Okay so: Spain does everything it can to make sure Africans die before reaching its borders, it makes visas hard for them (not a single country in Africa can enter Spain without a visa), they contribute to global warming and neo-colonialism causing the poverty in those African countries, their history is entirely made of colonialism and fascism. And now they have the gull to complain about immigrants and are calling it a zionist ploy after a few "#FREEPALESTINE" tweets? get lost.
morrocco controls the flow of migrants because of aggreements with the wider EU, when they are pressuring the EU or spain they intentionally increase the grains of migrants to a heap overwhelming the border. this has happened multiple times when spain was seen to support the polisarios.
besides morrocco being a dog of the empire though, i doubt they needed much zionist encouragement when this can be equally read as a response to spanish reapproachment with algeria. pedro sanchez was just in algiers.
they put themselves in that position by encouraging Morocco to hold control immigration for Europe
sure but i don't think it's spain particularly that's culpable for that, is it? the bloc leaders set the agenda on murdering heaps of migrants in the sea & north africa, even though some parts of the EU are more receptive--spain's current gov being one of them.
Spain's current government was involved in the 2022 Melila massacre and Pedro Sanchez himself called it organized
the sanchez gov't also has a legalization regime for "illegal" migrants, 500k this year (which still sucks btw) but the other side of the "debate" in europe are nazis that want to mass-expell and/or murder heaps of immigrants.
i don't think this is particularly germaine to the OP, that the EU is generally evil to migrants doesn't prove morrocco can't leverage those immigration controls politically. all that's being asserted is morrocco did this on purpose to a political end, i don't have to defend EU border/migrant policy to argue that.
Is any part of that article more than speculation?
"The CIA was involved" is the most reasonable assumption when something that benefits US hegemony happens, as evidenced by decades of sheananigans. Things like this are part of a wider campaign to get rid of the socdem government in Spain on the following year's elections, and substitute it for a completely NATO subservient right/far right coalition
It's a logical leap
It would be if we didn't have an 80 year long history of this. "Let's be skeptical" for 30 years until the papers get declassified and then it will be obvious in hindsight. Last month the ex-President of Spain, from the same party as Pedro Sánchez, got indicted on a case of corruption. The phone containing the evidence comes from Department of Homeland Security, who "found" it in Miami.
If you want further evidence, there has been no condemnation against Morocco from the EU for doing this on purpose, and on the contrary, two EU countries (Italy and Denmark) coordinated tob threaten Spain with the closure of the Schengen space. Morocco did this 5 years ago and the whole EU joined in condemnation
I'm extremely sceptical when anybody adopts the right wing framing of "weaponized migration" that uncritically, even tho the source in general seems less reactionary than i would expect when most of the authors have a background in the finance industry. Something about that article feels really, really wrong.
The framing that it's the natural order of things that the government should keep people from leaving the country and that it's an act of aggression when it fails to do so is so weird. Especially when it's not even that countries citizens.
Also they make it sound as if Morocco just has to open a gate to let the immigrants flood out when this is a highly militarized border with a giant concertina wire tipped fence and armed guards on the Spanish side.
From what I heard, most people swam around the border fence along the coats, because the Supreme Court of Spain had recently made a ruling saying that illegal crossings couldn't be pushed back at maritime borders under current laws, a loophole that's now closed.
If they did, it's an extremely rare US-Israeli W by undermining a Spanish colonial outpost.
you do NOT gotta hand it to them. also, the current régime in morocco is a western colony in all but name.
Ceuta was annex by Portugal nearly 100 years before before large parts of Iberia were even annexed. I don't know why continuous habitation by an Iberian nationality since the late middle ages isn't considered enough to establish sovereignty. That was 1415, or 368 years before the Russian Empire annexed Crimea. If the issue is that Ceuta is 19 kilometers overseas, China has military outposts in the 9-dash line that are 1,100 km from Hainan.
the time sounds significant but occludes that a large part of the population in Ceuta & Melilla were morroccan/rifians workers while most the spanish were part of a military garrison, not permanent residents. them becoming cities is more recent and intimately related to colonial exploitation--i think it's fairly reasonable to entertain the working people of morrocco who built these places under colonized conditions have a claim.
the kingdom of morrocco however only acts on this from the angle of fucking with Spain/EU, which criticize morrocco's colonizing the Sahrawi. the israel/US angle is a part of the current heap, quid-pro-quo for the Abraham accords (the US demanding countries withdraw recognition of SADR since morrocco signed). but the timing is also close to a recent Spanish visit to Algeria (who host and arm the Polisario front)
