And that's why you don't teach lessons to your son!

We'll see who's laughing when Grandpa can't find his meds.
Nah it’s cool. They are just on silent in the dishwasher. He will find them eventually. Or not 🤷🏻♂️
High boomer energy on this one
I can't wait for the next time this is reposted. This is the new steak rare or well done thread.
Damn, didn't realize Lemmy was so soft.
I'm going to start vending NFT pearl necklaces for the chronically online to virtually clutch. Order now and get a GASP sticker.
Ah classic move. "I disagree with some people and therefore they are bad for being [some word or phrase I pulled from my ass]. They clutch PEARLS! Aren't I so clever? and they're so bad but I'm above that"
Thank you for your order! You complimentary gift badge is attached below.
Oh dear. You kids would have died by regular banter on the old internets.
I barely dare mention it was just a few hours of dial-up screen time a day, on the shared family computer... and only if you did your chores.
So you should really be more tolerant with this irreparable trauma we carry.
I like this internet fight where both parties are being downvoted. Just posting here to get mine too. ❤️
Downvote train! Downvotes for everybody!
A word of advice with the best of intentions:
Don't get so worked up about shit online.
A lazy teen not having access to their phone for some fifteen minutes because they haven't done their chores in four hours isn't the end of the world for them.
It certainly shouldn't push your cortisol levels through the roof either.
For all we know none of this is even true.
What the hell is yaar crepe sweden?
The platform this bot is advertising
I love it. Grandpa is a fucking genius.
Until Grandma comes along and hits "Start" on the dishwasher
I mean.... escalating consequences I suppose
Grandpa is going to end up in one of those retirement homes they showed on 60 Minutes.
Hahaha
We're doing boomer memes now?
That's so innovated! Instead of talking to your kid and helping them understand with compassion and understanding. Traumatizing them is so much better! That way in the future if they forgot to do what the ~~master~~ father says they have anxiety attacks! Brilliant!
Bruh.
If your kid is getting traumatized because she can't find their phone, you need to take it away from them permanently.
Weak
I still get flashback and panic attacks every time I get reminded of how my mum would mush up my carrots to trick me into eating them.
Should sue
I already sued Remon's mom, but i didn't get shit
Yeah, kids would NEVER manipulate their parents.
Welcome to the world. Manipulating other people into doing what we want is the human condition. It's literally all we do.
I'm gonna take your phone
Are you the same person that reply spammed the last time this was posted?
Hiding stuff to teach people a lesson is potentially traumatic and not particularly... Nice? Effective?
Just beat up your children already if you cannot be arsed to parent effectively.
Edit: guess that was a bit off base. But who does this and why is this a win or something to be celebrated? This is bad and harmful parenting to me and should be condemned in an age where we know better.
Not having your phone isn’t traumatic.
Santa Claus
People constantly hiding your shit to teach you a lesson is.
There's a vast difference in psychological impact between doing it periodically or constantly.
One is quite ok and teasingly getting a point across, the other one is abuse.
Especially if you already told them out to immediately find it, they just haven't realized it yet.
On the second hand, you'd have to consider that they might not be able to concentrate on emptying the dishwasher if their phone is missing. That would clock as a higher priority to me and I'm not even a teenager.
If somebody has to "constantly" do something to try to teach you a lesson, maybe you're just too stupid to learn.
👌👍😂😂😂😂😂😂 absolutely fantastic job of broadcasting why you should be nowhere near children. Jesus Christ dude 😂
Right, much better to raise them to not have any responsibility or know how to do anything, because their parents will be there to do everything for them.
This is bad and harmful parenting to me and should be condemned in an age where we know better.
Compared to what?
Quite literally in the age immediately prior to this one, the method of teaching the lesson would've been direct physical punishment of the go-get-me-a-switch variety.

I thought this common sense.
So you saying parents should take things away as punishment, but then you go nuts when a parent/grandparent takes the kid's phone away as punishment? JFC at least be consistent
Taking away things is fine. But consequences should be communicated and expected. Just hiding something to teach them a lesson tends to be ineffective. People are often outraged when parents do such a thing. Well. In particular if those things are a medical necessity such as a inhaler or a even a phone if you have medical devices that use it as an interface.

This is an absolutely ridiculous assumption to make given how little information we're given.
You desperately need to go touch grass right now
This was referring to a different post where someone was complaining about that.
Just pointing out that this is a spectrum and people are stupid.
Uh huh. Sure you did
I read the last article, here's what stood out to me: the importance of stating the consequence in advance, and the importance of there being a logical connection between the "crime and punishment," so to speak.
in addition to making sure your child is old enough to understand this type of consequence, a crucial part of using the tactic of taking something away is that parents should clearly state the punishment upfront.
"The important piece of this approach to discipline is to establish these consequences in advance (i.e. 'if you don't clean up your room, you will lose the ability to play with your LEGOs tonight'). As a reactive form of punishment, taking away privileges seems random and fails to establish the connection between a behavior and a consequence," Fox notes. "When set up in advance, it gives the child a choice — if they don't make their bed, they are choosing to not be allowed to play with their LEGOs. The sooner we set up this sense of accountability, the less discipline we'll have to do over the long term."
Another consideration that experts say can be made in addition to making sure the consequence is outlined ahead of time, is that your child can make the appropriate connection between their actions and the punishment.
"It's very important for parents to make a connection between the behavior and what is being taken away, particularly as a child gets older. For instance, if they fail to obey rules around devices or video games, it makes sense to take those away as punishment," Fox tells Romper. "On the other hand, if they can't be nice to their sister, they don't get to spend time with their friends — this sends the message that if they can't be nice to this person, they don't get to hang out with that person. As parents, you have to make the connection to the consequence for the child because their brain just doesn't yet work that way."
Re: the logical consequence, from my own childhood, in elementary school my teachers and parents came up with a behavioral contract where, if i didn't do my homework, i couldn't play with my friends after school. Since i couldn't fathom ever being able to finish my homework, i just accepted the fact that i couldn't be friends anymore with my friends. I don't think that worked long term.
Since i couldn’t fathom ever being able to finish my homework
But... why? Was it really so onerous?
That's not an acceptable punishment and I am sorry. It's very important for tasks to be manageable.
I believe we were asked to just stop and be done after 30 minutes.
Bad and harmful parenting?
Yeah, he should just tell the kid it's awesome, buy her a new phone and empty the fucking dishwasher himself instead of forcing this grandkids into slavery!
There are effective teaching methods between hiding stuff to cause anguish and coddling your children.
Anguish?
It's a fucking phone.
This is the shit "boomers" talk about when they say "kids today are soft".
Good job proving a "boomer" right.
(Yes, boomer in quotes because it's the kind of shit people like you say).
