I used to love playing online PC games but it has been about 20 years ago now. I remember back in the day in Counter-strike and similar games you would hear a lot of slurs and anti-gay insults, and it struck me as mostly idiot 12 year olds attempting to be edgelords.
Are legit racists now using games as a rally point or is it just seen as a pseudo anonymous place to say cringe edgelord shit like they did 20 years ago?
There is definitely a large demographic of "What's wrong with fascism??" and "I think Hitler was a pretty cool guy" chuds in online games. People like Asmongold are just the most forward facing but they all have pretty similar beliefs.

My favorite online games are shit like Souls games and Death Stranding - overall solitary experiences with mild positive wordless interactions from strangers.
Wonder what % of that is due to Bannon and Epstein.
They were literally having "anti-Horde"/"anti-immigration" rallies in Stormwind in-game, complete with real racial slur analogues for Horde races. Blizzard and Twitch already suck for other reasons, but they're ultra cowards for not perma banning him and all his cave dwelling fans a long time ago. Even other streamers are playing Horde to avoid having to associate with them.
The fantasy racism always gives me some side-eye at this point, like it's very easy for the people that get way too excited about how much they hate gnomes to translate.
As a thing in fiction that serves as a crude allegory for IRL racism it usually adds some flavor to the setting because people do be racist
But yeah these guys are absolutely using it as a substitute
I don't think it's always bad and sometimes just poking fun, like "haha silly orcs how dare you think you could beat me", but when someone makes it their whole roleplay gimmick or says stuff like that all the time, it's for sure a red flag. Like humans hating undead is a strongly established thing, so being an anti-undead zealot fits the setting. But these people are the equivalent of Elder Scrolls fans calling Argonians and Khajit "farm tools" because they're enslaved by the Dunmer in-game. In this case, all their terms were similar to stuff like "wireback" being used for AI/robots by Star Wars people not that long ago.
And it's hard to call them out because so much of it is already in the text, they can always claim they're just playing along. I remember a couple of Blood Elf /jokes:
"We're allies with the Tauren? Fantastic! We'll be having steak twice a week."
"So I was in the Undercity the other day and this Forsaken woman asks me if I want a facial. I said, 'You don't have a lower jaw, and you want to give me a facial?' HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
These people aren't roleplaying, it's always about gnomes, and while I don't always think they're doing anything except participating in a fairly common trope that's existed in WoW communities for probably a couple decades it's also regularly used as code for their actual prejudice against Jewish people.
And they’re oddly enough always people who think Israel is the heckin’ most wholesome country ever and if you dare think they can do any wrong, you’re antisemitic!
This group is becoming smaller and smaller. Chuds generally don't like Israel anymore.
I did have one guy last week try to tell me that Epstein not only wasn't a Mossad agent but actually supported Palestine but that's seemingly an aberration nowadays
it's my view that failure to punish shitheads is a result of mods and staff being part of said shitheads on their personal time (see also: ~~slavecatchers~~ ~~peace officers~~ police at protests)

I haven't played retail WoW in a long time but the current private server I'm on I found a guild with several trans people and assume that's a strong litmus test for not having to listen to reactionaries
