What I don't really understand as a non-US citizen is why no one from the current US regime (except Trump (who has legal immunity, which is already laughable and highly problematic)) got into any sort of legal trouble over any of the unlawful and unconstitutional acts that were done for many months or years now. Even when considering that Trump himself is immune, why does it seem like all the others are immune, too? Is nothing working over there? Is the US justice system already completely and utterly broken? If you steal candy from a random shop you probably get 100% prosecuted (and quickly), but if you act against fundamentally important laws or even the constitution, you just get away with it?
Frank Wilhoit: “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition …There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” This seems increasingly true.
Simply there is no law to charge them with. The system is designed in a way that it is legal for the executive branch, including its subordinates, to act on executive orders. The courts here only serve to correct the order if unconstitutional. There's no criminal law to use.
I suppose you could always go for treason or sedition, but those have a very high threshold.
In China they have cushy prisons for corrupt politicians. The US needs to begin taking a similar tactic of threatening these people with extreme punishment (in China it’s an automatic death sentence, often commuted to life) and putting them prison.
China still has less prisoners than the US, even though they’re harsh on political malfeasance and have a population 5 times that of the United States. We would be a more democratic society if the president could be put in prison.
Did you a word in your first sentence
I am also non US but I suspect it is because the more money and influence you have the justice system will bend over backwards to make sure the no innocent person is put in prison. For the rest of the people they can rot in hell for no reason sometimes... In Europe they don't really imprison the really corrupt but at least you don't see them anymore...
But this just reinforces that old saying that when a moron dumps a big rock in a lake it takes many months and years to take it out and it will not be the same anyway.
Like.. years late for it to be relevant.
One calendar year, 10 lived years.
And the consequences will be.....?
No.
But the nazi salute at the inauguration (remember? 10 years ago today) was fine.
Yeah, that shit needs to be illegal, just like in Germany.
I would wish I hadn't seen that but I will not wish nor will to be a fucking Nazi. I know noing better than to stop learning even while sleeping. I break paradoxes for fun and won't touch that one.
