Wish I could. But being poor and disabled in low income housing. I'm glad others have found better places. Though that means less people around me I can do things with or trust.
Yeah and many, many more are stuck and can't afford to or are too disabled to move. I'm happy I ended up in a place that a lot of us are migrating to before the migration, though it has put a strain on a lot of systems here, especially trans healthcare which was already strained.
where are they going? im almost in a position to get the fuck out florida. Trying to find people that wont hate and make me hide inside all day. Like i literally get harrassed just walking to the store regularly, even when im not looking especially femme. Where is a good place for me to go?
Illinois is in a kinda weird state where we have a lot of protections for trans individuals, buuuuut there's still a ton of bigots who are angry about those protections in the southern half of the state. The southern half is also, unfortunately, the cheapest half for cost of living while not being super flush with work. The closer you get to Chicago, the less transphobes you have to deal with, and the more jobs are available, but cost of living gets way higher. There's probably a good goldilocks zone of like Naperville or maybe Normal where transphobes are still very low and cost of living isn't nuts yet, but I haven't needed to look.
Actually it's pretty normal for a place to have either legal protections or societal acceptance but not both.

California will take you, although the high cost of living might make it difficult (I live here). I believe someone had made a map of the states with color coding and citations on their safety for LGBTQ people as a whole, but I can't seem to find the link in my bookmarks.
There are many such maps I’ve seen, though in search I’m finding many appear either somewhat out of date, unclear whether or which which data they are using, and lots that were originally posted on R***** that have since been removed (even in queer subs) temporarily cached by search indexes but with no provenance or explanatory detail.
The following are a selection of these sorted by my opinion of their overall quality and usefulness.

Note: some of the top-rated states surprise me, such as VA, unless it specifically refers to NoVA and cities like Alexandria. Likewise I would give TN a much lower current rating due to an influx of MAGA migrants since 2021. And MA doesn’t reflect the more recent high support (84%) of queer rights in public opinion compared to NH (88%). All to say, I wouldn’t treat this map (or really any that follow) as gospel.

New Hampshire is not safer than Massachusetts for travel.
Yeah there were a number of grades on map 1 which made me think it was out of date. I would not put the TN of today in the C column, for example, even the former blue dot of Nashville, due to the MAGA political migrations to that state in 2021 and 2022. The overall utility of the map is the primary reason I gave it the top spot.
As a colorblind person, these maps are horrendous 😭

I couldn't find the original article, but very similar articles cite this survey: https://mapresearch.org/brief/new-survey-reveals-dramatic-changes-for-lgbtq-adults-since-november-2024/ It seems like the article writers use the results from that survey together with population metrics to get the 400,000 number.
