why?

because fuck you. that's why.

I can't really blame them. I wouldn't expect a check in the mail from Starbucks because of their coffee bean tariffs were refunded.

greedy fucks have no heart nor soul for anyone but themselves

Sony already don't want me to buy their games, so at least they've ensure they don't owe me a refund.

I really hate that companies being hostile to their customers has become normalised such that it's really expected.

There's very clearly a right and scrupulous thing to do. Not having an obligation to do that is not an excuse not to.

The reality is that it was all just a way to give a stimulus to companies without saying directly

That's obvious, and it's not what I'm talking about.

And we have no obligation to buy their products. Bodycott is the only language companies understand

Not surprising considering most companies have no plans to refund the consumer for the tariff costs they passed on because there's no regulation forcing them to do so.

yeah fuck you too

They make it so much easier for us nerds to tell the normies that these companies suck and to not buy shit from them. Broken ad infested OS, no disk Sony drama, and now this.

And they’re not.

And you’re not obligated to buy their products

And I don't. Those 800 games that I haven't touched aren't going to play themselves.

Is piracy a thing on modern consoles?

Look into the bounty on a PS5 firmware crack.

15k seems like a nice sum. I'm guessing it's pretty locked down if a few months' pay hasn't led to anything

Use emulation. Can't play the latest, but there's no shortage

I figured. DS had great piracy, which is where my burgeoning hope was pulled from.

Switch has great support too. Older models could be modded without requiring hardware modification the later ones like the oled did.

Depends on your firmware and such. It often takes time, but they'll all be jailbroken eventually.

Neither one sussists on consumer products lol

The same obligation we are under to buy them or not.

Just to highlight the good actors too:

For one thing, Arctic announced a price rollback after securing its refund, saying this will continue until "every single dollar Arctic received [...] has been paid back to our customers."

Panic, maker of the Playdate handheld, has taken a bolder stance, offering refunds to those who bought its console and were charged extra for its tariffs. Company co-founder Cabel Sasser said last month, "It's just not our money to keep."

If some people haven’t woken up to reality yet and this other nail in the coffin doesn’t do it, I don’t know what will.

Please don't forget who enacted these unlawful tariffs in the first place and who, to this day, uses them to blackmail other countries.

Also, don't forget that US corporations have gone along with this and are refusing to give the money back to the people who they took it from. The entire system is complicit and there are no good guys anymore.

Guess I'll continue pirating their shit.

Ok so profits are through the roof but there's no one to buy your products.

We do (in the USA) have a legal framework for this already? There are at least a handful of industries where, if it is found that they've mischarged, they do have to provide a refund.

Also the thing that annoys me the most is: They didn't pay the tarrifs, the consumers did. Those price changes were 100% passed onto consumers, and it should be consumers of those products seeing the refunds. If they can prove that they lost revenue based on the price hikes, sure, give some recompense, but they shouldn't be getting refunds on something they effectively didn't spend money on

Obligated? No

They're doing it for the love of the game

Ha ha ha ha. It was a fucking griffffttttt!!!!

Trump knows no other way. He milked a casino dry ffs.

at least four of them

Because they don't have to. This is business. This is psychopathy. They will only give when they are compelled to do so.

And yet game developers will keep fellating Microsoft, requiring Windows to play their PC games, giving those of us who left Windows the finger.

They're all basically in on the grift.

steam+proton is a better software distribution method for games than anything else linux has got going on. Game devs hate having to build their games six different ways for different distros with 0.5% market share each.

Maybe not, but they should anyways.

I believe UPS and FedEx are required to make refunds as people were explicitly charged tariff related fees.

Because Sony and Microsoft just baked the price in, its a little hard to get them to refund since theres technically nothing to refund (as shady and fucked up and goodwill burning as it is).
