That’s not too far fetched for our liberal government, Bill C21 and their use of Order In Councils to ban firearms that have been available for sale in this country since the 70’s.
All because someone who obtained firearms illegally, killed some cops in Nova Scotia and paraded around town dressed as one of the officer’s on a mass-killing spree, folks who are licensed firearms owners have to suffer the consequence of this numbskulls actions, makes complete sense.
The culture around guns in Canada has been infected by American gun culture. Used to be guns were for hunting or maybe some hobby at a shooting range.
If your identity revolves around being a gun owner, not a hunter or some other hobby that uses guns, then you're in the group of people that is the the reason why guns need to be banned. The point of that culture isn't to consider a gun a tool that's part of a hobby, but a way to have power over others. People in that mindset are just one bad day away from using those guns to harm people.
I don't really care how it's done, not my job. I just seek the desired end result and I'm not seriously expecting anyone to actually try because most Canadians don't give a shit.
Hmmm I disagree here. First building and destroying are not equal so there may not be much one party can do when the other one destroys something; therefore, you seem to be taking a position that the Liberals (in this case) should have done something not even knowing if "something" is actually possible
Second, I sort of agree Canadians may not care much but that is in huge part to them not knowing/understanding what the situation is.

We are in a very informal forum to share ideas, I am not asking for an actionable plan I will put take to my office as an MP. I am simply asking what can be done about foreign ownership of newspapers.

Absolutely! CBC has a free app called Mauril! It’s paid for by our tax dollars, might as well use it.
CBC is more concerned about their budget and offending the PCs than actual journalism.
PostMedia also owns SaltWire, a network of Atlantic community papers that includes the Halifax Chronicle-Herald, the Guardian (PEI), the Cape Breton Post, and the Telegram (Nfld).
They also own the Moncton Times & Transcript, Saint John Telegraph Journal, and Fredericton Gleaner. Fucking Irvings sold them.
I think they probably own all of the newspapers in Atlantic Canada.
They gutted a lot of those newspapers, it's nearly killed local journalism. If it weren't for the CBC, there wouldn't be local journalism. Not good that it's a crown corporation that's the only one doing it, but it's better than having nothing.

Good journalism is expensive. When local newspapers and independent newsrooms collapse, communities face severe consequences: public corruption goes unchecked, local government spending balloons without oversight, and disinformation fills the vacuum.
We need to subscribe to newspapers again. Or at least pick up the weekend edition. That said, I wish there was a way I could pay x amount each month and get access to a handful of newspapers.
What about publications like The Walrus?
They are fully Canadian (AFAIK) but not quite a newspaper. I've been tempted to subscribe but their articles are usually fairly long and fleshed out (which is a good thing, I just don't always have the wherewithal to read them consistently)

So if you aren’t sure about the trustworthiness of an independent paper, there’s at least one fully Canadian media conglomerate besides CBC.
Well the Thomson Family is Canadian. They're billionaires (so maybe not all that trustworthy) but they're Canadian. So that would Globe & Mail and Thomson-Reuters (though that would be international, not Canadian).
