"Progress" and "Duet" in particular are timeless episodes. But that was mostly jettisoned to make way for WAR DRAMA.

Mariner represents the old-school fans, who just wanted to explore the universe but was forced into war. She never wanted to be a soldier, we never wanted to watch Starfleet officers be shock troops. So I'm working 10 hours today, then after I get off I'm making labels to put on my girlfriend's tapes for her album release show tomorrow. I was doing this last night too.

My supervisor at work seems to really like me and I can't figure it out. Like he's been doing all this extra stuff to help me pass my driver training class that's happening elsewhere, stuff he's not even supposed to do like letting me drive trucks before I passed the road test.

Yesterday he came up to me while I was working and he's like, "Stop for a second. I want to tell you that you're doing a great job here. Soon you'll be a driver and I know you'll be great at that, I see it in you. You know I'll be sad to see you go.". I swear he was tearing up a bit, it was so genuine it kinda shook me. I've never seen him be like that with anyone else and all my coworkers act like he's straight evil.

I know I work hard and try to excel at whatever I do, but I don't get why this guy likes me so much. I've only worked for him for like 4 months. He seems to have liked me from day one, which is unusual for me because I'm socially awkward(probably neurodivergent). I've probably had a grand total of 10 to 20 sentences of non-work conversation with him since I've been here.

My current theory is that he has a son who's neurodivergent and that's why he feels like he knows me so well. My partner thinks he's buttering me up to try to get me to become management, but he hasn't said anything to make me think that(and I'd never do it).

Started playing the original King's Field from 1994, partly because I feel like witnessing the advent of polygonal rendering is the kind of mind-blowing jump in game design that no generation of players afterword will witness, and byeah. It has the kind of "snoop environments in which Stuff has happened and find things both for narrative ends and progress" gameplay loop that I really like in System Shock and Resident Evil. It's been a while, but I still can't get over how Nuummioq, the "First Greenlandic Feature Film" has a white actor playing the main character and he pointedly refuses to give even a single line in anything but Danish. He can be in a scene with four actors who are supposed to be his family, all inuit, all speaking Kalaallisut, and he will respond exclusively in Danish. Half the movie is him hanging out with his Inuk brother who exclusively speaks Kalaallisut and refusing to even use a single Greenlandic word.

Looked up the console and PC download sizes for FF16 and the FF7Remakes and I couldn't even fuckin' download and store them if I wanted to. Giant digital sizes and downloads totally knocked me out of being even capable of pirating or playing these games if I had the money, time, etc. to engage and own these things. God damn. FF16 is like 150-ish GB and the PS5 download for FF7Rebirth was like 350 after it decompressed, it said. Maybe that's a Euro-region thing with more language tracks but yeah. Still crazy.

watching a super long video on gamergate, damn there's a lot of historical context here, and absolutely none of it serves to justify people sending death threats etc to women on the internet with differing opinions than them. it's like, i hated Mass Effect 3's ending and the way certain industry people went to bat for that game (which introduced microtransactions and on-disc dlc to the premium priced series) too, but I wasn't out here harassing a writer who had been with bioware for a decade until she was forced to leave, and I certainly didn't turn into a fucking fascist over it.

I realized after way too long that my water and sewer bills were high because my usage went way up. I had assumed it was inflation. Turns out I had a toilet leaking in the upstairs bathroom I never use. I turn off the water to that toilet and my meter stops moving, so I figured I'm good.

Then my other toilet starts leaking the next day. So I fix that one and the next day my water heater blows a bunch of water out the temperature and pressure valve.

Turns out what happened was that the city installed a backflow preventer on my water feed at some point in the last year. Since my water heater has no expansion tank, when the water heats up, it expands and because the water can't flow back out to the street anymore, the pressure built up and destroyed my toilet valves. The leaking toilets prevented the pressure from building, but once I fixed those the safety pressure valve on the hot water tank had to release to protect the tank from breaking.

I'm installing an expansion tank today that will be able to absorb that pressure. I guess I should thank my lucky stars it didn't destroy anything else. My nightmare is a pipe bursting inside a wall, my house has tons of old galvanized pipe that I need to replace at some point.

Got my car totalled and the insurance payout was insultingly low. Now I have to get a new one ASAP because public transport in Norway is a fucking joke.
