Context: JJ McCullough is a ian Ameriboo, who, on shitter, once known as twitter, hates Quebec and first, who may or may not think some superificial similtiaries of a country to another makes them practically have the same culture

But that being said, Idk why Noah Smith the neocon and neolib is yapping about, of alien cultures...

::: spoiler Transcript

Noah Smith

Canada seems like it tried to imitate American wokeness (as it imitates American everything), but wokeness didn't really fit Canadian society as well (because it has no large permanent-underclass minority), so it mutated into something very toxic and bizarre.

J.J. McCullough @JJ_McCullough

Sick of this take. Canada and the US share a common culture. Canadians don't "import" US ideas anymore than say, lowa "imports" conservatism from New York or whatever. Canada has a right and a left just like every other place. Canadian leftists come to their beliefs sincerely.

Noah Smith

We don't really share a culture

J.J. McCullough @JJ_McCullough

What an absurd thing to say. Yes we absolutely do.

@Noahpinion

We both have a bunch of white people and speak English and stuff, but the cultures are deeply alien

manufacturing consent to invade KKKlanada is underway?

a lot of people don't know this, but the Canadian National Anthem "O Canada" was written by an American in 1997.

his name was Jack "Neckbone" Utah and he played Mayor McCheese in a high school musical about Pearl Harbor.

Say I'm beginning to think this Noah Smith fellow isn't the brightest.

this is like when you get 2 chatbots to talk to each other

USA and Canada share exactly as much culture as Germany and Austria - they are 99% the same and pride themselves on this 1% difference.

USA-Canada, Germany-Austria, and probably other examples like Norway-Sweden, Finland-Estonia, Netherlands-Belgium A, France-Belgium B, Czechia-Slovakia, 75% of former Yugoslavia, all call themselves "separate countries" but they are much more similar to each other than say two neighbouring states/provinces in India or China are

If anything, because Canada still has a well funded public arts program, and because there is nothing more industry loves than labor and talent they don't have to train, we have imported about as much Canadian culture in the U.S. It's just that everything is so similar between the two places, especially as you move up into the northern states, that one could easily mistake it for 'Americanization'.

This is funny because so many reactionary influencers in the US are Canadian

Aye, I can name a couple, they have Jordan Peterson, Steven Crowder, Gavin McInnes, Ezra Levant

Ted Cruz is too

Canada seems like it tried to imitate American wokeness (as it imitates American everything), but wokeness didn't really fit Canadian society as well (because it has no large permanent-underclass minority), so it mutated into something very toxic and bizarre.

What the fuck did he mean by this

He meant that he's never thought about Canada ever before this very moment

There, there. Neither of you have a culture

JJ is a gay anti monarchist conservative. his core identity is being middle class. you literally do not need to know anything else.

anti-monarchist seems redundant. Like most people don't support monarchy in 2026 right? Does he emphasize that for some reason? Like is his whole shtick that the monarchies of the world must be wiped out?

I suspect anti-monarchist conservatives in Canada don't like it when treaties signed with the indigenous by them are used to hold up the barest minimum of native rights and fantasize getting rid of the monarchy as a way to clean the slate and do more colonialism.

gay anti monarchist conservative.

Living breathing cumtown bit

tbf this is a fairly normal combination of positions in countries with monarchies / part of the commonwealth. I know two people in my personal life who fit this archetype, they're just older David Cameron-esque socially progressive, fiscally conservative educated upper-middle class small c conservatives who believe in small government and reducing the power of the monarchy along with it.

its less common than it used to be but there's still a few of them bumping around

Another one for the pit

McCullough is such a twat. Literally does a fake "aboot" accent (which nobody actually has here) to gin up his "Canadianness" on his youtube channel.

Credit where credit is due though, his video on the Falung Gong cult is really good.

I love to prove what a Canadian I am by doing a Milwaukie accent

(being a tool)

Literally does a fake "aboot" accent

Meanwhile I do a fake (but very convincing) southern accent because I love playing up my cowgirl aesthetic and am a theatre kid who only interacts with people mostly outside california in voice chats online. Also just to fuck with people.
