Tell me you're white without telling me you're white.
No shade to fair folks who are fair cooks, but I ain't never seen a person with melanin who does not know that cooked veggies are a thing. It's always the pigmentally challenged.
Peas and carrots are too full of sugar. I mean, they’re better than chips or candy bars by a long shot, but minimizing them or mixing peas and carrots with other less sugary veg is a better idea.
Good grief, can we stop shaming people for eating the "wrong types of vegetables" as if that's even a thing? Just be happy they're eating any at all.
Dam, better go eating drywall.
Yeah this is silly and cringe but eating frozen fruits while they're still frozen is amazing.
So true! I really think that banana, grapes and pineapple work particularly well when frozen 🤤
What fruits do you enjoy frozen?
boobewwy :3
My processing speed is embarrassing today.
Also, my good sir, boobewwy is not a fwuit. Tis a bewwy. You're cheating!
But I'm sure it is delicious.
Bewwies are fwuit.
Nay!!! They are bewwies, bish! ... tbf, so are bananas, but that is besides the point!!
Can you fwiggin believe it? Apples, pears, tomatoes and lemons are technically considered bewwies? The wules are stupid.
My father likes to tell this tale of when he made fried spaghetti because he was a poor student and his buddy liked it so much that he asked how to make them. My father replied "Like normal spaghetti. But you fry them in a pan."
That's what he did. Instead of cooking he fried the dry spaghetti in a pan.
My dad tried frying frozen peas once. Turned the kitchen into Viet goddamn Nam. I still have flashbacks.
I actually love frozen peas because they can easily be thrown into whatever I'm currently making. Especially something like fried rice.
Of course, just frying them alone is probably pretty difficult.
tbf this exsists

...and is awesome.
Italians also do it. Although they put tomatoes in and smash them first.
Legitimately I've snacked on frozen veggies in the hot summer. Anyways, just get all your macros and take in fewer calories than you burn and you'll lose weight.
Belongs in the category of things you know once somebody told you. I think we all have little things that nobody has ever taught us and everyone else knows.
Very in character for anon.
I knew a guy like this. He said he didn't like sunflower seeds for the same reason he didn't like shrimp. "Too crunchy". Apparently he was eating the shell and all of both of these things...
For most of my life I willingly ate them shell and all
Did he like bananas?
You take of the skin? Such a waste.. that's where all the electrolytes are.
It's what plants crave.
No, but he loved coconuts
Crunchy!
Okay but a properly fried shrimp is peak with the shell on. Good snappy crunch to it, they help hold the flavor in, wonderful. And for tails I usually don't even care how they're cooked I just go ahead and eat the tails shell in saves a lot of hassle and they're pretty good
Also a good source of [compound that lubricates your joints].
Olive oil
Mmmm bone lube
Depends on the shrimp.
I had that experience with lychees. Nobody told me you weren't supposed to eat the crunchy center!
I had the opposite experience eating pomegranate the first time. So fucking delicious, but the pips were an unsettling crunch/texture that I couldn't get over. However, it's too much work to remove the pulp from the pips, so no fresh pomegranate for me. :(
You can always collect the juice, or just buy it. Pomegranate is great, but it's mostly just juice with seeds. Orange is very different than orange juice, for example, but pomegranate isn't.
The way I eat pomegranate is like popcorn meets sunflower seeds.
Take a few of the pearls, pop them in my mouth, break the water balloon with gentle chewing that doesn't break the seed, suck out the juice, spit the seed. Sometimes I’ll fidget and peel the pulp off with my teeth, is not much, but it’s a nice mindless activity to occupy my brain
Pom is a flavored water fruit rather than a chew and swallow fruit. You don’t miss much leaving the pulp behind (and I'm not talking about the white rind) because theres not much of it to begin with. Its ideal for brainless time like watching movies. The prep is pretty easy, too, since the pearls tend to fall off pretty easily into a bowl, perfect for mindless snacking.
Its not bad once you realize the structure of the pomegranate. It also helps if you leave it in the refrigerator.
I'd love advice for being able to enjoy a pomegranate. Does the pulp peel off the pip better if it's cold?
Yes, it also helps if theyre not overripe. The secret is knowing where to pull so an entire section of pulp or pips pulls away.
Sometimes I intentionally eat the shells of sunflower seeds. So tasty and crunchy
Yeah, til you have to shit them out the next day.
But that's how you eat sunflower seeds. You don't chew or swallow the shell, but you put it in your mouth and crack it with your teeth.
Nah I confirmed. He was just tossing them in his mouth and eating them whole. This is how the conversation came to be in the first place. He was a work friend and I offered him some sunflower seeds and he said "nah man too crunchy" and that unravelled the whole thing. He was a pretty sheltered guy, eating mostly processed garbage and nobody cooked in his house growing up. He was a nice guy just pretty oblivious at times. I once got him to eat one of those Airborne capsules you put in water and drink as a chewable.
I won't dog on them since the context implies this is ESL, but seeing "etc." punctuated as though it's an acronym is unholy.
Extra Truncated Cases
Why did you have to point it out? I didn't even notice until you did!
If their first language is a Romance language it still isn't an excuse, because "etc" comes from the Latin.
tbf, ignorance is something you giggle at once, before getting over it and educating them. Hopefully OP and their friend got over it and managed some actual change
Yes, but also... bruh...
I love frozen fruit and veg! If you've never tried it then don't knock it
Me too! When I was a kid, my grandmother would give me a little bowl of frozen peas and corn to snack on. Now I give my kids the same and they strongly prefer them cold.
I work with a kid who really likes cold sensations in his mouth (autism, this kind of experience isn't uncommon.) At snack time he eats frozen peas and frozen blueberries.
Which is why when I recently cooked with frozen peas, I tried a few before cooking. I get it, I'm a fan of peas and the novel texture of them being frozen was interesting. I didn't love it enough to make a new snack out of it, but you're right - you never know until you try.
Try frozen fruit. Dude, so good. Frozen cherries, frozen pineapple, frozen mango, mmmmm
Totally gay, because office bro was totally hoping to get some booty.
But damn if I can't believe this is true. I've met people that are that unaware of that kind of thing. Shit, I once had to teach a 76 year old man how to operate a can opener because up until then, his wife had done all kitchen stuff.
I started the case maybe two weeks before and had been doing the meal prep because home health. One morning, I show up and my man is stabbing at the top of a can with an old butcher knife. I freak out a little because, damn, dude needs a nurse's assistant, so an already less than ideal tool was crazy dangerous. Also, dude had decided to ignore the nicely arranged food I had cooked the day before, which is story in itself.
So I dig through the drawers and find a shitty old can opener. Show him how to use it, and Bob's your uncle. Mostly.
Dude wasn't senile, believe it or not. Just not the brightest crayon in the box and woefully a product of his generation. Nice guy though! Not always the case on a case.
I swear some people act so fucking alien about life, like they had not learned some of the most basic things, or lack what you would consider to be the most obvious social skills.
I think some families just royally fucked up their kids heads growing up.
The bag (usually) has cooking instructions written on the it...
Ignorance I can forgive, but lack of curiosity is inexcusable.
