I legit hate the trend of sound designers sneaking that into media. It immediately pulls me out of the story.

Why would you drop your controller like that in the middle of a game? Unless you play eternal darkness I guess, the only game I have ever thrown away my controller...

Okay, that’s just funny

... the first few times, but then after that...

How often are you dropping your controller?

Frankly, I think this is their way of asking nicely, "Please, take good care of this one in particular— or it'll scream like a magic white boy jungle savior, and nobody wants that, right?" 🤔

Surely there would be a way to disable it altogether

"Hey Steam support uh... I was triggering the easter egg and my controller broke. Hm? Where did I drop it? From the roof."

Also: Will it also scream if shot by a gun? 🤔

Why does a controller have a speaker in it?

Remember those floppy, printer, other old hardware noise music videos? Something like this one. Steam Controller works kind of in a similar way. Tiny motors are able to squeak fast enough to produce multiple waveforms that mimick sound.

It doesn't. The haptic motors which provide vibration and tactile feedback can be used to produce sound.

Doesn't that make them speakers, technically?

I suppose the argument could be made. It's not their primary function though.

I wonder if they function any way similar to the mic/speaker polydirectional thing. 😅

haptic feedback of the touchpads can be used to produce sounds.

Read in a game review that used a PS (?) controller speaker for radio messages that this worked great for immersion

I tried to read it but the Adblock pop up prevented me

I don't see any popup with ublock origin. Anyway, inside the description, I linked the OG youtube video referenced in the article.
