As a 36 year old anarchist my experience has been people have no concept of anarchist theory whatsoever. They legitimately think we just want to abolish the state and turn the world into mad max. They dont know any famous anarchists or their works. They think we dont have a plan we're just big mad about the world. Its easily refuted if you can get them to listen but its mentally taxing to start from that misconception. We have a storied history of trying to protect you people from all myriad of abuses and all you do is spit in our faces.

Except almost none of us have met a mature adult anarchist. I have met many teenagers claiming to be an anarchist, when really they're just pissed off at any authority. Now are mature anarchists an important part of a social movement, absolutely yes. Someone who's willing needs to show that the law or norm is question is absurd. Do I expect an edgy teenager to fill that role, absolutely not.

There are too many edgelords larping as anarchists 😮‍💨. Thank you for not dismissing all of us outright like most people.

Reads like you have trouble find us.
When was the last time you went to a food bank?

My problem that hasn't been solved (except like "don't worry, it'll just work") is what happens when an enemy entity tries to take over, could be another country, could be the usual power hungry sociopathic narcissists from inside, etc.

For now only democracy (plus education, fairness etc) seems to have any power against that.

Every time I've had a discussion with someone about anarchy, they just describe democracy but with a society that actually cares and participates, and they always think that, for some reason, the bad actors will stop acting badly. They don't understand that, regardless of intention, shitty authoritarian fascists would make short work of an anarchist society. They also don't seem to understand that anarchy was what we had before we had any semblance of government in the world. Governments of various kinds were created because Anarchy does not work.

Governments of various kinds were created because Anarchy does not work

Based on what history or anthropological theory/evidence? Sounds like a preconceived notion, rather than factual truth.

My reading of various sources is that egalitarian societies established material relations that turned into castes, and then one caste established dominance over the others and created a ruling class. That ruling class created the "governments" to effectively rule over the rest based on their own material class interests.

The nature of government has changed over time, at one time there were feudal relations, now we have capitalist states. At no time, and in now way were governments created because anarchy didn't work. On the contrary, egalitarian societies worked pretty well until divisions in labor and distribution of resources became concentrated and monopolized.

I'm not an anarchist, but I disagree with your framing and would like to know what it is based on, if anything

Anarchy is society without hierarchy. Anarchism, what ‘anarchists’ are a proponent of, is how you bring order to that society. You need to read up my friend and develop your simplistic derivative opinions.

Anarchy does work, but it doesn't scale. It's fine for a town of a few dozen people, though.

For 8 billion people? Never gonna happen. Star topologies are necessary at that level.

The reality of democracy would be closer to the ideal in an anarchistic society. Same goes for fairness. Education could be debated, but I don't really see a reason why it couldn't work just as it does in any other system.

Without education you have chaos.

What you teach is some matter of discussion IMO but not teaching itself.

Sorry if I was unclear. What I meant to say that all of the above could be better realized in an anarchistic society, except maybe education, but that's debatable since at least the for-profit aspect of it would be eliminated.

Okay, no problemo 😊! But how would an anarchist society deal with bad agents?

Edit: agents/actors

Is it?

Dont take my word for it. Go read old newspaper clippings. We only started getting infantilized somewhere around the 80s

oh you meant recent in geologic time

It isn't.

no I havent

There is some point there but I think it's more like this:

Besides the sell-out of youth culture we've seen in older generations there has been a general (self-) infantilisation and also (self-) pathologisation (autism, ADHD) of younger (often left-ish) people in the last decades, noticeable in graphic design (kawaii, google business style) and memes. So bad that sometimes I think it's a psy-op.

A war has been waged against anarchism and there's very few mature adult anarchists around who dare to call themselves that - and they might be correct in assuming that wearing anarchism like a badge can be dangerous.

Wtf is that an AI image? I'll post this comment (was too much work to delete) but then I'll leave. I won't write in a group that uses AI imagery, fuck off. Edit typo

If you're going to assume every picture on the internet is AI by default, just smash all your computers and devices now.

The image is not AI, at best it was "AI upscaled", but the original (pixelated) predates slop machines and the version posted is possibly a good 6 years old now. https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1856593-you-are-not-immune-to-propaganda

That image is far older then image generators

I got this picture off of the internet. What makes you think that this is AI?

The AI paranoia of some people starts reaching pathological status. Who in their right mind even cares?

For someone like me my PC probable uses more power in idle when trying to create something (i absolutely suck at everything regarding image manipulation outside of drawing rectangles with mspaint) than the few seconds my GPU takes to generate something like this.
