There's software that adds achievements to emulated ROMs: https://retroachievements.org/
I am that niche! Me, all alone 🦄
There are literally ~~thousands~~ ~~hundreds~~ ~~dozens~~ a few of us.
Here I was thinking it would allow you to add achievements to PC games without them that have never been on Steam, alongside multi-store games.
Doesn't make a lot of sense in hindsight, but I'm an idiotic dreamer.
Does the steam_id.txt trick not work on linux?
Which trick is this? Haven't heard of that.
(On Windows) If you add a non-steam game to your library, you can have Steam still give achivements and track time in the game by adding a file with the game's Steam App ID in a text file named "Steam_appid.txt" in the folder with the executable. The only drawback is that it breaks the overlay.
Another use of it is to play official multiplayer on pirated games that use Steam's multiplayer services by using the AppID for Space War.
Niche-ception.
The setup seems straightforward. Can I use this with Heroic for GOG games without achievments? And will achievements pop up real time then when I play the game through Heroic itself?
