TechnologyI wouldn't buy a cordless mouse that couldn't use rechargeable AA's or AAA's. Consumers really need to take control, these companies deliberately create ewaste.
I'm on my 2nd set of switches on my current mouse from ~2010 because I can't find a new one with that and a button layout that is as good. It's insane to me that no one has made a viable replacement since then.
I bought Keychron keyboard because it can be used wired or wirelessly. Why can't mice do the same? I don't see many options at all for that.
My logitech mouse can. It needs a bit of plastic around the usb port though, presumably because the port itself isn't strong enough.
Game controllers can generally be used that way too, so you pose a good question.
The only logical answer might be because they want to create waste, and consumers have not demanded that they offer corded/cordless mice.
Yeah I wanted a keyboard with wired + bt and the 2.4ghz option was a bonus. It can connect to 3 different devices easily. I bought the 8bit controller so i can use it on two separate devices with with the dongle and bt.
So where are my mices with the same setup?

Hell I wish they would make a mouse that recharges from movement and clicking.

Eh, I just have the mouse cable/charger on my desk connected to the 2.4ghz receiver, super quick to just plug it in while in a game, no need to go find unused batteries.
Though i must admit, mice using AA-batteries can last like a year, right? Which is pretty cool though.
I use corded, have previously used rechargeable AA mice though, it's not an issue and you don't have to worry about the built in battery ever being the problem with the mouse.
Same here, for some of my mice and for a bunch more of things - for example a old pair of noise reduction headphones I have uses a single AAA battery.
It's only with a few years of you use that you really notice the great advantage of rechargeable AA/AAA batteries over custom format rechargeable batteries - when they invariably loose capacity after many recharging cycles, it's stupidly simple to replace the AA/AAA batteries (and if you're lucky the technology has improved in the meanwhile, so the newer ones are actually better) but not so for the custom format ones.
That pair of noise reduction headphones (which I bought for work and are now used at home for gaming) are maybe 15 years old by now and gone through 3 or 4 generations of rechargeable batteries.

Let them screw around. they are just teaching consumers how to replace brands entirely.
I wouldn't be surprised if they take something like a standard CR2 sized lithium rechargeable and stuff it into a proprietary plastic shell. Solely to screw over the customers who need replacements (at high cost direct from Logitech), but won't be bothered to design their own battery to optimize capacity for the available space.
at least we can 3dprint that sort of thing. until they design them specifically to make that difficult, anyways
So this is not the first time Logitech will have had a mouse with a replaceable battery. The Logitech G7 had a swappable rechargeable battery and it was great.
But yes it was a proprietary battery, but you only needed 2. One in the mouse and one in the recharge station. Swapping them out was basically the push of one button. I would love it if they went back to that sort of design.
This is why I only buy wired mouse. Why should I deal with that crap just to get rid of a wire that never bothered me.
I've been using rechargeable AAs in my G602 for almost 2 decades. There's absolutely no need for proprietary bullshit to be involved when it comes to powering a mouse. Even the shitty little inland one I carry around in my work bag takes a AA.
They've had lots with replaceable batteries. I really miss my G604. You could swap the 2 AA's in about 10 seconds without even picking the mouse up. And they lasted forever. Alas the switches are shit and too much of a pain to replace.
I have a spare G604 in a drawer and my first one has new switches, a new scroll wheel, and a new 3D printed shell to replace the crumbling rubber original.
It’s damn near perfect for me, especially the device switching button being so accessible. Getting it to work despite the planned obsolescence isn’t that much effort all things considered.
I’ll admit the switch replacement surgery is unnecessarily complicated for a fucking computer mouse. Way too many interlocking parts. If you still have it in a drawer, I really think it might be worth looking into it.

Savage, but then a mouse would be uncharacteristically heavy with a standard barrel battery, right??. A button may work but nobody makes rechargeable buttons yet.
I switched from my fancy pants Turtle Beach Elite 800X headset, the best of the best before Astro A40 and Arctis Nova Pro released, to a SteelSeries Siberia 800. Going from a dodgy, dying-battery premium headset to a midrange that comes with two batteries and more can be purchased was a (quite literal) game changer. So I can attest to Steelseries being great. Side bonus the batteries were coincidentally interchangeable with a few brands of Nokia but can't remember which ones.
My point is, SteelSeries are a great brand and they make mice with interchangeable, AAA, batteries. Like the Rival 3. Now that I've found this mouse I'm actually kind of sad that I don't need a replacement. It's amazing.
Nothing made by "Turtle Beach" is the best of the best. Even their best stuff is barely good/great.
Oh yeah, I meant the most hyped headset of the time if I'm being accurate. In terms of longevity I bought one of their other headsets, it developed a fault after about 18 months (within warranty) and since it was discontinued they sent me an 800X replacement. It was great for gaming audio and stellar surround audio -- felt I was cheating with hearing footsteps so well in MMOFPS -- but the headset lasted 9 months before dying. After that I got SteelSeries for the convenience, and well I still own them and just need to source 3D printed earcup hinge pieces because the plastic broke. Otherwise they're perfectly fine. Also bought new batteries
Yeah I've been using wireless mice that take AAA's for years at this point. Thing is they last very long (maybe half a year) that it really doesn't matter all that much.
I prefer mine with a cord. It looks like there are still plenty of wireless mice available that use AA batteries. Eneloop batteries work great for those.
I absolutely refuse to buy any small gadgets using rechargeable batteries. I buy either wired, or using standard AA/AAA batteries. I am seeing the similar trend in pocket and tabletop radios, which is an absolute nonsense.

Exactly! Using proprietary battery shapes and sealing them inside the devices benefits only the manufacturer - everybody else loses. I also can’t believe the bullshit excuses they use to justify this: “open designs can’t be waterproof” (yes, they can), “sealed cases are thinner and lighter” (by a fraction of measurement nobody can even appreciate in daily use), etc.
Take note everybody, these are the companies that care more about profits than their consumers.

My mice have always had the grip fall off long before I experienced any battery issues.
Is this even a large number of mice in the USA? Every wireless mouse I’ve bought has a normal battery…
Only the very low end in my experience use AA or AAA. Which one do you have?
I've seen plenty of mid to high end mice that come with rechargeable AA batteries and a USB charging port.
After this post I've seen some. They flew under my radar until today. For the next one I'll consider that feature
