bison? Are they even domesticated? Bison milking sounds like an extreme sport on MTV in the 90's

I was not aware of llama and alpaca milk but it makes sense. Now looking for Inca cheese...

idk if bison are domesticated but they are most certainly farmed

Ostriches are farmed, too; but they are not milked for some reason. So, the fact an animal is farmed doesn't help us to know if it can be milked. Now let's have a look at farm crocodiles, I'll try to milk one to gather additional knowledge. I'll come back to you ASAP.

I have no idea about any of them, was just asking if they are milked.

Apparently llama and alpaca cheese are a thing. Reindeer cheese, too

https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/strange-cheeses

Now I wonder about pigs.

Yeah, sorry that I exist. I swear my milk is at least drinkable.

I offer to get milked. (We also can milk pretty much all mamals, pretty sure)

Yes yes in fact you can.
