Never knew it was a body double. I'll probably forget it was in about 15 mins. Then continue to not care. I still remember that Shame Bell though. Classic lol

scorned her on social media

Another case of the smallest minority creating the loudest noise. Of course the people who would be upset over a body double would be losing their shit over it. They bitch about everything.

Ive fallen in love with this woman

Definitely men bad gross, for sure for sure.

Buuuuut... I think the real villains are the other men, not the ones getting angry and entitled, but the network execs and ad companies, most of whom are men, that tease here and there, and promote scantily clad photos on billboards or magazines, or write articles or press releases to tempt people.

Sex sells, they say, but sex only sells if you have a market of sex-starved marks who have enough pressure built up over the years of campaigns that when they hear Actress A that's been all over the place nearly slips a nip in this one, they're like "well shit, I've gotta see that"

I don't blame the actresses. Their industry has told them they only get to do their art if it attracts an audience of Men, the only market worth pursuing somehow even in the far flung future of 2026, so the women that want to be allowed to act have to give the men at the ad companies and film studios what they want. And what they want is a career timeline from demure to saucy to scandalous to breasts to nude so each film release can play on pushing the envelope just slightly further than the last one, capitalizing on the demand built up by the previous release, and they can ride that rollercoaster for as long as possible before having to pick another girl.

And the sexually frustrated target men are victims of a different kind. Not of the women, as the incels would have you believe, but of the other men. Because by and large, the women don't want to be in sex scenes, they don't want to flash tatas, or have yet another shower scene for no damn reason. They want to tell stories that are meaningful and emotional and resonant. But so often they're tools for Powerful Men to steal money from Powerless Men, used up and cast aside. And then the frustrated jackasses get mad at the women for it. It's a win-win...

And to be clear, I'm not saying women should be ashamed of their bodies and stay covered up at all times. Quite the opposite! The "pressure" comes from repression. We can walk through a store full of magazines with half-naked people on them, and it would be easy to say "look how liberated this all is, there's skin everywhere", but it's not liberation, it's sexualization. Because it isn't casual skin, it's not relaxed, it's created specifically to titilate, to produce demand, to build pressure.

I have no data on this, but I presume actresses aren't being accosted by naturalists/nudists. They're probably not getting hate mail by people embedded within a kink community. The people with, in my biased view, outlets and balance, with respect for sex and bodies, aren't as susceptible to the machine.

Well, I should have gone to bed an hour ago, because apparently I'm in a mood. 😅

I also love this take. Keep up the mood rants!

Yeah!! Your mood is awesome! But yeah sleep hygiene is tough

I remember the countdown people had for when Maisie Williams was 18 and could do a nude scene and just being so disappointed in fellow men. I just can't understand the shameless entitlement some have.

What always gets me about these creepy countdowns.

They ALSO act like it means everything is now fair game.

Like "Look at this photoshop of a 2 year old photo, but its cool now because she is 18, nevermind she was not in THIS photo."

Its fucking gross.

And if it wasn't gross enough, I'm pretty sure her character still wasn't meant to be 18.

I remember being in the car with my father, and in the month or so leading up to the Olsen twins turning 18, it seemed like all his talk radio channels just switched to how much all these 50+ year old guys calling into afternoon sports shows couldn't wait until they could finally have their shot at seducing them without it automatically getting them criminal charges, and how they'd been waiting for this for years since the twins were so hot. It was gross and weird AF, even for the time.

Same thing happens for any young actress. It's societal rot and cancerous fed by the media's obsession with celebrity and sex.

There was also a Hermoine countdown.

And before that the olson twins.

Eww

I didn't care for GoT, but I loved her in Dredd. And she didn't get naked there; if she had, it would have ruined the movie. Lena should be a leading actor in Hollywood, but alas, the pedos are in charge.

I watched 2.5 seasons of GoT before I gave up. I thought it sucked, far too much violence and nudity that DID NOT add to the story. If you like GoT, good for you. But for me, it's shit.

It's definitely shit but well funded shit. For me it was worth it just to see the sets and costumes.

Yeh it was expected for quite a few of the female leads…but not of the men. She has a fair point, in terms of fans voicing this. Her body her choice.

Expected of whom? From what it seems all of the actors/actresses were offered a double, and some didn't accept them. This actress was pregnant during the walk of shame filming, so both the directors and her wanted a body double. (I wanted to be mad at the directors/studio... But couldn't find anything about an actress saying they weren't offered a double)

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/nov/20/emilia-clarke-game-of-thrones-nude-scenes-were-terrifying

Emilia Clarke has revealed she felt uncomfortable acting in some of her nude scenes in Game Of Thrones.

. . .

Clarke, who was 23 when she started filming Game Of Thrones, said she would be in tears before shooting certain “terrifying” nude scenes.

. . .

“I’ve never been on a film set like this before. I’d been on a film set twice before then, and I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me, and I don’t know what you want, and I don’t know what I want.

“Regardless of there being nudity or not, I would have spent that first season thinking I’m not worthy of requiring anything. I’m not worthy of needing anything at all.”

She later demanded fewer nude scenes. It probably would've gone a lot differently with an intimacy coordinator advocating for her on set.

So she was offered a body double for nude scenes (before any nude scenes was filmed in season 1), turned it down without understanding how many scenes she would film. Yeah an intamacy coordinator probably would have been best for all nude scenes on the show. But I wouldnt say she wasn't offered a double, it sounds like she wishes once she realized how many scenes were being shot nude she said get a double sooner. As she went on to later to do nude scenes in the series because she wanted more control over the character during those scenes.

That said, taking the role of a young woman in an incestuous family who you know gets raped in the first season and aspires to work her way to the thrown currently held by an incestuous brother/sister fucking family... The pressures had to by high as a young actress to not say I don't want to be remembered for performing those sex scenes.

But being offered a body double doesn't mean there wasn't expectation or pressure. It's being presented a script and being told 'This is the scene. Do you want to do the work or do you want someone else to do it?' Her portrayal of the character is not just her face and voice. It's how she embodies the character, including her movement. It's understandable to not want important parts of that portrayal performed by someone else. There's also immense pressure on young actors, especially women, to not be a source of friction on set. People who get a reputation for being "difficult" struggle to find work.

I don't think this is necessarily the fault of studios or directors. Pressure isn't just using power to compel behaviour. I'm sure most of the people she worked with would have been horrified to find out she felt that way. It just takes more than having nice people on set to overcome that power imbalance. The situation could have been writers and directors thinking that she'd say something if she felt uncomfortable and her feeling like it's not appropriate for her to say something. Even assuming best intentions from everyone, it was still a shitty outcome for her. An important part of an intimacy coordinator's job is to be friction on set to take the burden off those performers. And instead of it being a question of whether she or someone else will do the work, the question becomes, "how can we construct this scene so our performers feel safe and comfortable?"

I never thought the scenes with Emilia Clarke fully naked were needed. They didn’t add anything to the story. Any intent could have been done in a different way, I’m glad tv shows are gwtting past the age of adding the obligatory sex scene where 9/10 times it’s a young female who is on display.

I will note GOT was somewhat different in that some men were also fully naked, but that was for more violent effect (Alfie Allen) or mockery (hodor). Not saying that’s a good reason either. Curious if they felt pressure to do it? Also curious if the fans have made comments about those appearances.

I felt her walking out of fire with clothes burnt away looked awesome

Who would watch that walk of shame scene and be all “I wish it wasn’t a double, that scene makes me so horny, I’m going to send her hate mail and post online!”

These people need to touch grass.

You know what they say, when people tell you who they are, listen. Frickin gross ass people.

What did she expect?

I personally didn't like GoT because of the nudity but a lot of people loved that aspect. And when a show features so much nudity, it creates an expectation and sets a standard for the series. Someone who willingly signed up for this deserves the the outrage for not meeting the standard. But that ultimately doesn't mean she should be forced to do it, just that she shouldn't be "shocked" given what the show is.

I don't get this line of thought. Does that mean we need to be mad that Hodor or Arya didn't get naked too? It just sounds like you're saying that because there's some nudity people are owed nudity from all the actors.

Basically when a piece of art is radical, expect a radical response. So being "shocked" is silly to me. That's all.

There are plenty of shows where people appear nude, so what makes GoT "radical"? And why would it being radical justify people demanding to see the actors nude?

I never said it justifies it, I just said it is expected because that's how people are. So being shocked about it is ridiculous to me. It's bad, but don't be "shocked" after being a part of a piece of radical art.

Ok however you want to phrase it you're still dancing around the meaning of radical and how it creates this expectation.

In this case the meaning of radical is the presentation of intense nudity usually in the form of incest. I hope that cleared it up.

FYI her character goes nude in the scene, they just used a body double.

Still understand the anger?

That's dumb

It actually doesn't change what I think and maybe even further strengthens what I believe. GoT is a very sexual show which can create a lot of weird behavior from the audience. A huge aspect of it is literally porn and it's not hard to realize that a lot of viewers are there for the porn. When those are your viewers, I can see a lot of people acting irrationally.

It's the same irrational mentality with people who think parents can only love their children if they are biological. I've come to accept that a good chunk of people have a hard time grasping sexual and biological ideas in general. So if a show dares to delve into these topics, then they should expect and prepare for irrational behavior.

Honestly I fucking hate that show. I watched the first episode and had to turn it off. It’s literally just porn.

https://youtu.be/EUBiOOx0Pxw nsfw audio

Idk what that is but the thumbnail looks like porn

It's a comedy skit NSFW audio

There's like one sex scene in the first episode, no?

Have you never actually seen porn, or...?

Dude it’s a full nude sex scene in the very first episode. And more and more and more every fucking episode afterward. Tv shows don’t do that . Have you watched tv?

You're gonna break that pearl necklace if you keep clutching it like that.

You were specifically talking about the first episode, so I'm not sure why the rest are relevant even if they were pornographic (they weren't). You said yourself that you turned it off after the first episode.

Jesus Christ, how am I here defending Game of Thrones, I'm not even a big fan of the show.

But no, not every episode had sex and/or nudity. You only watched one episode, so everything else you're saying is based on hearsay.

As someone who read the books, then watched the show, but also watches pornography from time to time, the comparison is fucking stupid.

World class actors, world class story based on books by a world class author sometimes shows people having sex..

I ask you again: have you literally never seen pornography before? It's fine if you haven't, but it would explain your confusion.

eh, doesnt get gratuitous till the back half when they run out of book to adapt.

any media presenting aristocracy without orgies/various types of sexual proclivities/deviancy/rape etc. just isnt true to form, it's an inherent part of the system. (hence "The Aristocrats" being the original joke)

You think the premise of the aristocrats is because nobles fuck a lot?

Im sorry but if a show is 90% nudity and their audience demands more of it… its porn

Confident ignorance is so hot right now

Men Who Don't Give a Shit About the Person They Masturbate To Suddenly Angry They Masturbated To the Wrong Person.

I mean, I could understand some horndog weirdo being disappointed, but mad? Definitely the kind of people that need to be on a list... On that list when you're in front of a judge for SA anything? Congrats, you get the max!

Eew. Go watch porn.

I remember my mom asking me to be at her watch party for the finale (I didn’t watch the show). At the end of the episode, one of her male friends made a comment about being disappointed by the lack of nudity. It was gross to hear that.

Didn’t she go nude? I was pretty sure she did.

RTFA:

Headey found herself in the middle of backlash when she decided to use a body double in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 during her character’s naked walk of shame. When it was revealed that a body double and some CGI were used for the nude scene, some “Thrones” fans scorned her on social media.

Tons of CGI and body doubles for nudes in movies and tv.

Ahaa…

Though Headey would perform the walk herself, a nude body double would walk next to her, and Headey's head would later be superimposed onto the double's body using CGI. https://www.looper.com/262897/the-truth-about-filming-cersei-lannisters-walk-of-shame-on-game-of-thrones/

She was naked during the shame walk wasn't she?

No, body double.

Ah. Oh well

She was pregnant during the shooting, so apparently, so they shot her neck up and used a body double

Good for her. Wasn't one of her first scenes getting railed by her brother? To start like that, and last the entire series without showing skin, that's impressive

That's really sad. All I remember thinking was they did a bad job on the CGI and that it was further indicative of how badly the show was beginning to fall apart despite the best efforts of all the actors involved.

I didn't even notice at the time. I guess I could watch it again to see but I really don't give a shit

Dunno who this person is, and this isn't a criticism just something I noticed that struck me as interesting - her wide jaw and prominent lower lip remind me of marionettes in old "supermarionation" shows like Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5.
