"Ah, finally arrived at Anor Londo! Oh wait, I forgot something back in the Parish..."
Mysterious coffins remain as the transport option to unite the generations
Unless it's DS2, then it's
Mysterious coffins remain as the trans~~port~~ option
...or Frigid Outskirts
Fun story: I played DS1 on my last PC and I freaking loved it. It was satisfyingly clunky and just slow enough to really make every hit count.
I loved it.
Then i got my current pc and realized I had been playing at like half the game speed the entire time.
Now Dark Souls is too fast for me lol
That's hilarious. The patience you must have!
I still had to cheese that one boss with the dogs in the tiny courtyard.
Absolutely understandable and reasonable
To be fair, the console versions also ran at half speed, so you should play those, or cap your fps to 15 like Miyazaki intended
If thats what he intended, and my past experience was basically thats pretty cool
I do feel like the lack of fast travel is the reason folks laud DS1 for its interconnected world, though.
Partially, because the devs had to actually make sure to loop everything back around to keep travel distance low. But yeah, also because players actually walked paths more than once and therefore got to know them.
The lack of fast travel got me the most memorable moment in the game: i fought my way through the catacombs inching forwards very slowly on my first play through. But i did make progress through the scary skeleton dog area and the world finally became bright again only for there to be a yellow fog wall i could not interact with. The lack of fast travel made it so i had to fight my way backwards through all that scary stuff again and while that was like 15 years ago i still remember it.
But also yeah I think it forced some good world building to have no fast travel. But part of the charm of the world is also seeing ash lake and lost izalyth through vistas in completely different areas as the whole world was based off being on a big ass tree. I have bought an artwork of that even and put it in a custom made picture frame for 80€
