This is especially personal to be since I live near so.e of the last old growth redwood forest in the world and I am dangerously close to going on some logging crews.
It would be naughty but you could call in some fake tree spiking and pinning warnings. Tell em you used non-ferrous quartz rods or some shit so they have to be really thorough. Might alleviate some of the frustration that leaves us vulnerable to impulsively crashing out without a plan.

Not saying you (or anyone) should do any of the stuff in this book, since not only is it illegal but it's ridiculously dangerous to interfere with these operations. A guy who has done nothing more than film legal logging in Australia was beaten almost to death by either loggers or agents working for the logging company, just in the last few years.
But the book is very thorough and discusses these things and has been collected from various activists with experience defending the environment against logging, some of them solo operators who never got caught. So. It's interesting to see what they have to share about their experiences, the opportunities they didn't take and why. etc.
I was especially impressed and taken with the sections on non-metallic tree pinning and spiking. Don't neglect to warn operators anonymously if you think someone is doing this stuff. Not even shitposting you don't wanna be responsible for a bad sawmill accident.
I recommend it here, obviously, not to recommend it as a manual for doing anything. But just because it's got fun pictures and interesting descriptions of shenanigans and it is a little bit reassuring to know that people are quietly fighting back all the time.
Lmao my bio professor told us about that book while we were out doing field studies in the early 2000s. He was a cool dude and a big reason why I am a communist now.

Also seconding the recommendation of warning operators even as another poster said if you don't even know if there are spikes or not. Anything to sow doubt is good.

I suppose I should just go look for myself more thoroughly but I don't suppose you can suggest where I should learn more about this? Is the risk to the tree mostly from infection?
edit: have found much information, ~~disregard the request~~. (further edit to add that I'm actually having a hard time finding really good trustworthy information about this, there's a huge amount of info that seems very recent and the use of the term "tree killing spike" on logging blogs. Idk if you do have a reputable source it would be great.)

The blog post includes a link to the project page, which is where activity is tracked. There won't be any public hearings (big surprise, and potentially inviting a lawsuit), so the next planned output is the draft environmental impact statement in June. The final environmental impact statement is scheduled for November, at which point there would ordinarily be another round of public hearings, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's kinda funny that they're even bothering to go through the process to this degree, although there's probably some calculation about what they can get away with without getting the courts involved. @Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net you should update the OP with this info.
