I watched the footage and I saw one (1) injured person, who was helped away from the scene by other civilians without the military intervening. The comments are obviously still treating it like a video of an execution by firing squad and getting self righteous because they know that their country would never do something like that on film.
But for real I hope none of the bicycles were seriously hurt
Lime bikes left in annoying places mean a Londoner died
Huh, neat. So what's the deal with the CCP (supposedly- idk if it's true) banning mention of tiananmen square? Is it in actuality just an effort to suppress a disinformation campaign, and the claim that they ban any mention of it is propaganda to support said disinfo campaign?
Iirc people in China refer to it as The June 4th Incident and get taught about in in schools, someone who knows more about it could give you more in depth info though
Disinformation and anti-party agitation, yes. Of course, what they view as "disinformation" may be different from how you view it, but you are correct that the idea of any mention of it being banned is made up and as the other commenter said it is taught about in schools there. It is certainly a sore spot for the Party in some respects, but there's no use in trying to construct a false reality where nothing happened when it has lots of documentation including a large number of instances of it being publicly addressed on Chinese state media and in international discourse.
The stance of the Party, which I think is broadly correct, is that most of the protestors were innocent and not involved in anything nefarious, but some treasonous individuals took advantage of the protests to try to instigate a counterrevolution (this is documented fact), proactively engaged in violence against the PLA (documented fact), and in the process of trying to crush this opposition force there were a number of innocent people (both manipulated protestors and total bystanders) who were caught in the crossfire, many of them tragically dying. That said, the vast majority of the protestors dispersed with the initial dispersal order and the bulk of the remainder were dispersed without a shot being fired*, and the PLA were only shooting after that point (to the best of my knowledge, this is also a documented fact).
*some people were hit with batons to make them move, and I assume in some cases people were pushed or manhandled, but that's the extent of the violence at that stage as far as I know.
So there's a combination of things that are literally just true and some parts that are matters of one's interpretation of the evidence.
Edit: It is also simply true that no one died in the Square itself, and while this seems like absurd hair-splitting (and sometimes it is), the importance of this claim is that it discredits certain myths of people who claimed to see people killed and mutilated in the Square itself. People were killed, as already mentioned, it just happened elsewhere.
It's taught as part of the mandatory "outline of modern Chinese history" at university.
turns out you can just make shit up about China, and most westerners are incurious chauvinists so you can usually get away with it
if ~~the bbc~~ any br*t had footage of the "massacre" why wasn't it published sooner? Weird that there's photographic evidence of PLA soldiers being murdered but no footage of all the claims of running over people with tanks and hosing the remains into the sewer....
That story is made up just like you imply, but it is worth noting there is at least one picture of someone rolled over with a tank. I don't really know what the situation was, presumably just the army advancing and incidentally rolling over someone who died in a gunfight just prior . . . I wonder if they were a bystander or one of the guerrillas, though.
Love how none of these bikes have bloodstains but they're all proof of murder
theyre gonna think amsterdam is conducting a genocide every day around noon when everyone leaves their bikes for lunch
Again, we have to bring up the 1989 Spring and Summer unrest, the June 4th incident, the 'Tiananmen Square Massacre' - this is not really recent news footage, let alone any news
Here's a deprogram thread on it
Here's the Qiao Collective's reading list on it
Also, I'm going to be self-promoting some documentaries on this incident, made by CCTV, Chinese public news programs, which I and death have subtitled
The Test of Blood and Fire: CCTV full documentary on June 4th incident - TankieTube 53:40 Episode 2
Fly High, Flag of the Republic —A True Account of Suppressing the Counter-Revolutionary Riot (Tiananmen) - TankieTube 46:40 Episode 3
death? i knew communism was evil!
You laugh, but those bikes were just two days from retirement.
This website won't decide if it's pro-bike or anti-bike. Pathetic.
we're pro bike but we can take a joke
The british cables that said no massacre occured? Those british cables? The ones that have been public for decades? Those ones? Fucking libs are unreachable, living in their own reality.
Good thing the US state has never done anything hostile to its own civilian populace, or this obsession with an unpopular protest that ended violently in a foreign country almost 40 years ago would be really weird and hypocritical

I saw one (1) injured person, who was helped away from the scene by other civilians without the military intervening.
Yeah I often wonder what exactly libs are seeing when they watch this footage. Do they really think this is footage of a massacre? Do they see all the abandoned bicycles and just imagine a bunch of corpses among them to satisfy the expectation they went in with?
As far as I can tell the one injured guy injured himself, too. He just fell. It sounded like maybe there was gunfire somewhere and everyone panicked and hit the ground, and this guy just fell wrong.
Yeah I often wonder what exactly libs are seeing when they watch this footage
Almost none of them watch the footage, or they watch the shortest snippet of Tank Man or whatever. Genuinely, they treat it as evidence without the barest effort to understand its content.
Yeah I often wonder what exactly libs are seeing when they watch this footage.
The actual contents of the video are irrelevant. The real purpose of their words is to signal compliance and loyalty to Western chauvinism and white supremacy.
those sneaky chinese took away all the bodies and cleaned all the blood before cameras could capture them.
Doing hemaphrenology to explain that Asiatic blood is translucent to analog film.
It's foreign
The comments are obviously still treating it like a video of an execution by firing squad and getting self righteous because they know that their country would never do something like that on film.
Meanwhile we're about to have a public execution around Christmas.
i mean i wouldn't hold it against them if they publicly offed billionaires
:McBain-that’s-the-joke:
But yeah since that news came out I've decided I never want to hear American geopolitics libs say shit about fuck ever again, on the internet or otherwise
13.3k upvotes in 50 minutes, nothing fishy there
