It might sound weird but when i'm cussing out another drivers stupidity... I disassociate the human in the vehicle and basically am just cussing out the car.
Cars (and other vehicles) do weird things to us psychologically.
On a personal level, the car becomes an extension of your own body. Think about what people tend to say after an accident: ‘You hit me’, not ‘you hit my car’ unless they weren’t inside.
For others, as you say, it has the inverse effect - they make it easy for us to forget there’s a human inside, which can lead to more aggressive behaviour.
Using turn signals requires no emotional bandwidth, so I don’t excuse not using them.
even if it did require emotional bandwidth it's a bare minimum standard to safely operate a vehicle
Yeah, if what you’re going through is so bad that you can’t operate your vehicle properly, you shouldn’t be behind the wheel at all.
There’s going through shit and being extra vulnerable to normal interactions, and then there’s going through shit and taking it out on people around you.
Those who take their shit out on others don’t deserve to be treated like they’re going through shit. They deserve to be treated like they’re taking shit out on others.
If people in other cars could hear me, I probably wouldn't say such mean things about them. But until we all have CB radios, I'm gonna keep telling people to wrap their stupid trucks around trees
I remember a standup back in the day who wanted people’s license plates to be their phone number so you could call them

my father used to scream at me when he was teaching me to drive that using turn signals is for pussies.
