JohnnyEnzymeI know, most news seems to be about the USA these days, and yeah, it's embarrassing at times. Hahaha... yeah, a maybe a lot of the times. Sorry, world.
BUT... NYC is also the same place an arguable fraud and grifter (mayor Giuliani) took credit for the 9/11 response not so long ago, even as he completely betrayed the first responders... which is a whole book in itself.
NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani is an Indian guy born in Uganda. I don't know much more than that frankly, but to me it's like adding on to the landslide of all the greatness that came from creative immigrants to the USA. Without them, this whole nation would have completely stalled in the 18th century, FWIW.
As for Nika Kovač:

Do bear in mind that in the US at the national level, we have been taken over by fascism. It takes a super-majority to be able to get stuff done if our oligarchs don't like something, and considering that the Republicans and the establishment Democrats make up a supermajority, yes, very little is getting done.
But at the same time, the fascists want you to attribute that to the entire system or to all politicians and write them all off - because the ONLY threat right now would be progressive Democrats, who do not have enough to control the party, much less everywhere.
CASE IN POINT: NYC is an example of what happens when progressives are in control.
So the lesson should not just be "all politicians suck", it should be "elect more people like Mamdani" AKA progressives.
You have to be careful not to let your cynicism HELP the fascists fucking win.
This is how the "ratchet effect" has moved the Overton Window so far to the right, voting for the "lesser of two evils" every election cycle.
But don't you know that people like Mamdani are unelectable? /s
This also makes it clear that they want exactly the opposite, because when people struggle to survive they don't have time to make themselves heard .
