Chapotraphouseit's been over a week since her first dose of pyrantel and I've been making sure to clean out her litter every day and we got her and the other 2 cats on Revolution (which also kills roundworms) so I think since she should have passed the worms + eggs in her within the first few days and revolution should be killing any new ones as they reach her intestines I'm pretty sure it's okay for her to be out and walking around. The other cats probably won't encounter any eggs and if they do they're protected with their own doses
If I'm wrong about that tbh i don't wanna know, I feel like Ive had enough anxiety over this cat being a biohazard and I don't wanna put her back in the dog kennel until she gets spayed because she understandably fucking hates being locked up in there and it makes everyone, especially her, very sad

my other cats are just absolutely spiteful and mean towards her though, she'll trot up all excited to make a friend and just get hissed at
she's the sweetest kindest animal in the world though and doesn't deserve that
how long have you had her compared to them? might change with time
it's only been a week so they're making progress, the good thing is they're not fighting, the old cats just hiss and one runs away like she's worried she'll get stabbed

but the latest update is she's out of kitty prison and we're letting her walk around and only slightly anxious she'll try to chew through power cables and stuff! so far she hasn't and she's much happier walking around

and she's noticeably healthier already after just a week, her coat is softer and her belly is less round :3
oh she was clean of like communicable viruses like FIV and stuff but she had roundworms and fun fact that the vet didn't mention but according to the internet roundworm eggs are like, fuckin' indestructible outside of steam cleaning (or boiling)/UV disinfection, so it's been Kind Of A Concern having them spread through the house. So she's been locked up in a dog kennel in our living room
IMO the vet should have advised us to give all the cats revolution straight away to help prevent contaminating the other cats + informed me like general stuff about it but I guess she was busy with some emergency surgery or something when I took her in (we were there waiting for 2 hours it was really cool) so maybe she just didn't think about it. Idk. She didn't want to give Squidward revolution at first because she still had swollen mammary glands and I wasn't 100% certain of the age of the kittens and she didn't want to listen when I kept saying "we don't have the kittens anyway, the neighbor has them, and they say they're eating solid food"
so all she ended up doing was giving her pyrantel, which to my understanding is basically a quick acting paralytic that kills all the adult worms present in the guts, but you still gotta quarantine and thoroughly clean after taking it because she'll be pooping out tons of viable eggs for a few days, and then after that it requires a second dose 2-3 weeks later because there will be immature larvae migrating through the cat to the intestines that pyrantel doesn't kill. Asking the lying machine indicates even a third dose might be necessary depending on how fast/slow they migrate
it's somewhat not as bad as it sounds because, unless I'm being lied to, it seems like the eggs mostly stick to poop at first, so if you clean the litter every day you'll get most of them. And also apparently it takes a few weeks sitting in the environment before they become infectious and able to hatch. But I'm really OCD so it's still been kind of a nightmare of "oh great, she touched this, she touched that, gotta clean everything"
revolution (generic name is selamectin, I think there's generic brands like Senergy) goes into their blood and tissues and basically kills every serious parasite that tries to consume them for the next 30ish days, so IMO it should get the remaining larvae immediately, preventing them from laying new eggs, as well as protecting the other 2 cats in case we fuck up and they're exposed and accidentally ingest any
apparently it's recommended for most cats to be on it because it'll protect them from heartworms, but IMO that's kind of expensive if they're an indoor only cat and you rarely/never get mosquitos inside. If you get lots of mosquitos though look into generic selamectin because heartworms sound horrifying
