What did they do?
Changed their EULA to claim ownership of new technologies developed on the Pi. Or something to that effect, it's been a while.
Probably because of the RAM lockdown thing, their firmware blocks unauthorized RAM components. They say it’s because scammers bought pis, replaced the ram with a shitty alternative and resold them. The non-malicious tinkerers and repair-enthusiasts obviously hate this for good reason.
