Counterpoint I want as much estrogen as possible :3

(yes ik neither milk nor soy will give me enough I need estrodoil)

*affect

Plus, *whereas

I eat a lot of soy protein and it definitely seems to help my estrogen levels. Not by much (like turn you into a woman) but it definitely helps.

Men need estrogen, anyways.

Note to remember: an entrenched belief has never been changed with anything less than a primary source, and even then it's rare.

So uh, what are the effects of this cow Estrogen? I can imagine it is not so straight-forward as it seems, and has unfortunate side-effects.

Before a lengthy discussion takes off: red meat causes colon cancer. And it is a climate killer. And the cows don’t like the entire idea either.

Okay but what if I'm an accellerationist who hates climate wants suffering and hates the taste and texture of meat do I have to eat it or what

No, you can just buy it and place it directly in the landfill. Actually, that sounds like a lot of work for you. Just send me the money and I'll do it for you.

Thank you I appreciate you

Grab a coleslaw, junior.

Nooooooooo I wanted the potatooooooesss

Then you become an anti-vegan who doesn't eat meat, I suppose. Just awkwardly change the subject if someone asks why you're ordering tofu.

But I like red meat.

This comment section is full of "cow-tits-sucking-contest enjoyers". Be aware of that.

If only getting estrogen were this easy...

Right? I can think of a few people who would want to live on soy if it worked.

Facts 💯

More estrogen you say...

But it only binds to the beta receptors, not alpha receptors much: https://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-eat-soy/

I pointed this out and just got "nu uh" and "well the plants have more, and it does affect you!"

tbf you’d need to drink a fuckton of milk for it to meaningfully feminize you lol (by my calculations, more than 900000 glasses a day, but i may be wrong on the details)

same goes for soy milk, really. even if phytoestrogens had an effect you’d need to drink ungodly amounts of milk to see anything, especially if you don’t also take antiandrogens

my feelins don't care about your facts

It’s true. My cats do not give a shit about facts.

Well i like it, stop preaching.

Don't know what to tell you, you're in a vegan community

Fucking carnivores coming in here and talking about how much they love meat why would they do that? Why would you do that, @fatvegan@leminal.space you vile fucking blood mouth murderer

I assume they meant that they like the estrogen

This is just a description of when I pointed it out to friends who buy the "soy makes you effeminate" bullshit. Not sure what you think I'm preaching.

Phytoestrogens absolutely bind to estrogen receptors and do affect the body. While not as potent, it still mimics estrogen.

The comparison here is like saying psilocin doesn't bind to serotonin receptors because it isn't serotonin.

Since any other reference probably wouldn't work here, have one from one of those holistic medicine places: https://denverholisticmedicine.com/blog/2018/5/17/phytoestrogens-friend-or-foe

You shouldn't need to spread misinformation to promote a hobby.

A hobby? You mean morality? Lmao.

https://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-eat-soy/

Please take a look at this. If you are genuinely concerned with health, and nutrition and are wanting to base your ideas in science. You'll realize that you are the one spreading misinformation.

Our points were the same? The meme states that phytoestrogens "don't effect the body because you aren't a plant", which is absolutely false.

I agree with your first point and I really dislike the amount of misinformation flowing around on both sides, but spending even a little time online will show that is just humans being humans on any topic.

Since any other reference probably wouldn't work here, have one from one of those holistic medicine places

I’m not sure if I’m reading it right, but are you saying that people here, so vegans, don’t trust normal scientific evidence and are only here to reinforce their beliefs by excluding proper evidence? That sounds kind of patronising and implies people are only vegan because of their biased world view instead of proper ethics and science.

[…] to promote a hobby.

This also sounds dismissive of veganism and rude towards people that try their best to reduce harm in a part of their life. Vegans do it because they see it as necessary to live ethically consistent. This is not something done for ✨fun✨.

I would recommend leaving these unnecessary remarks out of your comments if you want to address misinformation such as in this post more effectively while also coming off more respectful.

We all know science understanding can only happen when you eat brains and plants don't have brains but I shouldn't expect a vegan to understand that since they haven't eaten any brains recently

You're defending a patronizing meme and demanding respect where there was none to begin with.

I’m not defending the meme at all. I agreed with the point immediately in the first sentence. I just interpreted the tone of some remarks to be a bit condescending and gave a recommendation based on my opinion on that. Do with it what you want. I’m not here to force any view onto you.

Drink water

Judging by that condensation it's humid AF in that room

Down in one, homie.

starts chugging cows milk

Not your mom, not your milk.

I think its ajoke about wanting tits and being willing to do anything to get them not fetishizing animal protein

Perhaps you shouldn't shame memes that have such convincing arguments in favor of chugging cows milk /hj

Give me a break on that. We watch videos all the time of different animals cross-nursing. Puppies feeding on momma cat's teats. Kitties nursing momma dog teat's.

Even humans breastfeeding other mammals.

That whole "not your mom" smacks of caste purism that doesn't represent reality. It is an adaptive advantage for the whole class mammals to share milk.

You do realize though, that this is a completely different situation? In one case the milk is given voluntarily to a baby.

I've absolutely given milk voluntarily to an adult woman. It's not impossible.

Okay, have fun!

sure but

share milk

share, don't steal. it's a big difference whether we help each other or enslave and exploit each other

Lol

This along with the comments only reinforced my impression that the point of veganism is to feel bigger and better than everyone else.

Does it though, or is this just your canned response when someone challenges one of your views?

I'm all for my views being challenged. Vegetarianism is perfectly fine for me. It's a sensible, more environmentally conscious and healthy lifestyle (whether intermittent or not). Veganism, on the other hand, is an ideology I don't support. It's rigid and inherently elitist. Whether intended or not, it stokes fundamentalism and fanaticism (as in the examples I've mentioned in another post), and also does not provide all the essential nutrients humans need (according to WHO, Warwick Medical school, Gibbs, Capuccio etc). My view of veganism is based on learning everything I can about what veganism is and deciding that this is something I do not support.

I thought the comments reinforced my impression that everybody wants to grow bigger boobs.

Maybe I want them bigger than everyone else's?

Moar estrogen!

The point is to reduce harm.

Reduce harm, you say? Yes, I see.

Cherry picked examples of people doing individual things rather than what Veganism actually means.

Cherry picking - lemmys/reddits favorite fallacy. All it does is undermine the entire logic of the opposing person. Its always the rare, individual, sideline stories.

Ok. Veganism harms less animals/people overall than meat eating.

Using dead children like that is pretty fucking disgusting.

You mean pointing out the fatal consequences of a fundamentalist approach to an ideology/religion with rigid rules for how people should live their lives? Yeah, pointing that out shouldn't be allowed.

Here I thought it was about trying to be healthy and providing your body with the proper diet it needs.

Can be both. Contrary to popular belief, it's not a hivemind. Lots of folks just come to a similar conclusion from all kinds of motivations.
