Everybody missing the point of green text: it probably didn’t happen. It’s also 4chan. So yeah.

But, DM clearly set a timer on when apocalypse would happen if certain goals weren’t met. Players sought other goals and thus, lost the campaign.

So basically the DM created a world with a natural disaster incoming, and the players decided to instead destroy the indigenous nation, install a new puppet leader that adheres to Western values and voting rights, and ensure gay marriage is legalized even though homosexuality was tolerated in this society, just marriage was a civil and financial issue and not necessarily related.

Who's worse? The DM, or the imperialist players?

Literally doing the same shit the CIA would, and people wonder why this shit happens. It's a bunch of fucks who think that their Western values translate to every culture and is more important than respecting their sovereignty.

what a wild and cynical world you must live in. Just divorced from any joy or whimsy.... have fun making everyone around you feel awkward....

How dare you infer I have no whimsy. Motherfucker I am chock full of whimsy and joy.

What is more whimsical, enjoying a fresh new world for what it is and exploring it and accepting their differences that you may not fully understand, or asking if it has gay marriage and democracy and destroying it if it does not already reflect your neoliberal values?

Just because neoliberals tolerate gay people doesn't mean that gay rights are inherently neoliberal. Democracy, maybe, but we don't know if they were doing elections with unlimited campaign spending by property owners or if they were voting in workers' councils. Classical Athens, the United States, the PRC, the DPRK, and the Republic of Ireland all have/had democracies in some sense, but they vary massively in implementation, and anyone who calls all of those neoliberal is either very confused or not being sincere.

Furthermore, trying to change the world is central to nearly any RPG. A crusade to obtain human rights doesn't prohibit whimsy or enjoyment, but when you do the fantasy equivalent of traveling to modern Gaza to organize a festival, you shouldn't be terribly surprised when you get a bad ending regardless of whether you accomplish your goal.

Also, there's no indication that the player characters were outsiders in the first place. You're characterizing them as invaders, but this could have been an internal proletarian uprising.

Epic

!even with the bigotry, keeping what's known in game relevant is important !<

DM is a mild bigot, but I respect the story continuity.

I feel mild bigot is still a bit overly critical... I mean, whatever hangup he may have had he still played out the story and planned around it... and that's a lot of work. If he was truly a homophobe he coulda just not done any of that.. but was a relative good sport about things.

I don't know much about DnD but i don't think OP necessarily has any hangups or it can be certain they're homophobic. They created a world with a history and problems and conflict just like any realistic one would have.

If they created a world where neighboring country with a vast army, because its mostly made of slaves, that doesn't mean they're pro-slavery. It means they're world building.

DM is a mild bigot

No idea where you get that idea from tbh.

It's a greentext, so it's probably from 4chan...

call it past experience and red flags. If you don't see it, I'm glad you've lived such a sheltered judgmental-free life.

I have to disagree.

Its more realistic to a medieval fantasy setting for marriage to be that way. Historically the upper class essentially did control who could get married, so they could use it to their ends, and were more bigoted than the lower classes - so gay marriage wouldn't have been a thing even if gay relationships themselves were generally well tolerated in the rest of society.

If Anon had any hang-ups from the players trying to overthrow the upper class to legalise gay marriage (aside from the players completely derailing their campaign), then they could've just stopped the session and not let the players even try it.

Having the Lich come at the end is really just the DM getting their own back on the players for refusing to engage with the actual campaign.

it's dragons and magic and wizards and shit.... what part of realistic medieval are you talking about?.... You're telling me, we can have eldritch gods and sorcerers and shit.... but a man loving another man is too world breaking for your "historically accurate" narative?........

being "no gays" in a fantasy is a DM choice.... and doing the whole "but muh realism" is a tired cop out.... plz stop.

They explicitly said that gay people are tolerated, which requires there to be gay people. They also said that straight people aren't marrying for love either.
