chatWelcome to our Friday ritual! I want to hear about all the bullshit you had to put up with last week! This week, it was April vacation. It's like a vacation for me, but I still have to show up to work!
I took two days off at the beginning of the week and came back to 60 tickets I am still digging through (18 left). I dont even usually get 10 tickets a day. Why did I come back to 60? The floor is about to fall out of this place and it just wont give.
The place where I got my drug test like 6 weeks ago called yesterday to say that my THC levels were off the charts and they needed to call me first before telling my employer. I mean . . . I started a month ago. It seems really weird for a tox screen to take so long and also for my employer to start me without having the results. Could the lab really still share the results and could it still derail things? Anyone in a legal state know of situations where they're OK with positive tests but only up to a limit? I tested positive the last time I started working for this company but I have reason to believe I got the high score this time.

Well, had to sit through a government press release stream for Friday where the ghouls listed all the ways they will make social security worse and my work worse in the process.
Otherwise had a chill week.
While I'm learning my new position, the job duties from my old position haven't been removed from my workload yet, so I'm putting in 50% effort for both positions
At some point I'm going to have to display it in my bosses' faces how none of them have really formulated what the expectations and standards are, and that I can train people better than they can.
If I have to print out a store index, as well as an overview of the department's functionality and a list of best practices, that will be something no one at this sizable company has ever done.
Something something art of telling people to go to hell in such a way that they ask for directions.
I've told my boss he's a bumbling idiot for years and so far it's just kept getting me raises and promotions lol

Also make sure if they start hiring juniors that you get to them first. You don't want anyone thinking it's a good idea to go around rocking the boat.
After about a year at this job I hve been in the department the longest. I am not in the 2nd half of my life expectancy, but I'm the 2nd oldest on the team. They're doing the whole employee churn strategy, and the bosses are always "too busy" to figure out a way to do anything better.
I'm bored but I don't hate it, there's a little more to learn and a lot more flexing to do, before I put out applications again, because this is not a company I want a lasting association with.
This week was very bullshit free for me. Kids and Staff are on vacation. IT Staff.... not so much. This week actually cost me a couple of hundred bucks because of childcare needs... But the kid is having a blast so it's all worth it. I found a silly NatGeo book that was getting tossed from the library full of anti-communist red scare nonsense. I've been tinkering with using Charm Crush + Deepseek + a Knowledge Graph MCP server to eat through a bunch of revisionist history books on the Soviet Union in an attempt to build a large knowledge web from the books. Then use that web to re-write the historical parts of the NatGeo book from a more bottom up perspective.
AI is dumb, but I can't help but be curious about what it can, and cannot do.
