Orange coffee

ngl I think orange juice coffee is pretty good
I think the problem is the orange flavor syrup. I've met people in my country that add lemon to coffee, but you must like the bitter and sour food to enjoy it.
I have a, shall we say, pretty adventurous sense of taste (autism gave me the weird taste buds that don't really get taste stimulation right). I frequently order/make things all my other friends call 'cursed af'.
But y'know what, the summer that I worked at a cafe and had unlimited time to make my own 'secret menu items' was a really fun period of experimentation. Yeah, I found some that were nasty. But a lot were fun and unique.
Don't be afraid of new things! Unless you're the other kind of autistic, in which case, it's totally fine to stay in your comfort zone.
Fuck yeah! I've always been like this, trying new things just for the experience and possible good outcome but never getting mad or wasting anything if it isn't good. I've never understood people who always go for the same thing, need stuff to happen the same way on a schedule etc.
Gotta be clear that I don't think bad of people like that at all, it's what they need and all power to them for having that, but I don't understand it. I go crazy from anything like it, I can't stand things being the same all the time.
I'd much rather try something new and it not working out than having the same thing over and over.
Do most people just throw away a thing they dislike or something? Idk why it's noteworthy to commit to the decision you made.
yes
I thought adding a bit of oregano to my omlette would be nice. I too lived with the consequences.
I have done that with beer. I never get the same beer twice, I always get a variety.
Protip: pistachio beer tastes like sadness.
My experience with pistachio beer was mild horror. Like being unsure where you left your keys and taking more than a minute to find them.
What do you mean? That would be blazing fast for my wife. Should she try the beer to get this speed?
I'm generally the same. I live in a region of America with a bustling craft beer scene. I don't think I could try all the different brews around here if I tried.
There are some exceptions. I.e., Heady Topper...I don't think it's really all that great of a beer, tbh. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's worthy of all the hype that it gets...but damn if that hype doesn't make me want to order it whenever I see it actually on a menu.
I once mixed mango pulp in beer. It was GLORIOUS. Best drink ever.
Mango lassi with vodka, however, was not the best match. Not bad, but not great either.
Theres a number ofango beers I've enjoyed...but that sounds more like a slushie beer. Also delicious.
pistachio beer
Who the fuck had the audacity to disrespect pistachios like this? I still can't forgive dairy companies for pistachio ice cream, but now the alcohol industry has drawn my ire
I don’t know. Indeed makes a fair Pistachio Ale.
When a tire company can't sell tires, it makes up a restaurant review system to get people to drive more.
Is the jobs market really that bad that Indeed has turned to brewing?
If you're talking about Indeed in Minneapolis, that is a brewery I should like but find it quite bleh.
you havent had Indeed's pistachio ale then. heavenly flavor
Oh god that the exact shit I mean. The flavor of sadness and despair.
you must be going through some shit then damn
Yeah! I definitely went through some shit when I had that beer. Most of that shit being defined by phrases such as: Why did I buy this garbo? Who make this garbo? What were they smoking when they made this garbo? Can I buy an ounce of what they were smoking, because it must be some goooood shit. Also, I need to get the taste of pistachio beer out of my mouth, and smoking on that good stuff will definitely help.
Now that's a healthy personality.
Orange and chocolate is a thing so I can see how they might think it would be worth trying.
Disgusting
Counterpoint: Jaffas
(Not the Kree kind)
It sure is. Reading this while eating a bit of Lindt Excellence - 70% cacao with sicilian orange... You don't really feel the orange, to be honest. But you get little nuggets of the fruit amidst the bitterness. Delish !
Raspberry can work with coffee IF you add cocoa, similarly I would imagine orange would do better with some chocolate as well.
Toss in some Amaretto and baby, you got a morning cocktail.
What is WRONG with you?!
I mean.. Its a known good flavour. Exhibit A:
Bet that tastes great after brushing your teeth
"i am living with the consequences" goes hard. major personal accountability. I respect it. props to OOP for extending mercy too tho.
Honestly, that's my type. "I fucked up but I won't complain my way to trying for something better." I agree, good on both of em.
I mean, living with the consequences doesn’t mean you have to drink it. Having to buy a second drink that you know you like is still living with the consequences.
I let the bad thoughts in and ordered a drink that was a mix of espresso and root beer. It wasn't undrinkable, but I wouldn't order it again.
Cold brew and Jarritos mandarin soda is actually pretty good.
Cold brew, fresh orange juice, and fizzy water over ice is so odd but really good. The Jarritos would be too sweet but with real oj it tastes like smoky orange. I was so skeptical the first time I made it but it's good.
I fuck with this hard. I always pick weird foods when I go to a new restaurant, stuff that I don't know what I'm getting, and if it's bad I eat it, if it's good I eat it.
I live with the consequences, and as a consequence of that, I have found some amazing meals and foods that I never would have eaten if I hadn't experimented.
Last week I was drinking rum and rasberry flavoured pepsimax. I didn't buy the mixer but it was the only cola we had. It was not good.
"How's everything tasting, folks?"
"... like I got what I deserved 😑"
"It's exactly what I ordered, thanks. 😵💫"
Was at a restaurant with a friend years ago. He had salad and they came to the table and asked "how is the salad?"
His answer: leafy.
You're friends with Pee-Wee Herman?
Is that something Pee-Wee said?
Not specifically. A classic Pee-Wee trope was to eat something and say, "Mmm... [something]-y!" According to Paul Reubens' posthumous biography, it was a gag that he got from his first and only serious boyfriend.
the joker when he has to eat a custard pie
2nded. I usually don't ~~try~~ sample ice cream flavours, I just pick something new. If it sucks, it sucks, whatever.
Me neither, I just pick chocolate. I related hard to Troi.
Any amazing recommendations? Anything horrible to avoid? I would love to hear your experiences
Normally at Vietnamese restaurants I'd always get a bahn mi, hard to go wrong with a delicious tasty sandwich, but I decided to try the pho.
Pho is a soup made with raw meat in hot broth. It looked mildly unappetizing when I first got it, but it was one of the best meals I'd ever had in my life.
Maybe it's more commonplace now, but where I lived, there was only one Vietnamese restaurant in like a 20 mile radius, so it was completely new to me.
Also, Egyptian food, I found a place called kebab in Portland when I was driving through on vacation one year, and I stopped there because they said they serve Egyptian food and I've never had Egyptian food. The food I picked was called chicken kusharia.
It was grilled chicken with a tamarind sauce on top of a bed of rice and a slightly crunchy chickpeas. The dish had the aroma of patchouli, which is not something I associate with food.
It was an experience. From the very first bite, it was like I was very present in the moment. Each and every single bite had a new flavor, a new twist to it. There was like lemon juice and lime juice and side salad and one of the best hummus sides I've ever had in my life.
If I just stuck with plain, ordinary fast food because I was on vacation, I never would have gotten to experience that.
my amazing surprise recommendation doesn't seem that crazy but the summer before last a new ice cream parlor opened up next to my favorite sushi place and i decided i'd get a little treat after my lunch. i had the wild idea of making not a rootbear float nor an orange creamsicle float but a bizarre fruity bastardization float with rainbow sherbet in this locally bottled lime soda. it looked radioactive and tasted like an industrial disaster but, like, in a good way.
This comment has the synesesthetic flavor of Skittles and type 2 diabetes
good work, I was terrified for the rest of the comment after you mentioned sushi right after ice cream
To be fair the sushi place also does some hibachi dishes and noodles, and what i had gotten that time was this fancy ramen they do. I remember it only because that was the day I saw superman 2025 and i really loved that movie ;3
Solid and timely film!!
tasted like an industrial disaster but, like, in a good way.
...ladies
Not a restaurant but I feel like I've tried about everything from the fridge or pantry on a peanut butter sandwich.
Banana fluffernutter is as awesome as it sounds. Pickles are weird but not exactly bad. Jellybeans are kinda good, or maybe I'm weird. Peanut butter pepperoni is surprisingly good. But I especially love savory applications of peanuts (like OMG a good satay) so what you should really try is curry powder and a fried egg with scallions on your PB sandwich.
Just get the regular eggs Benedict. The California benedict adds nothing.
This is such a good idea but I think my picky autistic palette wouldn't be able to handle it :(
That's totally fine. Do what works best for you.
Always pick the scariest thing on the menu.
Unless it's fugu and you don't have 110% confidence in the chef 😁
If I remember correctly most deaths in Japan happen because the deceased went to a restaurant that sells fugu liver which is illegal in Japan.
Also I’ve tried fugu before. It’s expensive and definitely not worth it over regular sushi.
If I remember correctly most deaths in Japan happen because the deceased went to a restaurant that sells fugu liver
Most fugu-related deaths in Japan or the majority of ALL deaths in Japan? 😉
Im pretty sure its some type of disease that kills us the most. Not some obscure ass food ingredient.
I live with the consequence of buying two drinks, usually. Maybe not with $45 meals.
One time hanging out with my dear friend at the mall she said "I wanna go to the cheesecake factory. Its not very good, but sometimes I want bad food, ya know?"
It was in the shopping center and I had never been, so bewildered and curious I agreed. The food was fucking abysmal. I don't think I've ever had worse restaurant food honestly.
Their artichoke is good. Maybe the only great thing there but it's so good I learned to make it at home, even though it's an enormous pain in the ass to make.
I’ll try anything twice.
how i came to love drinking Guinness. The first drink was nasty but by the time i finished the second there were aspects of the flavor that i couldn't detect earlier that suddenly came through, and i've enjoyed it ever since.
That's what my partner says!
Yeah I like trying weird foodstuff and recipes at least once and I hate wasting food. so if it's something I don't like I'll just finish it because it's wasteful otherwise.
Well, yes and no. It's good to order new food! But if you gave it a fair chance and still don't like it then you shouldn't force it down your throat
My family's motto growing up was "Eat all mistakes." It mostly applied to not wasting food, even if you messed it up. So when I baked cookies in the oven after my mom made a roast, but forgot to turn the temperature down and burned the shit out of them, I had to eat them all. Stuff like that. It really taught me to pay more attention, and appreciate when food was good, even if it wasn't my favorite.
Nowadays I use it for a lot of things - if I decide to watch a show that ends up not being great, I'll eat my mistake and finish the season before dropping it. If I start a hobby that I end up not being as motivated to do as I initially thought I'd be, I eat my mistake and use up the materials I bought before stopping.
It both gives me an opportunity to make sure I really don't like something before I give up on it, and also trains me to not dive too deep into something before I know whether I'm going to enjoy it.
Sunk cost fallacy.
I agree with you, but with shows I would say they already eat too much time so I learned to trust my gut, if it is bad after one or two episodes, I will waste my time with something else. Maybe that's also why in general I avoid shows in recent years. I prefer self-contained content. A series were every episode is its own thing with little or no overarching plot line. Like Columbo series which I love.
Gotta punish those neurons. Little bastards must be made to learn one way or another
Worst drink I ever ordered was matcha with hazelnut sryup at dunkin donuts
I love that matcha is more widely available but maybe Dunkins matcha means that it’s too widely available? Dunkins can be trusted with few things, flavored iced coffee, iced tea …. I think that’s it. They don’t even make good donuts anymore, unless you go to the ONE TRUE DUNKINS that still makes donuts in house.
Good for her! I think more people need to love with the consequences of their actions.
Don't you dare edit your comment ❤️
Loving With Chronic Typo Syndrome, an autobiographu
Sonic at one point had a big ad campaign that you could put anything you want in any drink. I bought a strawberry slushy with chocolate syrup in it. Took one drink, cringed, and threw it away. Not my proudest moment.
When I was like 7, I figured that since orange soda tastes good and cocoa tastes good, mixing cocoa powder in orange soda would taste good.
I was proved wrong very quickly and developed a phobia for orange+chocolate for a decade.
No Terry's Chocolate oranges for you I guess?
Terry loves chocolate oranges.
When I was in my early 20’s I had the idea for what I called a “Cannonball,” a Red Bull with a shot of espresso. If it hadn’t tasted so bad, I probably would have died from a heart attack.
I heard that start up tech bros were making cold brew with red bull. Or maybe it was crazy gamers. Definitely some type of bro, though.
At a similar age I was at a buffet restaurant with some friends and had a similar thought about 7-up and chicken noodle soup.
That restaurant must have fucking hated us.
Glad she figured that one out before the gasoline fight
ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO
yeah so like my mind goes there too, i've had those chocolate oranges and they were amazing and i loved orange creamsicles so you'd think that if something goes good with chocolate and cream it'd go good with other things that also go good with chocolate and cream
BUT IT DOES NOT AT ALL D:
I believe it was Babish, who tried to make orange mocha frappacinos, and he couldn't. It's such a bonkers combination
I'm the same way, but only because I would get beat by my dad for not finishing my food.
I used to not be able to leave the table until they could press on my stomach and feel how "full" I was. I used to force myself to eat until I was ready to puke. So now it takes a conscious effort as an adult to stop eating when I'm full.
The thing is, some light roasted single-origin coffees can be fruity in flavour without adding anything, and they’re delicious.
In particular, blueberry is a highly sought after tasting note in Ethiopian coffee.
But Ethiopian coffee hasn’t been as good as it was 10 or so years ago unfortunately.
As a couple examples I’m currently brewing…
Very fruity. And very delicious.
That logo… looks like the worlds worst formula1 track, or the large R is doing horrible things to the little R.
I mean, I think it’s supposed to be PCR (Pilot Coffee Roasters) as a single line basically. But yeah, that’s totally fair.
I had an orange latte once it was pretty good only I asked for less sweet and unfortunately all thr sweet came from the orange syrup apparently so it was barely orange at all. Like mfer I asked for orange if I wanted less orange I would have said less orange
A classic Orange Joe.
Ironically coffee is fruit.
I think, maybe, if you could put a really small amount of citrus it would work. It works for Picard.
Like squish an orange peel over the beans type of thing.
I think I'm going to try it.
There was a coffee shop in Pensacola, FL called Leisure Club that had an orange latte. Shit was absolutely amazing. They made their own syrup for it, so idk what the secret was, but I was there all the time until I finished college.
Probably oleosaccharin rather than juice
Report back
Yeah, a bit of orange peel squish. I can kind of more smell it than taste it in the back of the throat, but it sort of brightened the whole coffee.
Not bad. I tried this with and iced coffee with sweetened oat milk. I may try it again.
Really need to try it right next to some regular to see if I can actually tell it's there or not.
I've put orange peel in the top of a mocha pot before to get the same effect
My hypothesis is this is tolerable for iced coffee but it would be too much with hot coffee. I feel like the scent alone would be too strong.
What, how is this unpopu-ooooh America
And that was the moment she became enlightened.
*enheavened, drinking coffee adds weight duh
;-)
Nah, pretty sure that you become enheavened by appearing in romance novels. Or rather, your bosom does.
Engorged.
Tumescent.
Turgid.
I currently drink a speciality coffee that tastes like melon. I think it is awesome.
I would have to wash the taste off my mouth with a shot of brandy, a line of gunpowder and a cigar
I can see the logic Coffee is typically used as a flavour enhancer for dark and milk chocolate.
Orange flavour goes great with dark and milk choc
Therefore, it should work with cappuccino.
This isn't about covfefe, is it?
Energy drink coffee
imo coffee is so utterly disgusting it doesn't matter what you put in it. You could piss in a cup of coffee and it wouldn't taste any worse.
It might improve the aroma though.
Peanut butter instant coffee latte
Staaaahp
Savory flavors, OTOH... Garlic and Caramelized Onion coffee. Mmm mmm mmm! 🤤
Furries act like they are reasonable people online then come up with this shit.
What the fuck are you on?
Savory flavors, OTOH... Garlic and Caramelized Onion coffee. Mmm mmm mmm! 🤤
these are the people I have to share a highway with
I mean...fully carmalized onions are pretty sweet. They take something like an hour to make, but if you added a cheese foam to the coffee, you could have a really interesting, earthy drink.
It would still taste like shit, but it would be interesting.
Bro just drink something else. Maybe a broth.
Is coffee not a broth? 🤔
I was going to say Bovril, or I guess I should have said stock.
Furries act like they are reasonable people online
Do they?
Most/some of the time, the vast majority of them do, yeah.
Like most hobbies and predilections, only the truly unhinged and/or severely annoying ones make it their entire personality 🤷🏻
I suppose if you know they're a furry outside a furry space, they incline toward the extreme.
What an odd question, given that you are replying to exactly what they are on.
I'm on Lemmy. Crushing up shitposts and snorting 'em. 😤
Sounds good, lemmy try that too
Nurse? Nurse! They've escaped again. Yes, you'd better bring the dried frog pills and the big net, but maybe we can tempt them back with the smell of shudder garlic and caramelized onion coffee.
Café Borgias are delicious. 🥰
Coffee with a bit of chocolate with orange in it, which is nice, would actually make me think that a bit of orange syrup in coffee would work as well.
Full respect.
I think some people view coffee from shops as paying for… the experience? The barista offering to make her something else. But I'm like that lady - I made the choice, I live with the consequences. lol. Nobody made her order that. But it was nice to be offered the remake. But I also probably wouldn't've taken it. lol. Just… remembered for next time. hehe
That said, I think some coffee shops do price their coffee more on the "experience" than the product/taste… heh.
SE Asia has orange coffee on the menu
