Side note: I hate that medical seems to exclude audiological, optical, and dental, yet they're attached to the person, which should be medical.

I live near an area where they go to vacation. Multimillion dollar literal mansions with separate housing for their pools/guests, on huge properties and they literally have people they pay to live in the house because they only actually use it 2-3 weeks a year...
Friend of mine has that gig, lives in some rich guys woods compound through the winter. Except he's pretty much cut off from society outside the Internet, starlink has been a huge blessing up there. Place is a 4 hour snowmobile ride from the nearest gas station.

For someone who's poor? $10k would solve a lot of problems. Poor people already know how to stretch a dollar. Having 10k of them to stretch could go a long way.
Legit therapy is what I dream about when the odd "what if I won the lottery I don't play" thought comes to me. I've tried twice to get it through my governments supposed "free healthcare" only to be turned away.
First time, when I was a kid, I was just fat and needed to excersize and thus didn't need any mental health help. The second, while skinny now, required me to atleast try acupuncture and reiki before I got a recommendation to a therapist. When I refused, they stated it couldn't be that bad if I wasn't willing to try and they walked out.
If I had money I wouldn't need to convince some shitty doctor to recommend me to a mental health specialist I could just, you know, pay one.
Zero hate to those who are helped by reiki or acupuncture but that's not what I need. That will not help me, personally, and no I don't think that doing so would have gotten me to a real mental health professional. I know if it failed and I went back to that doctor they'd blame me, say try again, then I'd be back where I was before.
Therapy is amazing, it's well worth it, but a lot of insurance covers it. States usually have some sort of program where you can receive services at no cost too, check with your state

Same doctor suggested acupuncture for a friends diabetic neuropathy so you know it's kinda just their vibe. They went through with it though. Unsurprisingly no help but they did get the recommendation to a pain specialist.
There was literally a doctor nearby who didn't have a medical license. Not the same one to be clear. Decades spent with their own office as a family doctor turns out they quit real medical school and got a veterinarians degree. Moved over here, started a practice with their brother, went out on their own. Nobody noticed. I mean with the standard for care here I disagree with the idea that they were underqualified. I'd go to a different doctor. If that's not an option, I'd probably say something along these lines.
I don't want to experiment with woo bullshit. I want real mental health support. The fact that you're directing me towards pseudoscientific treatment in lieu of real medicine tells me that you aren't interested in my health.
And they will politely ask you to leave, unfortunately.
People talk about affording healthcare but nobody thinks about the other problem that is smart doctors being for the rich and dumb doctors being for the poor.
You think those straight A med students are working at your local hospital? LOL! No, we get the doctors who got Ds and Cs who will take your temperature and tap your leg but have no skillset outside of the basics. They only wanted to be doctors because their families told them to or because they were told they'd make good money.
The rich? They get the best doctors there is. They have the money. Any issue they have, they can go to the best doctor and probably get it figured out immediately. Compared to the regular person, who gets referral after referral after referral because the doctors for us have no fucking idea what they're doing. Gets told to take meds that aren't even related to the problem. Gets told their symptoms "shouldn't be possible".
Probably unnecessary, just wanted to get this thought out there because I never see anyone talking about it and these are problems I've experienced first-hand.

I didn't call every doctor dumb. I'm saying the ones us regular people get are more likely to be dumb. The rich get the ones who have proven they're not dumb. There are doctors who barely pass medical school... Where do you think they work...? Why would a doctor who graduated from Harvard valedictorian or whatever work at a small town hospital? They're going to work for a huge ass hospital in a huge ass city making huge ass money from huge ass clients. I just think it's common sense in a world where the rich want the poor to suffer.

It should be hard. You're training to be a fucking doctor, with the ability to diagnose people with lifelong conditions. With the experience I've had with many medical professionals, maybe they should make them even harder. Obviously they're not hard enough because every PCP, specialist, PT, etc. I've seen has said there's nothing wrong with me which is completely fucking false, and if they were a real doctor, who wanted to help their patients with their medical issues, they would work with me until they could figure it out.
I'm not hating on emergency services, nurses, etc. I'm hating on the people in the world that have dedicated their lives to the profession of helping others, only to sidestep and defer patients while still getting that doctor's paycheck. I'm hating on the people who are doctors for the title, not the job satisfaction. The doctors who ask you the same questions when they know you've been referred over and over and over.

That explains so goddamn much! My doctor has not help me in years. Once went in for arm pains he just said "your old" and "i get them too". No solutions. But keeps wanting to draw blood and order me on medication I don't need for shit I don't have.
Am ready to switch doctor but guess that won't fix the issues.
I had a lot of family in big pharma and the situation is just fucked in general for western medicine. They priortize any treatment that is profitable, and the science follows the money more than the data.
You can mostly rely on yourself for your health these days, which means diet, sleep, exercise, and staying away from drugs and alcohol. Doctors literally are lied to about medications, and are pressured to prescribe them with threat of malpractice lawsuits.
It's way worse than most people realize. Even the smart doctors are going to give you shitty treatments.
Apart from curing diseases like syphilis with antibiotics, and modern vaccines, modern medicine is fucked.
I once had a specialist refuse to do any type of treatment or exploration of my condition because it wasn't severe enough for him to operate and that's far more profitable.
The regular doctor couldn't do anything, the specialist didn't care. I found better solutions online
