I been showering for no reason.

This whole line of argument takes it as a given that no one should be cleaner than medically necessary. Bathe you dirty animals! Don't you like to feel clean? Isn't the grime itchy? Much of modernity sucks shit actually but modern sanitation and hygiene are genuine triumphs over the conditions of the past! Use them!
showering is virtue signalling
Showering is bourgeois
I mean you'd hope I showered regularly given how often I'm shitting these pants
I gotta take a shower every time one of these FUCKIN LIBS shits my pants
It isn't performative if there is a psychological benefit. Which you know, there definitely is.
unless you do physical labor and sweating all day, you don't need to shower everyday.
Even if you don't do physical labour, you still probably sweat and still build up body odour (sweating isn't just in response to physical strain, there's stress sweat and just normal excretion). There's also urine and fecal matter from normal toileting. It smells. You can become nose-blind to these smells since your nose filters them out if you're in close proximity. Same as how pet owners will insist their house doesn't smell of pet but people without them can tell the instant they step in the door
This has been known for a while. Showering daily is, if anything, kinda odd compared to most humans unless you actually get dirty.
I'm every other day unless I worked up a sweat, then immediately after.
These insistent experts clearly haven't been exercising every day like they should smh
There's definitely a health benefit to not being a sweaty stanky mess when you climb into bed
I don't really sweat when I work out unless it's super hot. I mean maybe a little, like the same baseline micro-sweating you do when sedentary. But nothing noticeable.
We can't all have superpowers! I sweat on the car ride to the gym lmao
i think people tell on themselves when they say shit like this. Like YOU may start to smell like shit as soon as you hit 23 hours without a shower, but not me and frankly not anyone I've ever known unless they were heavily sweating at any point during the day or otherwise partaking in a smelly activity
i think people tell on themselves when they say shit like this.
At least the people saying this are aware of their body odour and are showering, so why is this a bad thing. This is just circling back to shaming people for their odour when they already have it in-hand
At least the people saying this are aware of their body odour and are showering, so why is this a bad thing.
Because they insist it's the same for everyone and force performative showering
Shower schedule struggle session
This is so embarrassing. Of all the things to fight about
Bathing: Never. Done, sesh over

Nothing beats showering in the evening and then lying in a clean bed fully naked, if I go to sleep unshowered it feels kinda yucky.
That's one thing I don't do, sleep naked, the ONLY times I do is the dog days of summer where it's like 80 F at night and I have the fan on me. Otherwise it's undies and a nice comfy t-shirt for me.
I've done daily showers, but it was cold showers for 3 minutes tops and it was to help with my dissociation and some other issues. Honestly, I kind of miss them, had to stop when my copper levels got to high and made me super susceptible to cold temperatures.
You'll pry my goat milk soap from my cold dead but smooth hands
How tf you smelling like garbage after 24 hours? If you got sweaty that’s one thing but one day doesn’t turn ya sedentary ass into actual trash
I run hotter than most people and also work in a warehouse so I'm pretty much always at least a little sweaty any time outside of later autumn or winter. If I don't shower regularly I smell like ass.
Depends on the person, and the season. In the winter I can go a few days without showering before I start stinking, but that’s a dicier proposition in the summer.
I shower 2-3 times a day. For 2 mins each
2 min?? do you have alopecia?
Ah, its more like 5 mins the session I wash my hair. I do it 3 times a week.
Humans have odors and stigmatizing them is doing the work of capitalism.
What an absolutely reactionary and uninformed take. Like, showering everyday probably doesn't have a direct health benefit, and in fact it is damaging to your hair to shampoo it every day, but perfumes, unguents, bathing habits, and general cleaniness, as well as a general public disagreement with strong body odors has been a thing since well before capitalism has been a thing.
There is a good goddamn reason that frankincense and myrrh were part of the royal gifts supposedly given to the infant Jesus by the wise men. They were ritual perfumes, as good or different smells that have been associated with divinity forever. Unfortunately, the stigmatization of smell has much less to do with capitalism, and much more to do with enculturated practices that extend far deeper than capitalism. Capitalism absolutely takes advantage of that stigmatization, but it is not the cause of it, which means that socialism is simply the first step in addressing it, not a solution in of itself.
Nah, I disagree. Most human cultures have practiced regular or semi-regular bathing , to different extents, but this whole idea that we just naturally smell fine in our "state of nature" is largely BS. The whole idea that medieval people only bathed once a year is misinfo, most large medieval towns had bathhouses and we have illustrations of people bathing in rivers and ponds from that period. Even our paleolithic ancestors probably dipped themselves in rivers after a hot day so they don't stink up the longhouse.
Well, it seems obvious to me that the point is not "never showering", but that the human body is likely not properly evolved to shower every single day, especially with soap + shampoo + deodorant. There is an arguable extent of natural body odour which should be normalized, and people likely, for health reasons, shouldn't be applying soap and germicides on their armpits daily as we (myself included) do.
Well. Except for that period when Europeans believed bathing let "bad airs" into your skin and made you sick.
Yes, and there's some historical evidence that it actually made people MORE sick.
Jewish and Muslim communities weren't nearly hit as hard by the Black Death than Christian ones, and it's theorized it's because Judaism and Islam requires regular ritual bathing. Turns out it's important to wash your penis.
do not get addicted to showering every day, it will take hold of you and that water could have been used for data centers
As a naturally sweaty person, the health benefit of daily showering is that my spouse doesn't make me sleep outside in a makeshift nest.
Still remember the first time I found out there were people who didn't wash regularly
I was an effete boy of 8, one who washed twice a day and when I told my classmates that, I was told that I was "gay" for liking to be clean
i bet you washed your hands too. like some kind of weirdo who doesn't follow RFK's Podcast where we learn that regular sanitation and hygiene were invented by Big Shower.
You know, there is endemic COVID out there. You should put your outside clothes a in a plastic bag or wash them and then shower as soon as you come home from the outside. You plage rats.
I don't think it can go from airborne to surface to airborne again
It can live in surfaces for 2-3 weeks if it's in a dark place. You are also constantly touching your face and your clothing subconsciously, as well as sniffing, puting your nose on your arm when you sneeze, etc. why risk it. Cleaning your mouth on your shoulder, etc.
are you being sarcastic? Covid is still a pandemic which makes me think you're not being serious
It's endemic, as is in some places malaria. This does not mean you should be less careful, it means you should be more careful, because endemic diseases, such as malaria, are some of the only forces that can exert selection pressure on us.
I sincerely and honestly take the precautions described above.
Endemic means it's not going away.
COVID is an airborne respiratory virus, though? Unless something changed within the past 2 years that I do not know about, not much from masking and vaccines can help with it. It's why it's such a big deal to get that nasal vaccine breakthrough.
Vaccines and masks, sure. I think the thing that helps most, is not going to restaurants, there are a bunch of unmasked people there spiting in each other's faces and food.
But I can't get the vaccines where I live, so I have to take every precaution, and if my hair and clothes are covered in aerosols from outside, I better take measures.
Fair enough.
I apologize for assuming. There's been a ton of infuriating discourse around this lesbian bar mask thing that my guard is wayyyy up right now.
Not at all I should thank you. I think Its always good to clarify, if someone read your response and that motivated them to take precautions, that is a small but helpful change. Nagging people about COVID is in everyone's best interests.
Showering was invented by Big Soap after they saw how Gillette got dudes to shave.
Gonna show my ass on this one but I shower once a week, it's bad I know, it doesn't help that the hot water is busted in the house when I turn it on the pressure is low in my place.
I was waiting for someone to volunteer how little they shower. I know y'all nasty.
I know I will do better. I do wear deodorant.
If someone doesn't work a physical job I don't think they need to shower every day. Then beyond that some people don't sweat or stink as much. It's fine
I have a similar cadence, usually about a week. Reducing from daily showering (or multiple a day when I biked to work) has been a game changer for my hair and skin tbh.
I generally just shower when its needed vs a specific cadence. That could mean daily showers in the summer during heat waves but generally once a week works really well for me.
Same.
I really do think our skin microbiome (it's not just in our gut!) tends to find a good balance if given the chance to do so. People who shower every day or more have a skin biome that is used to getting purged on the regular and will start getting out of control as soon that rhythm is broken, which makes the person stink. Then that person thinks that's just a straight fact "if people don't shower often, they stink!" But as usual, it's more complicated than that.
@SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net, don't let anyone tell you you're "nasty" for not showering more often, you just have a healthier skin microbiome than they do.
Thanks, that does make me feel a bit better!
(Only replace the floating hearts with stinky waves. j/k ;)
lol but you're right tho I do not smell most of the time, there's days I do have bo from my pits so I lather up in deodorant. Since I'm home and not doing anything taxing on my body, it's kind of a waste to hop in the shower for nothing. Now granted if I need to be out in public the next day I usually do.
Literally same. It takes at least several days for me to start becoming a little odiferous, even if I've been doing some light physical work. But everyone has some odor to them, as they should, since it is of course natural and healthy. Hell, it is even one of the things that has attracted people to each other throughout the ages. As has been said, capitalism latched onto that as it does everything else that makes us human, and told us we had to buy products to attract people with scent, and then buy products just to keep from offending people by our scent!
I'm not around people much anymore I admit, so it usually doesn't matter either way, (but even when I did live with a partner and only showered 1-2 x / week, I was never told I needed to take one). But when I do have to go out like to run errands in town, that is when I make sure I'm cleaned up, meaning a shower beforehand.
You shouldn't wash your hair every time you shower anyway. I shower 2-3 times per week but only wash my hair once per week. Any more and it gets too dry and lifeless. I just rinse it well on days I don't wash it.
I noticed the exact same thing with my skin.
yes in the summer I do shower more often due to the heat, but in the colder months it's about once a week. I guess my skin is pretty soft? What little hair I have left on my head is soft too, I guess.
that doesn't sound like my problem
