My hope is that I can become financially stable before my body gives out. I would really like to travel places, but my body is already feeling it and I'm out of my 20's.
get exercise, people. Doesn't have to be a lot, the body is just incredibly lazy and will merrily get rid of your ability to walk if you don't regularly remind it you still need muscles.
I just ride my bike everywhere it's possible and try to go for a 30 minute walk at least every other day.
I'm 30 and never had back issues. Either it doesn't take a lot of movement so stay reasonably healthy or I'm very lucky. (Or my back will kill me in 5 years)
Or you're lucky and don't have a spine problem that has nothing to do with how much exercise you get...
Like, exercise definitely helps. But the amount of effort some people need to do to be pain free is very different from person to person.
My back issues started with adolescence 😭
Same tbh. My feet were apparently messed up for years and it left me with severe pelvic tilt and really bad back problems that I'm still trying to correct. Discovered them in my 20s and I've been trying to correct it for over a decade and it's still really bad. Better than it was, but still horrendous.
Stretches first thing in the morning help
IMO top ways to support your back if you spend loads of time sitting:
all of the above only work with proper technique tho
My physical therapist told me “movement is medicine” and I hate that she was right, because a lot of the time it feels like shit to do!
I had messed up arches when I was little and the doctors didn't want to do anything about it for the longest time. At like 25 I get a script for PT for really bad back pain and learn that APPARENTLY I have to entirely relearn how to walk because I basically built the entire fucking house on a crocked foundation and now my back is fucked. It's been over 10 years since then and I still haven't fully corrected my pelvic tilt and my back still hurts if I walk more than like ten minutes at a time.
I’m sorry, that sounds awful to deal with! PT didn’t really ‘fix’ me either, I still struggle with the pain I went in for, but the exercises and stretches they taught me at least tend to help me keep the worst of it away. I hope the exercises they’ve got you doing give you some relief!
They definitely do help yeah, they're the only reason I've gotten to where I am. My pain used to be a lot worse and I used to be a lot more limited in what I could do. I need to be a little more consistent about them, but that's mostly just an "It's been hectic" thing. I can usually do a set here or there in random places throughout the day. That's usually how I'd get them in because they're all just random bodyweight exercises which is nice.
Here to pose the viewpoint that at 30 the spine isn't old, just crushed under the weight of gravity and hasn't evolved for 2 legged monkeys yet!
also hasn't evolved for sitting around all day
My spine has always been old, yay mild scoliosis!
your back be like (warning, r*ddit link, though with a privacy-respecting frontend)
