I landed on the waiting list like many of you, but that's okay, it gives me more time to read feedback and experiences from folks who buy one in the first round.
While we wait, what games do you actually want to play on the Frame when you get yours? Please specify if it's a VR title or non-VR title (unless it's a super popular one like Hades or Portal that everyone will recognize).
I went through the Steam store "great on frame" listings as well as the overall VR listings, and IMO it's quite a mixed bag. There's fairly good variety but many of the "overwhelmingly positive" titles are relatively old, like even 2017-2022. And many of the newer titles don't seem to have a lot of players yet.
Of course, if you have no intention of ever buying a Frame or want to discourage others or even hype some other device, please just refrain from commenting. This simply isn't the thread for you.
If anyone wants to pretend they’re Spider-Man, give Yupitergrade a try. Crazy fun story, hard as fuck levels and the music is amazing.
I want to try the second one so bad.
I really only need Elite Dangerous and I'll be happy. I'm going from an OG Vive so having no tether and 150g less weight around my face is gonna be just great. But I'm also excited to try new stuff I wouldn't have dreamed to try in the OG with the tether, like Beat Saber. Being able to do it anywhere, so I can pick the biggest room in the house instead of being limited to the one that has the computer is just like a whole different level.
If Walkabout Mini Golf is available on steam frame, it's the best game I've played so far! Highly addicting.
Second for Walkabout! While the game is "old" (it's been out for a long time) they continue to add courses and content, at the rate of about a new course every other month. If you have one or more friends who also have this game, it's about the best VR hang you can have.
That Wallace and Gromit course was such a good idea
Currently I really just want something that Carnival Games VR works on. Tried it on my Quest and it crashes as soon as you select the first minigame. The devs knew about the problem and just told people to get a different headset.
Just lapping abulzz's Targa Florio in Assetto Corsa, or dodging traffic on the Hamburg freeway. Same as always.
Edited to add links.
That's pretty rad. Do you have a driving wheel and pedal rig? I've been contemplating getting one anyway, but if I enjoy racing in VR that will very likely push me into purchasing one.
You can't quite see the seat from a Ford Focus I got from a wreckers. I built that table specifically for simracing and just pull the seat away for regular viewing/gaming from the couch. I also recently added a haptic feedback seat pad for a bit of extra immersion.
Simracing in VR is it's killer app, I reckon.
BeamNG has VR support if you hate yourself and want an express ticket towards motion sickness.
Edit to add link
I am excited to finally have standalone Beat Saber, as a PC VR only user that never owned a meta device it will be nice to finally take Beat Saber wherever I want.
Chants of Sennaar (a flat game) also just got verified today, so I will probably play that. I think it also might be time to play Half Life Alyx again, maybe I will try playing through the whole thing standalone.
And I will probably also stream some of the other games I have been playing (Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, and finally playing the Indiana Jones DLC).
Why would highly reviewed games being older be a bad thing? Those are the most likely to run well on Frame.
Older games are awesome and cheaper than grabbing something right at release. If anything, something being newer gives me more pause since the issues haven’t been worked out.
Oh 100% I'm a longtime Patient Gamer so I know exactly what you mean. I just meant to say that playing older games (as in maybe 5-10 years after release) tends to be a different experience than something released maybe 2-3 years ago that happened to hit a deep discount. The tech landscape changes and maybe now you can fully max out the settings, including high res texture mods and an ENB that weren't possible before, that sort of thing.
Or maybe you can't do any of that so it feels a bit crusty and letterboxed, that happens too.
I've already got a pretty large library, so I'll give some recommendations (mostly older as haven't had much time of late). All PCVR as I prefer buying on Steam:
-
Synthriders - rhythm game like beat saber but more dance focused
-
Dirt Rally 2.0 - not sure what the status of sim racing on Linux (and the Frame currently) but a great experience if you're at all into racing
- Automobilista 2 - similar quality but track instead of rally-focused
-
Doom 3 Fully Possessed Mod - Doom 3 mod. I never really enjoyed the original game but in VR it's a lot of fun (and scary). Looks like the github repo has gone, so not sure where to find it today
-
Eleven Table Tennis - Just what it appears to be, a nice table tennis again with somewhat realistic physics. Suprisingly fun.
-
Half-Life 2: VR Mod - For when you've played Alyx to death and want something similar. A greater challenge as well since it wasn't designed as an intro to VR.
-
Ragnarock - Another rhythm game that has a kind of viking drumming motif with a more rock/metal focused soundtrack
-
Sniper Elite VR - A bit janky but feels like an oldschool WW2 game but in VR. Maps are a lot smaller than the mainline series though, likely due to standalone limitations.
-
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - This one has had controller issues with the open source Linux stack, but hopefully it will work well with the Frame. Semi-open world survival horror game with fun combat being the main draw. There's also a sequel/DLC but I haven't gotten to it yet.
-
Crysis VR - The original Crysis in VR. The game in flat never really grabbed me, but is a lot more compelling as a VR game (although I'm a bit more prone to nausea with this one). See: https://crysis.vrmods.eu/
-
UEVR mods - A bunch of games with unreal engine support this. A bit of a pain to setup and the quality of the experience varies, but opens up a lot of conventional games. See: https://uevr-profiles.com/
EDIT: I also suggest digging into the Steam Workshop mods for Alyx. There's a lot of good content there, and you get the fantastic Alyx engine and gunplay.
EDIT 2: I'll throw in a recommendation for this bundle: https://www.digiphile.co/collections/vr-games-showcase-the-new-essentials as it looks to have some well regarded games (Into the Radius 2 and Convrgence in particular)
Doom 3 Fully Possessed Mod ... so not sure where to find it today
Someone managed to fork it and update a little more:
https://github.com/NPi2Loup/DOOM-3-BFG-VR/releases
All VR titles:
Beat Saber
Moss
MOTHERGUNSHIP Forge
Tinertia
Ragnarock
Various racing games with my wheel
Zone of the Enders 2
Rez Infinite
Redout
Hellblade
Psychonauts Rhombus of Ruin
Vox Machinae
Thumper
Thrasher
Bocce Time (I like Bocce Ball, sue me)
Doom VFR
Metal: Hellsinger VR
Half Life Alyx
Of note, Metal: Hellsinger VR is that far down the list because it's apparently a bit brutal for people new to VR. Very fast movement, not for weak stomachs. So I'll be trying that after I've gotten used to VR a bit. I will also play some flat games, but I have no idea what offhand yet. Only time will tell!
Wait, Mothergunship has VR support? I'm surprised anyone even knows this game exists...
I'll have to look into that. Mothergunship is awesome.
Have you tried vr hot?
I've never played anything in VR. This will be my first VR headset and first VR experience in general.
Great list! I'll have to check out some of the unfamiliar titles.
I forgot about that Psychonauts game, awesome!
Metal: Hellsinger does sound fun but yeah I'm a VR newbie too so I'll save that one till I have more experience so I don't get sick or punch a wall lol
Hellblade was pretty psychologically abrasive on a regular monitor (and not fun IMO), might have to skip a replay of that in VR though.
I have been building a backlog of both VR-native and VR-moddable games. I already own an Index and a Quest 3S. The latter I bought second-hand on the cheap and it really sold me on SteamVR streaming over WiFi. I have been waiting for the Frame in order to get a "modern VR" experience (wireless, pancake lenses, higher resolution, inside-out tracking, foveated rendering).
Native
- Metro Awakening
- Arizona Sunshine 2
- The 7th Guest VR
- TaVRn's Takedown
- FlatOut 4 VR
- G-Rebels
Moddable
- Resident Evil 7 & 8
- Dead Island 2
- Ready or Not
- Nuclear Option
And then there are the oldies but goodies. I'll likely return to Half-Life: Alyx for a 4th playthrough, and also have another go at Moss Book I & II. BeamNG.drive will definitely be back on the menu for various driving shenanigans, and Dungeons of Eternity for some multiplayer dungeon crawling.
I'm really excited about playing Hellish Quart in VR. I haven't played the non-VR version because I'm not interested in button mashing.
Long story short, I'm in the SCA, so I do a fair bit of sword fighting, though not fencing. Wanting to see how well VR can do it.
Other VR titles I'm looking forward to are Half Life: Alyx, Skyrim VR, Fallout VR, Boneworks, and I still need to see if there's a VR mod for Kingdom Come Deliverance because if there's one that'd likely be good too
I’m really excited about playing Hellish Quart in VR.
Woah, how have I not heard of this before, even though I spent considerable time looking for VR sword-fighting games? Maybe I was looking for Meta Quest specifically and missed this for PCRVR, but still weird that I had never seen this mentioned. Looks really good!
I've only played Hellish Quart flat, and yeah it is ridiculous that way. I'm looking forward to trying it more seriously in VR. Really curious how it will feel when nothing is stopping your arm from moving when the sword stops.
To add to my previous comment, I'm also going to pay close attention to joint health when playing Hellish Quart VR. Putting a lot of speed and power into your arms without something to absorb the energy wears on your joints, kinda similar to how it's really bad to dry fire a bow.
It's worse if you're swinging a sword through thin air due to the extra mass you're accelerating and decelerating, but shadowboxing still wears to a degree. With VR you're getting the adrenaline but no backstop.
@mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works @Metostopholes@midwest.social hopefully companies like this will start releasing accessories for the Frame controllers, and hopefully a sword attachment. Or maybe the Quest ones can be adapted.
https://deadeyevr.com/collections/all
Edit: or improvise your own with a dowel or pipe covered in a swimming noodle.
Tbh, have an actual rapier and could probably duck tape a controller to it. That would probably result in holes in the walls and a bent sword though
Ha yeah, when I first played Skyward Sword on the Wii I wore out my elbow and had to wear a brace for a bit. Had to adjust for safety.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Into the Radius 1 & 2.
I was gonna but you just did.
I had an hp reverb g2 before Microsoft killed it. I'm using the frame to get back into VR after all that time.
I'm looking to use big screen again occasionally. I'll probably see where VRchat is at nowadays. I never finished half life alyx so I'll be doing that. Tabletop simulator I believe supports VR so that'll be neat to try.
I also have a handful of games in my steam wishlist that I'll start checking out. These are all relatively old because I stopped keeping up with VR while I didn't have a headset:
- Rocking legend - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1260800/Rocking_Legend/
- I was going to look at medal of Honor above and beyond but it's still mixed in the reviews so maybe not - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1402320/Medal_of_Honor_Above_and_Beyond/
- Trover saves the universe - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1051200/Trover_Saves_the_Universe/
- hello puppets VR - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1426280/Hello_Puppets_VR/
- new retro arcade: neon, I actually played this on a console and thought it'd be fun in VR - https://store.steampowered.com/app/465780/New_Retro_Arcade_Neon/
- the walking dead: saints and sinners - https://store.steampowered.com/app/916840/The_Walking_Dead_Saints__Sinners/
Edit: oh I forgot I used to play dirt rally 2 in VR all the time, that was great. I think they stopped supporting VR in their newer games so I'll probably just stick with that one.
I also had a reverb G2. Ms killed it but the Oasis driver brought it back on windows!
Oasis actually also got Linux support last week :o
Oh shit! I moved to Nobara at the start of the year, I'll have to try this out! Thanks friend!
No Mans Sky
I'll want to try it out, but honestly NMS was a huge disappointment for me when I played though it about 2 years ago. I'm definitely interested in space/flight titles in VR though.
In that case, have you tried Elite: Dangerous?
Tried Elite:D sorta briefly, yes. Not on my current higher-end machine though, that was the old (but decent) rig. The game felt too dry, and I say that as someone who even likes the Star Trek TNG episodes where Picard argues the details of Starfleet policy versus interplanetary diplomacy, heh.
But I definitely got the impression that VR would be a huge boost so I definitely wanna give the title another shot.
CORRECTION: It wasn't my own impression, I deserve no credit. It was this editorial by Lee Hutchinson that put Elite VR on my gaming bucket list.
When showing people VR for the first time, Elite was one of the games that I would pull up, starting with a docked ship. The sense of scale, from starting in the ship to looking at the hangar, to the ship getting slotted into the docking bay, and then flying from the docking bay out into open space with a planet in the background? Incredible.
You're not wrong that the gameplay only has so much to it, and it does get grindy - but it's one of the best of its genre at the moment, especially when you limit it to stuff that works in VR. Star Citizen might top it depending on your opinion, but 1) it'll never see a full release and 2) it's so resource hungry that I'm wary of trying to run it in VR. I upgraded my computer partly BECAUSE Star Citizen ran like molasses and it still didn't hit 30FPS after getting a new CPU/mobo/RAM, probably because my GPU is seven years old.
If they every stop breaking OpenXR every update... 🫤
I have a bunch of games I want to play when I get back into VR gaming.
- Blade & Sorcery
- Tales of Glory
- Skyrim VR
- Surgeon Simulator
Games I don't have
- Rumble
- Payday: High Aces
- Gunman's Contracts
Rumble is really fun. If you haven't tried it yet I think you could enjoy broken edge.
Does it feel like you're earthbending?
It really does. It's a bit janky sometimes and also kinda hard but when you get into it, it feels really good.
I sold both my quest 2 for this a few months back.
Absolutely miss pistol whip.
Pistol Whip and Beat Saber are some of the most fun I've had in years. Not CA$1,700 amount of fun, though. 😭
I suspect there is going to be a lot more stuff happening here though.. Sounds like they also added Android support too (they open sourced lepton), so hopefully, they add their own android store soon too.. And, that will be great if there is a trend away from Play store.
It's interesting that some of these replies are listing dozens of games that they've played, as if dipping into each one and then moving on to another.
In the "flat screen" world I have maybe four favourite games with thousands of hours in each - and I'm not getting the impression that VR people are finding games with that level of interest.
To add to what IamSparticles said: a lot of the good VR games are either limited in scope mechanics based games or tell a linear story -- Half Life: Alyx for example. I.e. limited replayability.
Multiplayer games, simulators, and open world games are the ones that are ones that get hundred of hour. It's a smaller pool, but they're out there.
Oh and the ... adult "experiences" for those into that sort of thing.
The vast majority of games aren't designed with long-term replay value in mind. Period. That goes for both flat and VR alike. The overall pool of VR games is just obviously smaller, and since many are designed with room-scale movement in mind, you wouldn't generally be playing them for long periods without getting tired. If you're looking for VR games that you can spend a lot of time on, I would suggest seated simulation titles that have almost infinite replayability:
- Elite: Dangerous
- No Man's Sky
- Flight sims like DCS (combat) or MSFS (civ)
- Racing sims like Dirt Rally 2.0
That's probably the most helpful review I've seen so far - thanks!
I guess that also includes ground vehicle and walking simulators, like:
- Euro Truck simulator (has VR support)
- Snowrunner (not yet?)
- Arma (must have VR support with its military money?)
- Satisfactory (nice idea until you remember the spiders)
- Farming Simulator (I think they made a VR game for Meta users? Not sure if it's the same as their main game)
- Construction Simulator (like farming simulator but without the massive userbase)
I don't play VR often, but I've never put that amount of hours into any game and I've been playing since I was 4. Maybe I put a couple hundred hours into Pokemon on the Game Boy Color, but usually I beat a game and then move on.
I don't know about thousands, but I get the impression some of Beat Saber fans have hundreds of hours in that game alone.
Just like with non-VR games I'm sure there's a lot of variation. Some titles are designed for long branching narratives that invite replay. Some are inherently multiplayer and get most hours from that. Some have endless modes you can play over and over to best your high score. And some have none of those things and just a single definitive ending after 5-20 hours.
Honestly I haven't really looked into many VR games other than Alyx and Beat Saber. I'll figure it out when it gets here LOL.
I'm also very intrigued by the whole "spacial computing" thing.
I'm also very intrigued by the whole "spacial computing" thing.
I certainly hope to get a lot of use out of the Frame as a glorified monitor for basic computing tasks, but from what I can tell reading reviews and whatnot, it's not all that great compared to the Apple VR thing. I sure want to give that a fair shot, though.
glorified monitor for basic computing tasks
This is what I wanted when getting 'quest 2' years ago but low resolution and jittery UI/text hit like a truck. lol
I wish I had a way of trying out better headsets to see what they're capable of...
The Steam Frame doesn't have that much higher resolution than that, so I am not all that optimistic that it well be noticeably better. The Vision Pro resolution is much higher. According to Wikipedia:
| HMD | resolution | technology |
| ----- | ----- | ----- |
| Quest | 1440 × 1600 | OLED |
| Quest 2 | 1832 x 1920 | LCD |
| Quest 3 | 2064 × 2208 | LCD |
| Quest 3S | 1832 x 1920 | LCD |
| Vision Pro | 3660 × 3200 | OLED |
| Bigscreen Beyond | 2560 x 2560 | micro OLED |
| Index | 1440 × 1600 | LCD |
| Steam Frame | 2160 × 2160 | LCD |
I am still going to give it a fair shot and try.
Year I don't expect it to be as good as the Apple one
That's pretty much my plan. I'm saving some of these comments for later, but basically yeah. I've played beat saber on friends systems before and FRIGGIN LOVE IT. Like, I'm legitimately concerned about how much time I'll spend on it 😅
And I wanted to play alyx but nobody has it. So that'll be my first foray into "real" VR gaming
Like, I’m legitimately concerned about how much time I’ll spend on it 😅
Someone posted here on Lemmy on another thread about the Steam Frame release and said that they're the number one ranked worldwide player in hours played. It had a link to the rankings and it was the same nickname. I recall it being something like over 3,000 hours. He said he plays 1 hour every day, and he's 48.
It is so exciting how many first time headset owners are in this thread, really hoping this will bring and keep more people in VR.
Same here. I'm going to be a first time headset owner and also excited for the boost this might give VR.
I think the whole wired lighthouse thing kept me away...
I've been looking for a wireless one for years that's not made by Zuckerfuck
@artyom@piefed.social @hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works I went looking for full body trackers yesterday and learned about SlimeVR trackers. Have you looked into them? They don't require any lighthouse and seem to be better in some ways than the lighthouse-based trackers (no occlusion), although worse in some other ways (drifting). Also cheaper and open-source though, like, you can apparently build your own if you want. I did read that if you buy them pre-built, make sure you buy from the official source or at least look for good quality ones with good chips etc.
It's definitely the wired lighthouse that's the problem, for me. And the PCVR requirement instead of option.
My brother in law bought a system, I don't remember which, vive maybe? Somewhere around covid. He used it a bit, and then all the parts sat in his basement in a pile. For years. I guess it just wasn't for him. He lives several minutes from me, and repeatedly offered it to me, to at least set up and use long term, but I never had a good place to set it all up, and then when I did move into a new place, I still didn't want the hassle.
That sounds crazy I know. Maybe even privileged, but like, I just didn't want to mess with it.
But now I'll have the option to use the frame whenever and wherever I am. Wire free. Lighthouse free. PC free. Meta free.
He used it a bit, and then all the parts sat in his basement in a pile. For years.
This is very very common with VR haha. Mostly because it has very few practical uses and is cumbersome to start up.
Hopefully not for me!
Other suggestions are good but also: Tetris effect.
Doesn't seem like a big deal, I don't really like Tetris, but I really enjoyed it. And didn't really like it trying without VR afterwards.
I own Tetris effect and it's... Ok. But I've never played in VR, what changes about it? It just feels more immersive to see the effects around you?
Something about the immersion, especially the campaign mode just sucks you in. Functionally it's the same
And exactly, when I played without VR after the fact it was just ok
I am sure the first game I try will be Beat Saber, standalone. That was my favorite VR title, but I haven't used VR in years.
EDIT: I also want to give Polycube another go in VR. I remember finding that there wasn't really any added benefit to playing that game in VR compared to flat, but I sure want to try again. That is easily one of my favorite games.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/798790/PolyCube/
Moss was a lot of fun.
Half-life Alex. One genre i suppose will be Eurotruck Simulator 2, and American Truck Simulator. I have around 150 VR games, so i'll be revisiting a lot of experiences like arcades, pinball, bowling, golf and other physical games like BoxVR and Beatsaber. I also love sword fighting games, rpg's, etc. Also looking to play around with the colored pass-thru camera from Arcturus, but that will be bare bones for some time as people start making applications for that medium. Also normal flatscreen/pancake games. I'll be mostly streaming from my more powerful PC to the headset. Don't downplay older games either, there's some decent quality games out there. Just because a game isn't listed as "great on frame" doesn't mean you can't play them.
I want to try games like beat saber, and the talos principle vr.
Oh man thanks for reminding me about Talos Principle. That just shot to the top of my list 🙂
The Talos Principle VR is such a great story. Needs a bit of bug fixes last I played it. I wish they did VR for the second game.
I've been playing:
Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Handgrenades (looking forward to 2 coming)
Elite: Dangerous
DCS World
Derail Valley
Pavlov
Contractors (Battlefront mod FTW)
Beat Saber
MechWarrior 5 (modded)
Phasmophobia
Tribe XR (sometimes in conjunction with VRChat)
War Thunder
Assetto Corsa
Project Cars 2
SUPERHOT
Pistol Whip
Waltz of the Wizard
Games I haven't played in a while, but I recommend:
Sprint Vector (I need people to race against)
GORN
Battle Zone Gold
Iron Wolf
Star Trek Bridge Crew
Boneworks (haven't tried Bonelab)
Zero Caliber
Job Simulator
Blasters of the Universe
Star Wars Squadrons
Electronauts
Open Brush (replaced Tiltbrush)
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Sairento
Raw Data
Gunheart
War Dust
Drunkn Bar Fight
Please Don't Touch Anything 3D
Hard Bullet
Blade and Sorcery
Budget Cuts 2
Games I am looking forward to getting VR support:
Nuclear Option
Iron Nest
Star Trucker (I hope)
Games I plan to play:
Skyrim VR (with QoL mods)
Fallout 4 VR (same)
Among Us VR
Vermillion
Vox Machinae
VTOL VR
TriveXR (sometimes in conjunction with VRChat)
What is this one? I couldn't find it.
Whoops! Typo. Tribe XR
https://store.steampowered.com/app/877850/Tribe_XR__DJ_Academy/
https://youtu.be/yvBiHxekdI0
Automobilista 2.
Okay, I already spent countless of hours on it in VR. But it was with a shitty CV1 headset!
Maybe this time I'll finish Alyx too.
Currently? VRChat. Only thing I was playing on my Quest until I sold it; you don't need VR for it anyway. Alyx was good, but it's not really long or replayable.
VRs biggest issue. There's no games. Meta basically killed the segment before it could even get started.
VRs biggest issue. There’s no games.
*gestures at all the comments in this thread*
Most are old, from when the Vive and then the Index arrived. They are janky titles or existing games adapted. Alyx was the first real quality game we got.
The rest are locked behind the shitty Quest and PSVR.
There's plenty of silly little experiences, but the amount of actual games with substance is low.
I've seen a couple devs talk about this on their YouTube channels. They call it a chicken and egg problem. It's hard to get funding to develop games for a platform if you don't expect a decent sized audience. And nobody wants to buy hardware if there are no games for it. And it's resource-intensive to port a game to multiple very different pieces of VR hardware.
Hopefully Valve can break through that, because I hate having horrible spyware like the Quest as the industry standard.
It makes sense. But there were studios attempting to make games, until Facebook/Meta snatched them up to build an exclusive platform. Killed VRs momentum.
My Steam library is about 400 games. ~30% of those are exclusively VR titles, 10-15% are pancake with VR support, and less than 5% are VR with desktop support.
The only shortage I see is AAA titles, which I could care less for.
BeatSaber, Arizona Sunshine (it's really fun especially in multiplayer), Pistol Whip (somehow really cool and imo better than beat saber), and Alyx
I've never owned a headset before but for me I think the VR list would be:
- Subnautica
- HL: Alyx
- Psychonauts Rhombus of Ruin
- Pistol Whip
- Talos Principle
- Underdogs
- Star Wars Squadrons (if it works?)
- Elite Dangerous
- Dirt Rally
- Iron Nest (if that's coming, yay)
- Superhot
- Sublevel Zero
- Overload
- Phasmophobia
- Into Black
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
- Metal: Hellsinger
- Titan Isles
- Red Matter 1+2
- Simple Planes 2
- First Person Tennis
- Alien Isolation (mod) maybe with an adult diaper on lol
[Added a bunch because you all have great ideas]
I went through the Steam store “great on frame” listings as well as the overall VR listings, and IMO it’s quite a mixed bag. There’s fairly good variety but many of the “overwhelmingly positive” titles are relatively old, like even 2017-2022. And many of the newer titles don’t seem to have a lot of players yet.
One thing I've started to be disappointed by as I start to look for titles is that there seem to be several VR games that are exclusive to either Meta Quest or PSVR. As if the VR market weren't small enough, they had to go and divvy it up to be even smaller. SMH.
VRChat and nonvr Indies sitting on the couch with a stream controller.
I haven't applied for one yet though. Waiting for oled. My index will hold me over till then
First game to play would certainly have to be Beat Saber, I think that's my all time favorite game. Then probably play a fresh save of Half Life Alyx (I started one in 2023 but kind of stopped playing).
Arma Reforger, non VR. I'll check out VR titles when I get it, buy it's mostly for the milsim
Tbh, the only vr games that I've actually played have been skyrimvr and vrchat, and a tiny bit of subnautica with mods to improve the vr. I might play around with new ones a bit, but what I mostly want it for is to more conveniently hang out/try game worlds with friends of mine who are on VRC a lot.
My current headset can do it, but since switching over to linux it takes a significant amount of hassle to reboot to windows, probably let it update because I otherwise never use that partition, launch both steamVR and the pico link drivers and connect up all the cables and confirm that it's all working, just to have to reboot back to linux when I'm done with it.
That's not enough to spend money on new hardware by itself, but a close friend of mine has been wanting to try VR and hasn't gotten fed up with windows like I have, so I offered to give him my current headset when something that works with linux more smoothly comes out, which I figure the frame is probably the best bet for.
I dropped Windows years ago, and use VR all the time (Quest 3). Do I do something wrong?
My current headset is a pico neo 3 link, which I use connected to my PC with the displayport cable due to somewhat slow wifi, which I got before deciding to go to linux. Using it that way requires a driver software that, as far as Ive been able to find anyway, only works with windows. I technically could have gotten something like a quest and used some of the linux software that lets you connect to those wirelessly, but I didnt want to go with Meta stuff.
I've wanted to play Thrill of The Fight and Dragon Fist like forever. Hopefully there will be some kind of reasonable full body tracking solution for the Frame at some point, because I think that playing a Kung Fu game with full body tracking (punches and kicks) would be amazing.
I would also like to try Dirt Rally in VR, as well as Kayak VR: Mirage because it looks amazing and relaxing. I also just found out about Ocean Rift. That looks good, but I hope that it works with the Frame.
Other than that, some AR games on the Quest look amazing and I hope that they eventually make their way to the Frame.
I somehow overlooked those first two, but Underdogs looks like another fighting game I wanna try.
Racing sounds fun, and I have a copy of Dirt Rally I've never played (but enjoyed Dirt 1-3). I'd buy Rally 2.0 but it looks like it still requires a constant net connection for singleplayer, yuck.
I'll have to buy Kayak VR just so my girlfriend can play it if she gives me a hard time about buying the Frame lol. Subside looks like a similar relaxing title FYI
Those first two seem like must haves if you are at all interested in (realistic?) fighting in VR. TTOTF for boxing (including both multiplayer and passthrough so you can see your opponent in your own room) and Dragon Fist for punching and kicking (with full body tracking if you have the hardware for that). Underdogs is supposed to be great, but I'm not a fan of the whole mecha concept.
Oh, I did not realize that about Dirt Rally 2.0! I'm glad I haven't bought it yet then. Yikes. I have Dirt Rally 1.0 already.
I think flight sims would be another great use if you're into that. I hear lots of good things about VTOL VR.
It just seems like there are so many good VR games that I'm often surprised when I hear people say that there are no games.
