I spent so much time prepping instead of listening to the advice to live normally anyway.
No matter the political or economic system people's desires are the same. They will want money and power and will play the game to get it and corrupt efforts to regulate such behavior. It's like Plato's philosopher king, everything is amazing when those who have power are moral. Any ideal system will need to assume some percentage of the population is immoral and will do anything to gain power then use that power to erode any and all structures or policies in their way to mitigate their corruption.
whats scary is our system actually was made to take that into account. It just could not handle a majority party all being immoral in the congresses and key jiggering with things before the grab like denying scotus picks and just generally weakening of citizen rights. patriot act. citizens united. ugh.
The benefits of defending the system aren't as great as the benefits of breaking the system. Things naturally decay if not well maintained. It's taken us decades upon decades to get to this point. That's to say it was no small feat. A great reset is about due maybe in the next decade or two. It's also a given that any system put onto place will slowly be eroded and that's a tough one to defend against for anyone.

It's strange to say now is one of the best times in human history. It only makes sense if someone is aware of how shit everywhere was not that long ago. Removal of native populations, enslavement lasting thousands of years is unfortunately not unique to the Americas, actually pretty common in human history. What's unique about the past half millennium is the rapid development of technology and the increased reach of these behaviors. Typically people were just genociding and enslaving their immediate neighbors before. Quite unfortunate timing for central America that the Aztecs were fucking everyone up and enslaving them just before the Spanish arrived for instance. The east African slave trade to the middle east is essentially ongoing to this day but gets very little attention.
If you live within the American empire, perhaps. Would you tell the Iranians, gazans, or Lebanese that now is the best time in human history? As the global billionaire pedophile elite tries to genocide them out of existence?
What two time periods are we comparing exactly? I'm talking about time spans of hundreds and thousands of years. In that context things are generally better. These current situations are unlikely to last hundreds or thousands of years into the future. That's to say generally the quality of life will continue to improve over time with humanities development of technology.

Also, have you not heard of climate change, lol? Quality of life is already starting to drop precipitously. Young people can't afford housing and food at the same time, and soon we will be facing famine and war.

Once again what time scale are you referencing? To actually have this discussion I need to be aware what you're comparing to. I've already explicitly stated what time periods I'm speaking about. Like is your reference 1980's in a particular country or globally?

I think the worst sentiment to come out of "leftist" bickering is that slavery is human nature. That is possibly the worst justification for capitalism one could come up with, and also incredibly small minded. The mental gymnastics that conclusion requires could only be done by someone with a seething hatred for humanity as a whole. Like if anything it's the increasingly shrinking 10% of the human population, the wealthy, that are turning against human nature. It fucking infuriates me seeing people blatantly deny the truth so they can hate the people around them. Literally no different from a racist.
Human nature is to eat, fuck, reproduce, and work cooperatively in small groups.
