Media is so captured and monitored that there will never be an openly acknowledged depression again in the west. Did you notice how the "Great Recession" was very latterly coined and still is generally not used/analyzed in a serious way? How economic contraction during covid was never characterized as recession or depression despite being a dictionary definition of such? The only framing allowed in public discourse is how it harmed the profitability of firms; the heaps of dead, indebted, disabled, and imiserrated proles are silent.
e: notice how Europe's economy directly contracted and has continued to contract due to breaking with Russia? is that a recession?
The only reason we talk about a "Great Depression" is because there was a class consciousness strong enough to break with an analysis of the crash being Business As Usual that forced the capitalists to acknowledge it and work around it.
