I've heavily encouraged people to make heavy use of it to avoid friction on this site.
Just food for thought for anyone who has ever wished to not see a comment from a toxic individual again: there's literally a button for that!
Thank you for your attention on this matter!
ACAB includes report buttons
how many reports until it makes a heap!
vagueposting about LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins eating a ban for generally being unhinged to randos
People should have ganged up on them more so they can proceed to block everyone like they always do whenever they get pushback lmao
I'm reporting everyone I know
So confused for lack of a comma. Why would we be reporting people we know?
I'll often do that classic autism thing where I worry I come off as rude or inconsiderate.
And then I see actually rude people and those concerns lessen.
I can be quite crass but.... Yeah. That person was a bit much.
What if I report someone and nothing happens?
Ok, so I maybe partially caught up on the drama this post is actually about after scrolling through the modlog. I’m pretty sure I was blocked by him a while ago for complaining that content which requires a CW under the CoC didn’t have one instead of just reporting the post for it. This comment really was meant more generally than that.
Same
I reported that user who is suspected of being at and nothing came of it. Gravely disappointed in the moderation here
suspected of being at
anti-tank?

Stop being libs and call it like you see it. Closing our eyes will change nothing.
Liberalism manifests itself in various ways.
To let things slide for the sake of peace and friendship when a person has clearly gone wrong, and refrain from principled argument because he is an old acquaintance, a fellow townsman, a schoolmate, a close friend, a loved one, an old colleague or old subordinate. Or to touch on the matter lightly instead of going into it thoroughly, so as to keep on good terms. The result is that both the organization and the individual are harmed. This is one type of liberalism.
To indulge in irresponsible criticism in private instead of actively putting forward one's suggestions to the organization. To say nothing to people to their faces but to gossip behind their backs, or to say nothing at a meeting but to gossip afterwards. To show no regard at all for the principles of collective life but to follow one's own inclination. This is a second type.
To let things drift if they do not affect one personally; to say as little as possible while knowing perfectly well what is wrong, to be worldly wise and play safe and seek only to avoid blame. This is a third type.
Not to obey orders but to give pride of place to one's own opinions. To demand special consideration from the organization but to reject its discipline. This is a fourth type.
To indulge in personal attacks, pick quarrels, vent personal spite or seek revenge instead of entering into an argument and struggling against incorrect views for the sake of unity or progress or getting the work done properly. This is a fifth type.
To hear incorrect views without rebutting them and even to hear counter-revolutionary remarks without reporting them, but instead to take them calmly as if nothing had happened. This is a sixth type.
To be among the masses and fail to conduct propaganda and agitation or speak at meetings or conduct investigations and inquiries among them, and instead to be indifferent to them and show no concern for their well-being, forgetting that one is a Communist and behaving as if one were an ordinary non-Communist. This is a seventh type.
To see someone harming the interests of the masses and yet not feel indignant, or dissuade or stop him or reason with him, but to allow him to continue. This is an eighth type.
To work half-heartedly without a definite plan or direction; to work perfunctorily and muddle along--"So long as one remains a monk, one goes on tolling the bell." This is a ninth type.
To regard oneself as having rendered great service to the revolution, to pride oneself on being a veteran, to disdain minor assignments while being quite unequal to major tasks, to be slipshod in work and slack in study. This is a tenth type.
To be aware of one's own mistakes and yet make no attempt to correct them, taking a liberal attitude towards oneself. This is an eleventh type.
We could name more. But these eleven are the principal types.
They are all manifestations of liberalism.
Liberalism is extremely harmful in a revolutionary collective. It is a corrosive which eats away unity, undermines cohesion, causes apathy and creates dissension. It robs the revolutionary ranks of compact organization and strict discipline, prevents policies from being carried through and alienates the Party organizations from the masses which the Party leads. It is an extremely bad tendency
- Comrade Mao
Clarification: This applies only between party rank-and-file, ie between politically active comrades who are working together. It’s wrong to conceive of this site as a party or even directed toward any actionable goal. Users on this site don’t need to be held to the standards of party members. It is good advice, but no one is obliged to be dragged into online arguments.
that's what it was originally for, but it doesn't have to be strictly confined to that. some of them are obviously applicable to just being a good comrade in everyday life and not specific to being in a militant communist organisation. i think there is a lot in there (and across Mao Zedong thought in general) that can and should be applied to everyday life. at least i see it as very valuable personally as someone who doesn't have much energy for political activity beyond day-to-day agitation. point 1 is a point to live by, not some niche party/military concept.
sorry if this comes across combative or anything i think we are pretty much in agreement!
First, yes we are pretty much in agreement. No worries about any negative feelings.
It is great advice that I, too, try to live by. People are attracted to political work from many backgrounds, with varying interpersonal skills and potentially toxic behavior, not least of which is liberal civility. The advice is useful in daily life for that very reason that it was meant to raise the wisdom of individual party members.
It’s only in the context of party work that mere advice develops into obligation and moral code because, as Mao emphasizes on each point, there are objective harms to organized political work when not followed. And party members are obliged to follow these rules because they have themselves committed to the work. It’s not a standard held to the “masses”, and indeed not every person can or should commit themselves to party work.
Frankly, most people are just trying to survive. I cannot ask anyone to combat liberalism unless they have the capacity to do that.
I think the bigger problem is the habit of holding up the little red book as a Bible. Mao is right here, but he's not right on the authority of him saying it, and we can get arguments from some of these points but not all of them
This is probably the fifth time I've read Combat Liberalism and every time I'm struck by how perfectly Mao distilled the precepts. Evergreen advice. I should probably pin it up on the wall until I stop being such a
it's one of the texts along with On Contradiction that has most influenced my thinking patterns and actions in my day-to-day life.
It's beautiful that it fits in a single comment. Brings a tear to the eye every time I see it.
It's beautiful to think of Mao calling Trotsky the 4th type of Liberal
Your comment is too good. Get your own post, it deserves better than my shitty meta-post.
You dropped this, comrade.
If someone reports me can i do a mod action on myself?
mod action on myself?
hot
You better
Good question.
Unfortunately I only have the button to resolve the report this is cringe. My bit has failed and now I am sad and look silly in front of everyone
This means that mods are structurally unable to do actual self crit.
big if true
This is literally mod abuse
ha silly
LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER
@mods how do I report a report
You can report this post right here instead
Reported you for mod abuse. Lets see what the mods think about that eh?
I'll ban you from a comm that I can if you mess with me!
What level of meta are we on now
As a mod of a few comms I actually encourage this. Please report posts that you think are breaking the rules and don't crash out over them
I'll occasionally allow some interaction if there's a good discussion and everyone's in consensus (e.g. someone from another instance saying dumb shit and getting called out), but I only let that go on for a bit before they're banned for a year.
I also take no action unless there's a report because I see my job as moderator as one of support for the community and if the community hasn't reported it I'm going to assume they're okay with it or it's not worth it to get involved.
I have made a few feddit users write me small essays to avoid a ban and then just ban them anyways, that's usually pretty fun.

no you can't
You can also just block people
libertarian
Reports are for community health; blocks are for personal health. It is good not to block people too frequently, because it helps the community if you can see and report when people break the rules, and it doesn't always hurt to build some extra tolerance for people being disagreeable and to try to reach out to people you think you can reach; but this is still volunteering a portion of your mental health for the sake of the community, and if you don't think you have it in you then you shouldn't force yourself: mind your enjoyment of the site, report and then block. This is my own broad strategy.
doesn't really address the problem. this is still one of the least shit places online and i think it's worth struggling to keep it that way instead of just out of sight out of mind
Sometimes mods just don't do anything
yeah i mean, don't get me wrong, i think it's egregious that the user this thread is about hasn't been permabanned months ago. they don't add anything to the community except nonstop rancid vibes. i think there is a pattern from admins of using kid gloves and avoiding permabans, maybe out of a fear of further slowing site growth? and i don't think it's justified at all or a wise move for the wellbeing of the site and its users. i'm just not willing to actually step up and become a mod or whatever so i kind of put up with it to some extent because i still believe the site is salvageable
It was also his 3rd account by now. It's pretty obvious when someone is posting about their job across all banned accounts.
is this a sure thing? i saw your post about it earlier
I am absolutely certain. No way I can remember previous usernames but he crashed out over needing to cw meatposting before, iromic cause he became the vegan cook at his job. Thats how I know its been the same person. Talking very consistently about his job across different accounts and it clearly being the same job, cooking at a college. I know he blocked me after I reported him misgendering me and then made numerous vagueposts complaining about it and I repeatedly asked to be tagged if he wanted to shit talk me as if im not scrolling the same fucking board instead of being a coward but he had blocked me. That was his second account which got banned shortly after, first got banned for crashing out when meat tags got introduced. Both subsequent accounts have been spiteful about that, Leroy less than the previous, lesson learned one at a time I guess. But yeah, between the same pattern and being pretty open about personal details between accounts, its really obvious to me. I dont really consider it my business to call out all ban evaders, i'm aware of a few and theyve been decent folks on their new accounts, this guy keeps being a dick
Hah. Well I was 85% certain previously that he repeatedly posted meat and claimed it was vegan directly after blocking me, but I’ll raise that to at least 95% sure now.
I have a bee in my bonnet about more then him. Although I think he was on my blocklist a little while ago.
I mean yea I think so too, this is pretty much the best space on the internet. Still have some things that bother me though I guess.
maybe out of a fear of further slowing site growth?
Slowing growth or accelerating shrinkage? I thought the net direction for years has been shrinkage.
i think you're right, yes, i did consider that i should maybe word it that way lol
Sorry if I was being a pedant, but I'm out of touch on this subject so I was genuinely wondering if it became net growth at some point.
you're fine:) yeah it's my impression that we've been on a decline for a while. was just reflecting on 3k-comment trans megas of a couple years ago earlier...
Behavior cannot be corrected unless it is acknowledged as a problem.
I think reports tend to be a very bad mechanism for accomplishing that.
Some people would love get punished *wink
Hey, that's my job to be the lovable prevert here!
I thought your job was to reference the Simpsons as frequently as possible
You and me against the world. Coming this SUMMER. 2 LOVABLE PERVERTS. RATED X FOR XXXTREEMMMEE *GUITAR RIFF
Like Beavis and Butt-Head, but better
You've been a very helpful mod
That's right, keep everything nice and civil...
If we modded everyone on this site that I've blocked, we would have significantly fewer posters. Hexbear is a cool place but I still don't wanna see like 50% of y'all's toxic nonsense. I'd be genuinely interested to see a list of who has blocked the most users..
Idk, sometimes I like having a lost little lib to belittle for their idiocy. Plus all the other people joining in really builds teamwork.
People hate me
Are you sure you're "ThatVeganYouHate" or are you "ThatVeganYouLoveToHate"?
