(original article in Swedish that reported this)

Posting this because I hadn't heard about it before and I'm probably not the only Mullvad user here, so might as well.

I'm not Swedish, but going off NATOpedia, it seems like the party is basically reinventing fascism from first principles:

The party claims to stand for a "class-conscious populism" which according to party leader Markus Allard takes inspiration from marxist ideology and unites the "productive" classes of society against the "Transferiat", with the "Transferiat" being a term coined by Allard to describe the classes of society that lives off transfers that are a net negative for society such as those who, despite having an ability to work, live off social welfare benefits, as well as those who work "made-up services"[...]

The party differs from modern day left-wing parties by seeing the working class as co-dependent with people working in enterprise and business and instead sees the classes that "live off transfers", as specified, as a large economic net-negative and an obstacle for a functional society.

Their ideology is nonsense fake-marxist revisionism to redirect anger at capitalism and turn it against immigrants and people who need social welfare (though they do back some generally left oriented social policies, their main thing appears to be racism)

Even if you're comfortable with funding this, it still begs the question of just how trustworthy Mullvad actually is.

I guess this still beats any of the dozens of Israeli VPNs that definitely spy on you, but it's not great

Being outraged over this goes against the spirit of VPN / privacy. Y'all people are buying literal CP on VPNs and this is supposed to the smoking gun? Show me any other VPN service that has passed audits countless times and can be paid for with cash. Conspiracy hat on, something about this smells like gov "exposing" controversy in order to kill actually private VPN services.

He's single handedly funding them too, it's not like it is just a small contribution. Yikes.

Any alternatives with the same option for anonymity? You can send mullvad cash in an envelope or buy a voucher.

AirVPN accepts various crypto including Monero through no intermediary, that would probably be your best bet.

Nice thank you

Ah it’s libertarian “producerism” with a faux left veil

according to their website they seem to be incompetent at everything, unable to even list their political positions, and whining about people asking when they will list their positions (apparently this year is an election year).

on another page they are whining about how students and other people will not get in touch with their politicians and the politicians will not answer any questions.

this party is some kind of ron-swansonite project with right-populist tendencies? combatting the wasteful inefficient bureaucrat-politician class by being the worst, most inefficient politicians they can? and apparently they get thousands of votes in local elections in their small city? cool, sweden

Being extremely pro- free speech to the point of defending the indefensible while being extremely opposed to any other form of liberty

Marxist ideology my ass, that's straight up national socialism.

..and the more terms for groups of people that you suffix with 'eriat', the more communist it is

humanity has been divided into two great camps: the goonsoisie and celibateriat

Re proton

We're running out of VPN's we can use...

Host your own on a VPS, it's very easy

Okay... Show, don't tell.

I Run AmneziaVPN server on a VPS. I'm not a Linux person and even then the setup was extremely easy, a matter of downloading an installer, putting in the server login and IP, and it gets auto configured. It costs me about 5€/month, my VPS is in Spain.

Oof, this keeps getting worse.

To some extent WHO’S FAULT IS THAT?!? The porks don’t want to make jobs, so of course people will be on benefits. The least the porks can do in compensate those they deem as “useless” for discarding them.

Every FUCKING time. Every slightest difference from the norm they treat as a crime punishable by death, but porky gorging himself? “D’awww shucks poors, can’t we all sing kumbayah together?”

Back in the 90s neonazis invested like 10k on the internet, and it shows every damn day. I wonder what nonsense other vpns have that hasn't yet been brought up to light.

I am moving more and more towards the thought that I should not be using the internet anymore. Atleast outside of mandatory things like for work and paying bills.

I did look into this a bit. So it was one of the co-founders that donated. He gave them 500k USD which as 72% of their budget for that year. He said he liked their forced deportation policies (they want to deport even citizens if they don't have "ties to sweden") The other co-founder said they "didn't like that he made the donation", and the company did try to distance themselves from it, but being that it's 1 of the 2 co-founders who still own the company 50/50 that doesn't matter much imo.

letsVPN has been crap recently, I'm on HK esim for now, but I heard Mullvad was a good provider that works in China. Besides Astrill (pricey) what would any sinobears recommend as an alternative?

What you need is not technically a VPN but a proxy service, commonly known as an "airport". The difference between a VPN and an airport is mostly technical, all you need to know is that the focus is different: VPNs just hide the contents of your traffic from your ISP, but don't hide the fact that you're using a VPN. Airports use different protocols (Shadowsocks, VLESS, Trojan, etc.) focused on hiding the fact that you're using a proxy in the first place.

Most airports don't have their own client apps so they work with generic clients, the most common of which is Clash in its various forms (the core clash-kernel implementation is open source software, most GUI apps based on it are also FOSS but not all of them are). If you need help picking a version of Clash for a specific platform lmk. Usually once you sign up to an airport you get a private URL which you paste into Clash to create a configuration and you're ready to go.

Regarding specific providers the landscape changes all the time and I'm not very up to date. Last time I was in China I used one called Nexitally (dot com) which is still active and was quite good, but it was a couple years ago and I don't know if it's still reliable now. Anyway if you search stuff like "best clash airports 2026" you should find lists with a bunch of options.

As a heads up, airports are quite a bit more expensive than normal VPNs and usually have traffic caps (15-20USD/month for 500GB would be a normal price, for reference). Also, their websites generally don't look like VPNs, they will market themselves as "network accelerators" or some other buzzword. They have to keep a lower profile than normal VPNs so they won't directly tell you "we help you scale the wall", you need a bit of experience to figure out what service they're actually providing if you don't already know. Also remember to download Clash and set up the airport while you're still on your HK esim or outside the mainland, their websites might not be reachable from inside the wall.

Also for @departee@hexbear.net.

not a vpn but some users on here have been talking about vless, if someone has a guide for dummies I'd be interested too

He also criticised the Sweden Democrats for, according to him, allowing too many immigrants into the country

When the Nazi party isn't Nazi enough for you

goddamn it what VPN am I supposed to use now

edit: stop upbearing me and make a suggestion, I'm serious.

I've been using AirVPN for a long time and I'm quite happy with their service.

This really does suck. In all honesty, I don't feel safe using a VPN that doesn't accept cash as a payment method. Everything digital is too traceable, crypto included. Far as I'm aware no other VPN provider accepts it.

airvpn

iVPN or Proton?

didnt proton have some fash too

2 months left on my yearly sub. thanks for the heads up, ill definitely be going elsewhere

Bad timing for just having prepaid over a year last week.

Rip :/ i was recommending mullvad to a few people at work

Fuuuuuuck

Well, shit

God fucking dammit - well my account still has 111 days on it, I'll reconsider when that time gets closer.

That's a real shame, Mullvad is great service-wise...

write yourself a reminder so you don't forget this horror in the endless churn of horrors

Brb adding another row to Endless_Churn_of_Horrors.xlsx

.xlsx 👀

Hey, at least it's not .xls

Don't worry I'm editing it in LibreOffice Calc

Last elections in The Netherlands I browsed the policy proposals of Geert Wilders' PVV party and it struck me how a lot of them seemed more explicitly progressive than those on the liberal left. Then again, the outer facade of the NSDAP leaned into the same meme, which could be boiled down to: What if socialism, but not for those people?

People actually observing the PVV in action will note, though, that the 'fight against the rights of undesirable people' item on the agenda tends to take precedence over all the other campaign promises.
