Below is my weekly summary/preamble, spoilered so that you can get down into the comments more easily.
::: spoiler preamble
I don't think I've ever seen a ceasefire that, for weeks, is so obviously about to be broken at any given moment and yet nonetheless continues. So-called Operation Freedom may mark a resumption of hostilities, as the US seems to once again be trying an active role in attempting to take control of the Strait of Hormuz. The initial, ridiculous claim was that the US Navy would itself be escorting ships (i.e. just getting your destroyers sunk for no reason), and as expected, this was just said to try and calm markets. Nonetheless, there is reporting that other military measures may be taken against Iran soon if they continue to keep the Strait closed, so we'll see how that all goes.
US gas prices at the pump have hit close to record high numbers, and generally the average citizen is growing mightily displeased with Trump, even those in previously safe demographics. Unfortunately, this discontent is not immediately geopolitically relevant - as both parties are staffed from top to bottom with pro-war Zionists with only a small group of exceptions, and third parties will necessarily never be allowed to take power, there is no way for US public discontent to manifest itself in a change of policy. What is more likely to cause changes in policy will be grumbling from American capitalists, of which there are many factions. The fossil fuel capitalists seem perfectly content for this situation to continue indefinitely, with record profits. I imagine the financial sector is pretty nervous, but aren't currently demanding Trump cease fire - same for the tech industry which has now been engulfed in AI, as the bubble seems to be close to, but not quite, popping. Smaller businesses and agriculture are perhaps the most likely to be crying uncle, but may have limited representation.
Going back to Western Asia, the situation from last week has remained broadly the same. The Zionist tactic in Southern Lebanon appears to essentially be "If we can't occupy this land, then you won't be able to, either," as they are doing their utmost to physically destroy as many towns and villages on the border as possible. Hezbollah's success at keeping Zionist territorial gains fairly minimal, and the growing onslaught of not only anti-tank guided missiles but also FPV drones causing chaos where the Zionists attempt to hold and advance, have, I believe, partially contributed to Iran not pushing the issue of a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon so far as to cause them to feel the need to resume fire on the occupied territories.
The US blockade has truly been a mixed affair. While it's obviously quite leaky and many Iranian ships are getting through, Naked Capitalism and others have pointed out that it's not just Iranian ships that are transporting goods, and that there are ~70 Chinese ships with Iranian oil that are much less willing to risk running the blockade. But, once again, the success of the blockade isn't all that relevant. Iran has experienced periods of a couple years straight without meaningful oil exports and survived, and their extensive land borders make a true siege impossible - goods can and are still pouring into the country, and with Pakistan recently allowing Iranian exports through their border, as well as the Caspian Sea in the north and Iran's railway link to China, Iranian exports can still leave just fine. Another interesting indication is that China's government has ordered Chinese businesses to ignore US sanctions against Iranian oil, so we'll see how that develops. And while the issue of maintaining sufficient public cohesion in the wake of economic suffering is a potential long term problem, we haven't yet seen any meaningful scenes of public discontent inside Iran. Internal unity appears to be staying at record levels in the face of total war.
Even being as careful as possible to check my own biases, it's difficult for me to form any other conclusion other than that Iran is winning, and people like Armchair Warlord have even pointed out that American tactical victories have been pretty minimal so far.

Nato meetings with TV and film-makers prompt claims it is seeking ‘propaganda’
Exclusive: Two ‘intimate conversations’ held with writers, directors and producers, with a third due in June
::: spoiler more
Nato is holding closed-door meetings with film and TV screenwriters, directors and producers across Europe and the US, the Guardian can reveal, prompting accusations the alliance is seeking to use the arts to generate “propaganda” for the bloc. The alliance has held three meetings with film and TV professionals in Los Angeles, Brussels and Paris and is due to continue its “series of intimate conversations” next month in London, meeting with screenwriter members of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB), which represents professional writers in the UK. The planned meeting in London has caused consternation among some of those invited, who felt they were being asked to “contribute towards propaganda for Nato”. The topic of conversation at the meeting, to be held under the Chatham House rule – in which participants are free to use information received, but identities of attenders are not revealed – will be the “evolving security situation in Europe and beyond”. Former Nato spokesperson James Appathurai, who is now deputy assistant secretary general for hybrid, cyber and new technology, is understood to be planning to attend, along with other officials from the alliance.
In a WGGB email seen by the Guardian, it was suggested that the meetings had already led to “three separate projects” in development, which were “inspired, at least in part, by these conversations”. It also said that Nato was “built on the belief that cooperation and compromise, the nurturing of friendships and alliances, is the way forward”, adding that “even if something so simple as that message finds its way into a future story, that will be enough”, according to the organisers of the event. Alan O’Gorman, writer of the film Christy, which won best film at the 2026 Irish Film & Television Awards, called the planned meeting “outrageous” and “clearly propaganda”. “I thought it was tone deaf and crazy to present this as some sort of positive opportunity. A lot of people, myself included, have friends and family or themselves come from countries that are not in Nato, that have suffered under wars that Nato has joined and propagated,” he said. He thinks the meetings are an attempt by Nato to “get some of its messaging out there in film and TV”. “I think there’s fearmongering throughout Europe at the moment that our defences are down,” he said. “I see it in an Irish context, where there’s been a push through some of the media and government to present Nato in a positive light and align ourselves more closely with them. I think the Irish people, for the most part, don’t want anything to do with wars on foreign lands.”
Defence spending in Ireland has increased to record levels following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has received cross party support and broad approval from the public, though support for joining Nato remains low. An Ipsos poll last year found, should a united Ireland be formed, that 49% half of all voters in the Republic of Ireland are opposed to joining the alliance, with 19 per cent in favour and 22 per cent not sure. O’Gorman said other screenwriters invited to the meeting were “pretty offended that art would be used in a way that was supporting war” and felt they were being asked to “contribute towards propaganda for Nato”. Faisal A Qureshi, a screenwriter and producer who has worked in the industry for more than 20 years, applied to attend the meeting “to see what it would be like first-hand” but had to pull out over a scheduling conflict. He said the “risk for any creative who dips into this unattributable world of intelligence or military briefings is that they can get seduced into thinking they now have some secret knowledge. That there exists a world of greys where morality is stretched and human right abuses are acceptable when done for the greater good”. Qureshi questions whether a creative would sufficiently “challenge or interrogate” information passed along to them in such meetings. “They’ve just been given something that has the veneer of truth given to it by an authority that rarely deals with the public and there is a sense of privilege about getting that access,” he said.
Supporters of Nato have advocated for greater relations with the arts. The Centre for European Reform thinktank released a report earlier this year calling on governments to engage with cultural leaders, including screenwriters and film producers, to build public support for greater defence spending and to “better tell the story of why these investments in defence are needed”.
the "story" just being "copious amounts of racism and anti-Russian chauvinism"?
In 2024, eight screenwriters, including a writer and executive producer on the sitcom Friends,
were invited to Nato’s headquarters in Brussels by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, to learn about security policy. The group, which also included a writer on the long-running crime procedural Law and Order, and a producer on the comedy detective drama High Potential, met the alliance’s then-general secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, during the trip. A Nato official said: “The mentioned initiative is the fourth in a series of sessions for writers of fiction in the entertainment industry (including screenwriters, showrunners and authors). “It follows from interest expressed by members of the industry to know more about what Nato is about and how it works. These events include engagement with representatives of Nato, civil society and the thinktank community.”
A WGGB spokesperson said: “As a trade union representing screenwriters, we receive invitations from third-party organisations about events that may be of professional use or interest to our members. These interactions do not necessarily represent an endorsement of these organisations.”
if you don't endorse it maybe don't fucking go to the meeting
Seinfeld plotline where George gets invited to a Nazi party meeting "what was I supposed to do, Jerry, not go? they had free drinks and everything!"
“The invitation we passed on from Nato to our screenwriter members was to an event offering a two-way conversation where attending writers can ask their own questions, talk freely and take whatever they feel is useful from the session. Our members are free thinkers – a valuable and vital skill that they bring to their craft.” :::
The Communist Party has lost all power in India. Looks like it's over for Communism in the country.
In Kerala too?
Yeah they just lost it today.
Damn
If electoralism was their only power, they didn't have any to begin with
There were Indian Maoists who didn't believe in that and they're also on the verge of Extinction nowadays.
A major setback but as long as there are workers left to fight for it, communism will eventually prevail
eventually

As long as the proletariat exists the class struggle will continue. We've heard "this is the end of history" before.

The entire country is filled to the brim with religious fascists right now. Kerala just elected the liberals who caused that in the first place. Other states don't even bother to elect the left anymore and most of India's population is dominated by the BJP who is actively destroying leftist opposition.
Iran's Fars news agency says two missiles hit a US warship in the Strait of Hormuz
If they were actually hit and the US just pretends like this didn't happen, that would be very funny. Maybe we get one angry Trump post?
Edit;
Fars: According to the Army Public Relations, a few hours ago, United States destroyers, by turning off their radars in the Arabian Sea, intended to approach the Strait of Hormuz, but immediately after turning their radars back on, they were detected and faced a radio warning from the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran about the dangers of violating the ceasefire.
The brave soldiers of the army, after the American destroyers ignored the warning, explicitly stated in a renewed warning that any attempt to enter the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of the ceasefire and would be met with a response from the naval forces.
At this stage, following the American Zionist destroyers' disregard for the initial warning, the Navy fired warning shots of cruise missiles, rockets, and combat drones near the enemy's invading vessels to issue a warning; the responsibility and dangerous consequences of such actions will be felt by the hostile enemy.

Iran plays far more respectfully than the US ever will.
Something possibly happening.
BBC is reporting Trump announced an intention to begin escorting trapped ships/sailors out of the straits this morning for "humanitarian reasons", calling it "Project Freedom". BBC also reporting that the Iranians radioed them to turn back.
Fars is now reporting that the IRGC fired two missiles at a US warship. Reuters is reporting that Fars has reported it - BBC asking CENTCOM for comment and so on.
Either way it seems like both sides are rhetorically playing chicken daring each other to make the first move this morning.
I wonder why they didn't do it over the weekend when markets were closed like they typically do. Maybe they thought it would be such a resounding success markets would rip
seems usa claims its ships gone through the strait?

Bank Ken is, unsurprisingly, a big fan of expanding banking in Canada (the Sovereign Wealth Fund, the Defense, Security and Resilience Bank). Almost no one has successfully explained the point of this bank to the public, and every time Finance Minister Kermit Champagne tries to, it gets more confusingly meaningless, which is probably a strategic move on his part.

But Kennedy also spoke specifically about his vision for Black children. After making the false claim that "every Black kid is now just standard put on Adderall, SSRIs, benzos, which are known to induce violence" Kennedy offered what he described as a solution.
"Those kids are going to have a chance to go somewhere and get reparented and live in a community," he said.

This is giving "sixties scoop" vibes.
That is the sort of stuff I was thinking of.
The ADHD/neurodivergent "overdiagnosis" moral panic was always about inventing a scenario about meds being "dangerous", and in turn criminalising black people for existing.
Conversely, they could see ADHD and other neurological conditions as a burden on their healthcare sector, or even that they provide workers the mental health necessary to challenge their material conditions, and thus mental healthcare is a threat to the state.
Maybe both, maybe something else entirely. Either way, we're looking down a very long barrel.
Sorry, but I have to disagree. The concerns with over-prescribing of ADHD meds in particular is, in my opinion, 3-fold.
Pre-adolescents can be “hyper”. It’s part of being a kid. Lots of parents are just poorly equipped (exhausted and stressed from shitty material conditions) to handle a 7 year old bouncing off the walls.
Just because a kid does not fit neatly into the cookie cutter education system we have designed does not mean they are neurodivergent.
Young adults/college aged students frequently distribute their ADHD stimulants to their classmates so they can either cram for 16 hours straight or continue binge drinking. They then turn and seek out their own prescription.
Do plenty of people need ADHD meds to function? Yes.
Do I think part of the definition of “function” here is within the context of a capitalist society? Also, yes.
I usually am pretty skeptical of "it was always about this" explanations because such large issues are unlikely to develop just as planned, in part because there are so many parties that influence their development. Medications costing some parts of the healthcare industry more seems more likely to be the motivation here, but don't forget that there are also pharma companies making bank as a counterweight.
I think a good chunk of this is plain-old reaction: back in my day most kids weren't on any medicines, so it must be bad. Using that impulse to try and break up black families is the standard conservative playbook.
Yeah, that's a really good take, I didnt approach this dialectically.
To reanalyze my point, rather than "always" as in a premeditated plan, but mental healthcare was "always" going to drive a contradiction between the proles and their material conditions which excacerbate (even idiopathic) mental illnesses, and the moral panic produced to resist that contradiction was "always" going to progress towards ever-escalating reaction.
Oh putting black kids in concentration camp got it. Its always the same blueprint. They did this with boarding schools for the indigenous kids to genocide them.u back in the days too.
Isn't it amazing that the same system comes up with the same 'solutions' every time it encounters any 'problems'?
I can't imagine being a liberal and trying to make sense of this 'solution' for the very first time [for the thousandth time]
rather than face the collapse of capitalism through its contradiction with entropy itself, we get the bourgeoisie culling us every generation or so to make space for more sweet, sweet growth !!!!

Hezbollah publishes their fourth FPV video of the day showing a strike on some sort of mobile C2/comm system at an occupation army artillery base in Bayada.
Channel 14: Due to the threat of explosive drones: The Prime Minister is now convening an urgent security discussion. Netanyahu will convene a special security discussion tonight (Sunday) with the participation of the top brass of the defense establishment, to discuss the escalation in the use of explosive drones and ways to deal with the threat of "fiber optic drones."
you've had YEARS of the Ukraine war to discuss this! the "escalation" ALREADY HAPPENED, you just sat by and did nothing because, uh??? I guess you're so fucking racist and overconfident you just couldn't conceptualize your enemy using the incredibly sophisticated technology of, uh, A FUCKING CABLE?
These drones, connected to the operator by a thin and light cable, allow Hezbollah to carry out precise attacks without an electronic signature that can be identified or disrupted. The discussion comes against the backdrop of the understanding that this is a weapon that neutralizes the IDF's technological advantage in the field of electronic warfare.
I'm a simple man; I see BOMB READY, I upvote.
Hezb definitely had fibre optic drones since the start of al aqsa flood. I dont think they used many of them over plain old radio drones, but I'm not sure they're even that new to the Lebanese theatre?

Israel's defense ministry says it has approved plan to purchase new F-35 and F-15 fighter jets from the United States.
Channel 12: When the ministerial committee announced this morning (Sunday) the approval of the purchase of two new squadrons, one might think that the Air Force is becoming larger and stronger than ever. However, professional sources in the defense establishment make it clear that the picture is the opposite: this is a move intended primarily to preserve what exists. The IAF's veteran fighter jets are under tremendous operational wear and tear, and some are expected to be retired in the coming years. Without this purchase, Israel could fall below the "red line" - the minimum number of aircraft required to defend the country's skies and attack simultaneously in several theaters.
@CyborgMarx@hexbear.net, feel free to collect your "called it" award
The maintenance load must be enormous, 100% the US/Israelis have permanently lost more aircraft to wear and tear than Iranian air defenses
Not surprising at all. Israeli pilots were doing 3 sorties per day over Iran at the start of Epic Fury^[1]^ which is like 10,000km (~6200mi) depending on the target, flight route, and originating base. That can translate to 8-10+ flight hours daily for an F-16 - more likely latter as breaching their cruise speed of ~1000km/h (~620mph) would wear the engines more. The F-35 can cruise faster, supposedly near 1.0 Mach (1200kmh/767mph), but for how long and under what conditions when loaded with weapons? Classified 🤫
The F-35, before even considering engine and avionics maintenance, needs between 4.8 and 7.6 labour-hours per flight hour,^[2]^ F-35A is the lower value, B and C are the latter. The F-16 supposedly needs 15+ owing to their advanced age.^[3]^
Flying at higher speeds, longer sorties, and doing evasive maneuvres will stress the airframe and components much more quickly than doing a routine patrol at subsonic speeds. To top it off, you're not gonna have time to do routine maintenance when you're turning planes around to evacuate airbases or do new sorties at short notice.
That's why the US has used so many standoff weapons over precision bombs, and wants more. It can't sustain the attrition of its wünderwaffen simply flying to their targets. That's also why they sent fresh F-16s and F-35s with electronic warfare pods, because they're racking up even more hours than the other types since they're needed to run deep over unsafe airspace. Literally a single point of failure for the entire air war. Losing radars and a few AWACS will have put more strain on 'em.
TL;DR They're cooked

⭕️ UKMTO reports that an Oil Tanker was hit by unknown projectiles in the strait of Hormuz. Nothing visible on AIS, which means the tanker tried to cross the strait 'illegally', without authorization from the IRGC. Trump's project freedom first casualty lol
This incident occured 8 hours ago according to UKMTO, just a few minutes before Trump announcement (20h35 UTC). Very interesting, looks like Trump tried to gaslight everyone to get some oil tankers out of the Persian Gulf, following pressure from leaders all over the world, and failed. Iran controls the strait.
As we saw with the Oil Tanker hit in the strait of Hormuz last night, AIS transponders was turned off, likely following an order of the US military. The US Navy did the same thing in 2024 the Red Sea for the failed "Operation Prosperity Guardian", risking the life of innocent Mariners for propaganda purpose.

The dumbest of the fascist parties in Denmark has just fully imploded. They got elected with 4 MP's and are now down to 1, the leader of the party who just had a big media moment because he apparently made himself one of the highest paid party-leaders in the country. He is also notoriously had to work with, with lots of previous colleagues describing his leadershipstyle as "dictatorial". I think the translation of their party name is "The Citizens Party", with the leader's previous party being "new bourgeoisie".
Omg the fascist party leader is dictatorial? lol lmao
According to the members of the fascist party, he likes to keep things confidential. I can't keep all their scandals straight, but I seem to remember 1 of the 4 being kicked out for being openly fraudulent (apparently he is in quite a lot of debt over some mismanaged company that him and his wife ran), and another one left the party due to it's "lack of transparency" which usually just means that the fascist in charge of the party stole too much from then party treasury. I have no idea why the 3rd person left, as it happened earlier on today and I can't keep up with that clownshow while I'm at work. Also state media has a tendency to lend these cretins more legitimacy than they ever deserved, so I don't really know what happened in the party.
