I think maybe me and some of the other fans of my team should get together and form some kind of group to go out and inflict violence on those people who like other teams. Hopefully this will discourage them from liking other teams, then those other teams won't have any fans and they'll cease to exist and then only the team I like will remain and they won't play any games anymore and just stand around the pitch doing nothing.

This is very logical behavior.

As someone who doesn't give two fucks about football, I once upon a time used to worry about the color of my shirts being too close to the colors of either of the main teams on my area and getting dragged into some shenanigans because of that.

Brazil used to really wild about about this. On my first few job interviews I was asked what my team was and they wouldn't take "none" as an aswer. These days I feel this "passion" has mostly died down.

If they stopped fighting about the ball all the time and worked together instead, imagine how many goals they could score! The real enemy is the referee.

I gotta be 💯 here and say I support hooligans (conditionally.) the culture is different from place to place and I'm sure there are countries where they are just roving gangs of madmen assaulting random passers-by, but from what I know of them in Northern Europe, they don't do that and actually punish any members of a crew who assaults "civilians."
My impression is that they are people that realised they like to fight and seek out other like-minded individuals. The leader of each crew will contact each other before a match and arrange everything. I saw one such text exchange once and it was hilarious, same vibe as two department managers texting each other. Basically:

  • "Hey, see you on the field after the match. Sticks allowed?"
  • "Sticks are good, nothing harder or heavier - no clubs! How many guys do you have?"
  • "We got 30"
  • "I only have 23"
  • "Tex counts as two, I'll tell six of my guys to hang back"
  • "fair 💪"

Most of these people don't fight each other over the teams. They fight each other because they like fighting. The guy who showed me the text exchange explained me that at least three of his guys don't bother showing up for the matches.

I don't personally enjoy fighting, getting punched in the mouth sucks. But I don't mind that there's people that do, and I'm honestly happy that they seek each other out instead of me.

There's a lot of issues surrounding hooliganism - It's a recruiting ground for right wing extremists, they get hurt, it harms their career prospects due to assault being on their record.
All of these issues could be solved if they were embraced rather than shunned. That could also help combat toxic atmospheres, drug abuse and so much more. We already televise brutal violence, so it mainly seems like there's some cultural or class attachment to it that we dislike.
This would also open up the possibility for support crews for other things - Imagine watching a political debate and then someone lights a Roman candle after their guy made a good point.

Then again I'm also for decriminalising drugs, which I know not everyone supports.

Edit: Related story; I was once in a bar. Guy comes up to me. Big guy, nasty look. Stares me down, asks me "you wanna fight or what?"
Now if you've ever been in the situation where a stranger approaches you and asks if you're looking for a fight, then you'll probably know that no matter what you answer you'll end up in a fight. The answer just determines what the reason will be.
I decided to hope he'd treat me lightly if I took the highroad so I said "No thanks, I'm just here for a chill night with my friends. Don't want no trouble."
The guy mulls it over, like there's something to consider? Then breaks out into a wide beaming smile and tells me it's alrighty and hope I have a good night. Then he proceeds to the next table where he asks someone else if they wanna fight. They accept and the two guys go outside and beat the shit out of eachother. Later in the evening they're sitting by the bar sharing beers.
Gayest shit I've ever experienced.

hopefully you mean the real sport

not the fake shit Americans play

Pleasantly surprised to see this hasn't turned into another sportsball struggle session

Don't take it too seriously, there is obviously no reason to support another team than the best one. Those guys only pretend to support the other guys just to annoy you and get a reaction out of you, don't play into their game.

Football matches are the purge

World Cup is coming to my city soon and I'm dreading it

The possibility of ICE and world cup crowds to intersect, what could go wrong

Which football? WHICH FOOTBALL?!?

OP said "pitch," so I assume the one that Americans call Soccer

Well, I thought OP cleared it up, but now you’ve just confused me again.

Why would Americans call a game where you pitch with your hands Soccer?

The one people form gangs to beat other fans up for

Nah American football rivalries look tame compared to some of the shit elsewhere.

Except maybe really passionate college football rivals maybe.

All the way? It really only leaves one possibility.
