Chad.

The guy who played Sam in game of thrones said he would ask people, who pointed out tye similar plot hole with his character, something along the lines of "you know I don't actually live on the wall right?" I don't want to search for the clip to find the exact quote so sorry if that's too far off.

Also something along "theres living dead, giants, dragons, magic, and the only thing you find unrealistic is someone not losing weight?"

[EDIT] To downvoters, it's in quote marks, because it's a quote.

Because there is no in-fiction reason why that would be the case. Dragons aren't realistic, but not losing weight is internally inconsistent with the rules of the world as presented to us.

He was fat in the original books.

John Snow regularly gives his best buddy his extra rolls because he has a gluten allergy.

Boom, explained.

And it would be good if they showed something like that on screen. Shows Jon as a kind friend, if a little too soft.

I don't have any context to know if that works here or not, but either way, relying on headcanon to explain the primary text is a hallmark of sloppy writing.

Is this implying that everyone on those stranded-on-a-desert-island shows are just actors and they stay in hotels and live comfortably when the camera isn't on them?

I just assumed The Skipper on Giligan's Island ate a lot of coconuts.

There were actually ten people on the Minnow but The Skipper is also a cannibal.

Sadly, it was clear that The Skipper wasn't cool because he didn't eat the rich. Source: I was forced to watch this show on re-runs as a kid.

The Skipper was 60's fat, Hurley is 21st century fat.

The difference is about one entire person.

Hah, good point.

as someone who can't be bothered to watch Lost, what are some of the reasons given for him remaining fat?

Hurley was only on the island for 108 days before being rescued. As he said on the show "I'm a big guy, it's gonna be a while before I lose a few notches". 108 days isn't a massive amount of time.

In season two he did hoard some food from The Hatch for himself, but then when the 2nd food drop came he ultimately gave it all away (served as part of his character arc). There was never a 3rd drop of food in the show.

This is just a silly meme it's best not to judge the show from it. They don't "keep making up excuses".

Asking Lost to give you answers is the reason none of us talk about Lost.

The opening text image did explicitly say that the writers did come up with explanations.

He keeps finding food stashes. Finds a food pantry in a bunker (start of season 2). Then a pallet of food dropped by helicopter (mid or late season 2). Then they made it a reoccurring drop delivery even though there hadn't been reoccurring food drops the whole first season. No one found any of the drops nor saw a helicopter even though it was right by the camp/hatch. But it was apparently happening the whole time.

It still was never clear who was having the food drops made but maybe dharma initiative. Since they knew Desmond was living in the bunker and the food was supposedly for him.

Also it's a pretty good show. The last season was confusing and misunderstood.

But the rest is solid. Good acting. Interesting characters. Honestly worth watching.

I recall something about him finding a case of candy bars in the plane's wreckage, and hiding them so he could have them all to himself.

They find an abandoned station full of nonperishable food supplies and he becomes the person in charge of supply rationing.

Also I think at one point they pull the "I tried, but I just can't seem to lose the weight" card and kinda give up.

But most importantly, if he lost a ton of weight those time travel episodes would be tough to track!

He probably didn’t get paid millions for his first major gig

Maybe not the first season or two. But he was a series regular for six seasons for what at the time was one of the most popular television shows, ever. His character had unique staying power in that show.

You could say he lends that weight to the role

Fuck you, take my upvote.

But it clearly worked out for him, I mean we see him on new media all the time! What, you can't think of anything? Just Google his name!

I literally thought that was Steve from Gamers Nexus.

I mean he was part of the main cast on Hawai Five-0 for like 6 seasons too. Credited with 130 episodes on IMDb. Dude's probably loaded and only takes occasional roles for fun nowadays.

If he was smart about investing it, he probably earned enough to retire and live at a middle-class level for the rest of his life. But, he's probably not loaded. He wasn't ever one of the main stars of a show, he was always a side character. Plus, lifestyle inflation is a big problem for actors. Say he was making $400k per year on Hawaii Five-O, he probably wasn't living a modest $80k/year lifestyle and putting away 80% of his earnings.

I would bet he's still out looking for work so he can live in a house in LA with a pool up in the hills, not in a 1 bedroom apartment in the city.

He started off at 20-40k per episode and was doing 80k per episode in season 3 of Lost, possibly more in the later seasons. More than a million a year easily at that point. He was pretty important for a supporting cast member and they all made decent money.

Supposedly he also doesn't like living a flashy life with fancy stuff, his treat to himself for landing the Hawaii Five-0 gig was a custom jumpsuit, not a car or watch or house.

So that got me curious and I went and checked his insta. Not a single instance of him flexing wealth or trying to be an influencer or whatever. Seems like he wanted to be the opposite of Hurley with his money.

Now if he was a big spender, it'd be pretty easy to burn through all his money, but it looks like he's more careful than that.

That's great. I hope he's basically able to pick and choose his roles these days, and not work if there's nothing he's interested in.

Looks like it. He says he's passed on TV shows that he found uninteresting.

I think you need to do a certain amount of roles per year or whatever to stay in the actors guild.

I actually really like Bookie.

His image is immortalized in rock history

Is...is it Wolfgang Van Halen?

His name is 412 KB JPG. It's literally right there

What a soothing name, I'll name my first born in his honor

He is the only thing I remember about that show. Then again, I have never really watched it
