HistoryTo me, the fact that the Vietnamese had to deal with occupations by the French, the Japanese, and the USA, and seem to have the most hate for the Japanese occupation, even more than the assholes who used napalm on them, speaks miles.
I've heard Vietnamese people come up with this or that "silver lining" for the French and US occupations, but I've never heard a single person say anything remotely positive about Japan's time occupying Vietnam (which if I recall correctly was also the shortest of the occupations).
(USA nuking Japan was still an atrocity and should be apologized for at a bare minimum)

Persona 5 is a game about being a rebel and being yourself even if the greater society will hate and punish you for it. The character that most embodies this, Ryuji Sakomoto, the actual stereotypical 'high school delinquent' is always shown as the least popular and sometimes outright HATED by the japanese playerbase even though i'd argue he's one of the best examples of the themes of the game?

During World War II, Imperial Japan controlled a number of other nations, including parts of modern-day China, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, New Guinea, Guam, East Timor, and Nauru
And they committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in all of those places. Not only did they kill millions of Chinese people, they did what the nazis did in Eastern Europe to the rest of Asia and Oceania.
Just take your pick: "comfort women," the Bataan Death March (one of my relatives was killed in this one), Bombing of Singapore, the Parit Song Massacre, the Laha Massacre, the Kalagon Massacre, destruction of mosques and ethnic cleansing of Muslims (Hui, Moro, Suluk, and more), and on and on. The Japanese royal family oversaw most of these atrocities while Tojo took most of the blame.
Had a roommate my freshman year of college that was from one of the more populous provinces of China (don't remember where). He told me that he was actually part Japanese as well, but he did not tell other Chinese about this because he told me it was not looked upon kindly

afaik they were preparing ships in sakhalin to send troops to hokkaido when the bombs went off. like a couple more weeks and we would have had a communist hokkaido. they occupied the kurils and sakhalin within 3 days of declaring war as well
